  1. i love you for this topic it resonates with my own feelings i am 99 slayer, i do have a firecape. when i was slaying most slayers had a firecape due to its advantages - you take everyone you can get non firecape owners at this level are usually down to a dislike of jad (not inability to do) or giving up after a couple of attempts jad with todays equipment pots food etc is relatively easy, a lvl 93 slayer has made piles of money to do this (unless they bought their account perhaps) slow connections and disabilities were predominantly made up excuses to try to influence jagex without saying in truth - i cant be bothered to do this if jagex wanted more staffs they would make these campable, they would make the tasks more readily available either by increasing chance directly or indirectly by allowing more blocking for higher levels incidently i havent had an ice task yet as i blew all my points on getting 99 i absolutely love the way that jagex are linking the game more - they did it with skills and quests - why not other content
  2. views on merchanting need to be more balanced manipulation is bad - although you can make a short term less greedy profit on it. to avoid the harm dont except items it trade that are obviously merched up maybe an article on step by step how to spot a merched item now merchanting is good as it actually creates a stable price, as items fall (as they will do) it is merchanter that step in and buys up the excess thus creating stability for many items
  3. just throwing it out there manipulation is bad agreed but merchants do have a place as they buy up excess products and create a more stable price
  4. read times as soon as it came out - was very confused by avansies, disagreed with fundamentals of pvp and the attitude of prayer. started to reply and would have been 2nd post but thought - no it cant be that bad i must be tired lets not set a negative tone and quit my response. prayer is a combat skill if you have it use it, simple as that, if you have more of it than the other person, well take advantage of that, if the other person had a higher attack would they brew down? I seriously do not see an honour issue here and to imply otherwise imo is ridiculous. agreed format wars or DM's are different for obvious reasons. Im sure people will disagree with me and thats their perogative, call me a noob for my point of view if you wish, im relaxed as i know im right  avansie belief issues have been totally covered in other posts. my view on KS - if i want to keep it ill fight for my spot, i generally dont steal others unless they start on mine or are greedy and take an unfair nuber of spawns. to be fair the spots i use are usually slayer spots and slayers generally treat each other well. to be contentious i view it as different when people camp for cash, these are more fair game to me. slayers are set a task complete it and move on freeing spot for someone else this isnt the case for campers PVP effect.... so the price of dfh is effected by pvp / drops? was a dfh really that good and so many people wore it OR was it used to manipulate forum trades in rares and 3rd age. consider dfh price rises dramatically from 20m to 50m, 3 get traded for party hat plus some cash, price of dfh crashes to 20m = 90m profit on phat - repeat (yes over a lengthy period of time i agree). with PVP prices have been affected yet again by merchants rather than drops. my issue is with the values used, pvp drops will have had an impact but not hugely, the steep downward [bleep]es imo are merchants taking advantage of fear, lets see what the next 2 months does to the trends. rant at jagex - my issue with BH PVP is that the rewards do not reflect the risk - in all other aspects of the game the rewards reflect the risk / effort involved. the maximum rewards gained from each kill should be more closely tied to the value of the items the loser lost. why do people think BH PVP is great - because of the rewards. fortunately a lot of the rewards degrade or can be alched out of the game so dont crash the market - check out the price of a lot of barrows (0) items and compare to high alch -tip it item search makes this easy, wonderful tool thank you tip it. by all means have a 3 times more likely drop of a dfh - if the loser was wearing one or items of equivalent value.
  5. for me BTS was like a christmas day - full of anticipation for the coming month - however i was also relaxed to understand things happen to projects, expect the unexpected, and slippage is likely. i understand jagex's point of view but dont necessarily agree with it however ill reserve judgement until the next DD comes out and we see what it gives us
  6. one of the best did you knows i didnt know thanks Ddraiggoch06 farming has always been a pain - pick drop or if its worth something bank -ill start using allotment patches again now and my herby runs are much simpler
  7. if i can ill be there - unfortunately not the best weekend for me but ill try
  8. as has been mentioned gravestones help against rwt as you cant pick up your "rwt friends" items. equally this means your real friends cant help you if you die when playing by the rules, jagex had to make a way of you being able to get items back because you always were able to - well potentially anyway. its rare that jagex takes something away from us that we are used to benefiting from another to add to the list of places that are difficult to get back to in 5 mins is pheonix - ok yes it sounds stupid that pheonix killed me but my graphics card reset when i took pheonix on with half prayer and lost my void.....Noooooo id rather have lost cash  can you beleive it happened again same place...... i now take on pheonix with full prayer as i kill it and get dumped outside with all my stuff still \ death is still serious where it ought to be
  9. id like it to open up new lands east or west
  10. i view the quest cape as comparable with a skill cape, easier than some and harder than others. getting a skill is not necessarily just grinding away (i appreciate some are at various stages) but skills can have other dependencies to make the achievement more efficient - eg quest rewards boosting exp rates or supporting skills. for the quest cape you need reasonably high level in a multitude of skills and the same is true for efficient skilling. is the slayer cape equal to the quest cape or fletching cape in awesomeness - not in my book i rank slayer first and fletching last in this example i recognise you can buy some skills just like you can read and follow a guide blindly - but that doesnt mean the person you are demeaning has. for the majority of my fletching (to 96 then got bored and left it for 18 months until completed) I cut logs, picked flax, spun bow string and fletched - does that make my fletch cape nooby, not to me it doesnt . i did pretty much buy my cooking cape although i also managed to make an awesome profit on it so i feel i have the experience of a bought skill, several worked hard for skills and my quest cape to base my comments upon. i actually rank my 81 herblore achievement above my cooking cape as its taken me longer to get and i did more of the growing herbs & collecting seconds myself. i know you wanted a debate for and against but im personally sick of the arguement its equal, get over it and respect people rather than dis them
  11. ambitions for the year - some are easy - if jagex bring out higher achievements in a skill ill train some higher eg farm and herby 99 prayer, 90 slayer, 96 mage, 85 farm, 90 craft, 99 hunter, 99 thieve, 99 range, 91 RC, 78 agility, 90 summoning - all others at least 80 and a happy new year to you all
  12. guideline for me 70+ is good 80+ is high 90+ is very high 99 is awesome 99+ is daft unless your making cash - i dont get wanting 200m cooking exp - (looks at own hp exp and kicks himself for not doing slayer sooner) :wall: however as its a guideline not a rule theres latitude  70 could be considered high for a lower lvl who hasnt been playing long - after all with RS lvls are predominantly related to time spent. so for the original example i would have asked the lvl 3 how long they had been playing and perhaps let that influence my response, anyway i doubt i would have got in an argument over it as they were clearly proud of their achievement and should be encouraged - that said i might have if they were rude, theres always two sides after all, even if the person you are arguing with is clearly wrong
  13. thanks for the advice - it does seem that lending a gs out is a good way to get rid of junk gained from other sources otherwise its a pain not worth the effort oh well at least while typing this i got dragon legs from iron dragon slayer task \
  14. i have an AGS and am considering lending it out, all the polishing costs money you know! dumb question time so if i lend it out it seems i can make 100-150k per hour but im guessing i will have to to the majority of trades in junk, so whats the best junk to use as i assume i will have to use the balance of my / their trade limit in junk. I dont have any junk in my bank many thanks in advance
  15. i voted most of the time as there wasnt an option for eventually  i dont class always as quite the same, always to me is a dedicated slog rather than i cant stand it anymore but i will come back for more maybe a year or more later  I have acknowledged goals to myself for 5 skill capes and am currently getting 99 wc and fm with my trusty adze then ill have another go at hunter and see if this time i can last to the 90's before running away screaming so after fm and wc i will get thieve and hunter then ill release my frustration on killing thousands of creatures in slayer and get my range i find in easier to set small targets to tick off on the way to a greater 1 as you get a sense of achievement which will keep you motivated, leveling skills achievements at first are great for this unfortunately after a while on most skills (save smithing) this dwindles away i try to set goals and training methods which will help others - for example im cutting eucalyptus at the moment for wc, using my adze for fm, from the cash made i will buy maples and finish off firemaking and also buy gold ore to get 85 smithing, i will smelt the gold bars into necklaces (probably) to get 87 crafting when i can then make dorgshan bulbs and grab some more craft exp maybe up to 90. when doing my slayer ill cannon what i can to get my range finished and load up my crimson charms, head to the desert to mine granite and make granite lobsters to get mining and summoning levels (i want 85 mining but i never last long there, yay a new quest and im gone never to return) - i know that i could make money faster with other methods to spend on skills but i get a satisfaction from using one skill to directly help another rather than buy seconds (i know i will be buying gold ore but i have tried mining it frequently and i know i cant stick to it to get the amount i want  ). all these desires will take time and ill break off to change what im doing but i will come back and finish eventually - unless jagex releases a better way of achieving my goals
  16. well said troacctid i was confused about the previous posters comments regarding disparaging remarks as i would have considered the off topic comment as one - ah maybe its me
  17. apart from getting your own supplies which takes ages you will have to be smart - faster exp is mage longs or yew longs checkout prices for unstrung bows vs logs - only half the exp but usually cheaper. also check the price graph on the ge a bit of patience can save a lot - sell strung bows near the top and buy supplies near the bottom if cash is more important than fast exp make willow long (u) and use as junk - they are worth 72gp vs 18gp for log but dont string them
  18. 287 but i read the first page and last only :-w why i didnt like slayer - i never liked being told what to do and when i was a lower lvl wanted to train a specific skill or fight a specific monster and i wanted my combat stats up as fast as i could why i now like slayer and wish i had stopped training other methods at 90 not 99 - i have 17m - 19m in various mellee styles which i view as wasted exp vs lvls - im now a lvl freak arguements can be made all day about exp rates and drops - do what you enjoy doing (use the rates as a guide to make you more efficient at what you enjoy), if its not slayer fine but consider stopping training on spiders etc at about 90 and doing slayer after this lvl as 90's in combat stats own - yes 99 makes a difference but not so much for the difference in exp to get there i love slayer now with the monsters i get, the ones i have permanently banned and a mix of cash for drops and points for slayer darts - the cash made on general tasks (with sometimes a good drop for the bank) pays for cannon on others - i do hate slayer for normal range experience especially as thats one of my none 99 stats so im using cannon on slayer tasks to raise when i can, i refuse to use chins to finish off getting 99 so slayer sucked for me when i was a low lvl but i love it now im high and in hindsight i would have done it from 90 att / str / def rather than used other methods to train to 99 :wall: i guess thats my compromise post for all you none slayers - do your fast training methods to 90 but seriously consider slayer for the rest of your journey to 99 it wont get you to 99 slayer but it will get you halfway and 91 or 92 slayer is a pretty cool lvl (higher if you throw range in there too) i so wish i had, i might have started less than 90 att etc but definatley would have at 90 - hindsight would be a great gift to have
  19. update - am now cutting eucalyptus - i know i said i was staying to 98 fm but i couldnt stand it will try and average out stats more to get a bit more accuracy but heres the first cut wc lvl 97 fm lvl 97 using beaver for the majority of time and inferno adze wc exp per hour 49.7k = 301 logs but fm exp per hour 18.7k so 92 logs burnt therefore 209 banked @400 ea = 83.6k gp the adze is burning 30% of the logs so i need to run more checks as this seems a high %, if you look at exp % its about 37% eg for every 100wc exp i get 37fm in summary per hour wc exp 49.7k fm exp 18.7k cash 83.6k dont think my averages will change much, if they do ill post again or will post when i get 98 wc as the beaver will make me invisible lvl 100 rather than 99 the wc exp is slightly worse (about 2-4k) than when i was cutting and burning teaks and the fm is way worse (down 42k). as im only making about 84k cash i should probably stay at teaks and get to 99 sooner but lazy woodcutting suits me better - wont bore you with why. getting slight variances with the adze contributing to fm, averaging 34.6% for the experience and 28% for the number of logs burnt - so your close saying adze burns about 25% of the logs, i guess the point to make is you get a nice lump of additional exp (nearly 35%) as the fm exp reward is higher than wc (sorry im stating the obvious but sometimes you have to). this test is with eucalyptus
  20. Troacctid - great guide ive found it really useful a huge thank you  been at teaks since 92 wc and 92 fm using adze and burning my teaks - one great thing about ape atol and the adze is you dont continually hear the thud thud of the adze when your a monkey just logs burning and the tree falling! the adze noise is very realistic (if youve ever heard one) but extremely irritating im averaging about 52k wc per hour and 65k fm per hour - approximate figures but ive measured a few times, dont flame me if im a few k out (im not going to count my logs) :| currently 96 wc and 97 fm staying here till 98 fm which will be just over 97 wc then ill adze my way to 99 fm and wc at eucalyptus with a beaver pretty much using all your top tips =D> something to consider - obviously not the detail as its a wc guide as im not making any cash i make a trip to the GE at the end of each day to merchant, sell seeds collected (20k and above, rest are dropped inc nests as i need space for fm) and top up my popularity in the kingdom (75k per day adds up) then tele back next day (after adjusting any merchanting), doesnt take too long and makes some cash to help keep me happy. id advise merchanting if you know what your doing as you have lots of time to look at price charts at teaks waiting to hear the tree fall!
  21. xxxgod as someone who has mined at these rocks you have my empathy. there are many rocks there that people can use but about 3 spots which are really effective for powermining, its rude when people come to a spot you are already at and use the rocks your mining whilst others are available :shame: (its not like woodcutting or fishing where you can share with little impact so dont flame the guy) i understand your rant at jagex but these things happen, good intentions in one area will spoil results in another. the impact on your specific area is down to a lack of manners of unfortunately a fair proportion of people in the game which is also reflected in life. before you flame a guy try to understand the point, I may be wrong but it wasnt really about selling granite but peoples lack of consideration and rudeness keeping the post you wanted closed alive  flame away........ :ohnoes: (it will be water off a ducks back because i know im right)
  22. first i had to check the posted date to make sure it wasnt april 1 would have been better if it had been can i congratulate you on an excellent thread, a fantastic spoof, which was well thought out special congratulations for making it sufficiently convincing so as to get repeated posts thus keeping it alive - myself included for contributing to this
  23. i appreciate your right to disagree and i wasnt implying skill capes are the "only" factor that drive the economy but they have had a large impact on it. maybe i should have been clearer why wouldn't you want a 3rd or 4th cape, im not suggesting skill capes because people want a trimmed cape with its bonuses but because they want capes for the recognition of having that cape (in the same way you did getting 99 pre capes - capes are visible way of displaying your achievement - equally (sadly) there is an implication if you dont wear one). when you multiply the numbers of people striving for these capes then that does have a significant impact on the raw materials of creating the cape - why are yews so much? maybe because people are cutting willows, and whys that? mainly for fast exp for a WC cape. please dont take an extreme and use it dismiss my suggestion it is clear you have a higher intellect than that there is clearly a race for no1 status in your example which is likely to continue - check the highscores for skills that stop around 13m - yes some will go past but the majority do not thank you for correcting me on lootshare, it wasnt an area i have researched. But are you certain items are sold at mid, what if no one buys that day, do they automatically stay in GE at an adjusting mid price forever? I dont know so and havent seen enough data to make an informed assumption that the items are sold. new items or skills do impact and drive the economy in a new direction? how can they not? oak logs after construction? seconds after summoning? even normal logs after balloons. im not saying they solely drive the economy but they will impact on it, rares have traditionally dropped at these times to release cash (either for skillers or merchanters). I thought santa hats rose earlier this year because the santa suit won the christmas release vote, merchanters spotted the opportunity to make some cash and did so. as you are well aware the economy if multi faceted and I was merely suggesting areas which have had a reasonably large impact upon it, collectively many events drive the economy and some major ones will impact the direction - a couple of which were what i was seeking to highlight
