Think of it this way.
fishing (which has been given variety) mining and wood cutting are primary industries and therefore the bedrock of economy type games. there needs to be a balance when updating an older skill to ensure it doesnt disadvantage people who have ground away at it too greatly. I do like the idea of updating it to make it more interesting or with a greater reward - not necessarily exp (mining on members is faster with granite, thats an apt reward for membership). i always love getting to be able to do or wear something different when i level

What drives our Economy
what drives the economy? Skill capes... there used to be a desire to raise a skill to make an item you needed for something else, now its to get a cape - im currently chopping teaks and firemaking........ WHY!!!! it achieves no positive end product and helps me financially not at all (currently 95 wc, 99 really isnt going to make me that much faster for the effort) lootshare brings huge wealth into the economy as items are gained and in my understanding sold at mid price without an item being introduced necessarily into the economy, as has been stated the wealth is then ploughed into skilling items (gold ore currently 507gp!) or money sinks like construction and summoning prices rise and crash on new item or skill introduction - thats runescape often players asks me how to make money or what to train - my answer; forget the money, what do you enjoy doing and only earn cash if you need it for your favorite activity (my answer is invariably green dragons btw)

Jagex Attempting to Stop Monopolies?
i dont see the issue - jagex has identified several attempts to ruin the game for the profit of a few at the cost of the many and are doing their best within the constraints of a complex set of variables i applaud their attempt and im sure it will be adjusted as time goes by to try to ensure effectiveness. in principle i dont see the issue in limiting quantities on items which in the majority of cases would only need to be traded in low quantities stop moaning about a free market - its not a free market as several prices are fixed in the game. your using the term free market as an excuse and cover for ripping people off

Tip.It Times Presents: The Plight of the Safe Spot
this will be short as i messed up my reply and lost it last time :? congratulations on having the self belief to create an article, i look forward to you submitting more - something i have not had the imagination nor created the time to do - so respect to you i wasnt 100% certain as to the objective of the article, im sure it was more than they are disappearing. If that was made a bit stronger then maybe a lot of the flames wouldnt have arrived - some would because they just would :( . the article wasnt for me as i know about safespotting and didnt introduce any new twists, however there are no doubt hundreds of people who will see the article this week and may be compelled to explore further into new places safe in the knowledge that they may be able to take on higher creatures without getting murdered. Im currently banned - lets not go there!!!! otherwise i would go and explore a little to see if i could add any new spots which im thinking may have been the point of your article I use fubai's safespot guide in the archive of wisdom, its still pretty useful if not quite up to date - couldnt something like that have been referenced or isnt that allowed I safespot slayer tasks to train my range, it makes my training slower (grr range) especially as often you have to wait for a respawn but thats my choice. I will always leave the safespotters target when doing mellee, unless of course he starts to target mine  I think safespots were deliberately created by jagex when they made the game to help gameplay - come on they must have been; just look at some of them - however maybe the people working on the graphics dont have the same objectives, they are perhaps more concerned with visual impact. I totally agree with jagex removing safespots from areas where great wealth can be found - balanced risk vs reward keeps a stable economy

Tip.It Times Presents: RuneScape: A game for the young?
i can empathise with the authors point of view but dont fully agree with it. there have been some high level updates and looks like another this month i wasnt around for classic but have been for a few years and am an "older player" its easy to blame Jagex but dont forget that in the last few years internet access has become easier and cheaper and has opened up pandoras box to the masses. a few years ago PC's were more expensive and access was dial up (shudders) that kept a huge amount of kiddies / lazy / ignorant people playing their PS1 / watching TV. the growth of RS to a mass game also brought an awareness of social responsibility to jagex eg possibility of addiction, RSI etc that the leveling / achievement and constant clicking could cause. they have created a potential monster and have to find ways of managing cause and effect. they have to have warnings and lots of in game assistant agents otherwise they will get swamped with the rants you dont see. ie direct mails in from parents etc threatening action as xyz hadnt recieved any warning. sounds a bit incredulous but litigation does happen just as it does IRL my point of view is that the general population has changed both IRL and online and its the greater accesability of the internet to all which has lowered the social / intellectual mix of the community (let in more lazy want it nows), yes jagex has made it easier but it was still hard for a low level and i needed to level up to make it easier. i think im going off the point now.... oh well..... I noticed as you progress through RS life that lower / mid / higher levels tend to stick together and will talk to each other. the higher levels will generally not ask a dumb question as they will usually be experienced so its less risky to help them as you know it will be a one off. this of course is a generalisation and may not apply to you. you dont know when someone ignores your question that they might just have answered 3 others in the last 5 minutes and really want to get on with what they are doing / going i enjoy runescape, i enjoy the small personal achievements i set myself, i enjoy interacting with friends i have made across the globe and i enjoy helping others. i can see the scammers, the autoers and the lazy, if i have time i will report, warn, advise as i see fit (and their potential victims). theres good and bad everywhere. if theres enough good then concentrate on that. I got invited on the trawler by 2 guys 20 and 30 lvls below myself. i wasnt in the middle of something so i went, i had a great time and they are now good friends completely off topic - what i dont understand is who buys all the tons of gold IRL the autoers / gold farmers etc are making it has to be thousands of pounds to make it worthwhile to them

where to sell maple long (u)
thanks for the reply - it would make sense if i was selling in order to buy tokul for a fury but i cant sell maple long (u) in these stores - ive tried or im being really daft. i thought the gloves made it cheaper to buy rather than let you sell higher i sell a few at the 3 general stores on the island and the price goes to 32gp as you would expect so im making my way around the rest of the general stores etc on runescape :(

Tip.It Times Presents: Guthix Skiller
a good article and one that inspired me to check the forums - my take was that there are many circles in skilling and the guthix part was a nice sideline. what i was expecting to find was a lot of good suggestions around skilling such as range blues, craft hides, alch hides, use bones on alter (why i got high construction) - this is my favorite chain lots of different skills to boost and some money at the end - it also makes me rc and mine for the nats, i made my own iron knives and steels arrows which i ranged with and mined the ores to smith. i got my agility up just so i could use the pipe shortcut after a slayer assignment i will plant all my farming patches and as i go to shilo get some vials ready for herblore from ardy and shilo on my way to my slayer master. i will do herblore once i get enough herbs of one type to make getting 2nds worthwhile. incidently if im low on food its off to fish and cook again i will cut and burn willows west of fally whilst collecting nests for farming - not much of a chain here :-k had to do some firemaking as tears of guthix was going to this which i thought was a waste - let them count to something hard or expensive to do !!! the only downside of concentrating on my skills rather than standing by the mage trees or rcing all the time is that i must be the poorest lvl123 around i also enjoy getting my own stuff rather than buying it - yes easy to say for a high level - currently im killing dags to get some spined armour for my costume room and intend to go on the event tomorrow to get rock or skelly. by the way if you are going be carefull they will take 18's off you one took about 40 in 3 hits off me (full rune with oby shield and whip)
