Monitor screen flickering. PROBLEM SOLVED (kinda)
It's an LCD Clare, 60Hz is the maximum :) . Anyways I found out it's because of the interference. I'm going to get a DVI to HDMI adapter which should solve the problem (just played a bunch of games on our 40" TV @ 1080i with an HDMI cable without flickering (while it was plugged in). So problem solved. I'll chime in back if for some reason the DVI to HDMI adapter doesn't work as should.

Monitor screen flickering. PROBLEM SOLVED (kinda)
Ok, update. I found out that the monitor only flickers when the laptop is plugged in. When it is running off of battery power, it stops. I assume this means that the monitor is getting some sort of interference with the power from the laptop, but I don't know what to try to stop it. Any ideas?

Overclocking
Stay clear of programs to help overclock. The only ones you'd want to use are some for Video card overclocking. With your PC and PSU I really would not bother to overclock. A pentium 4 is fairly bottlenecked already (not even a dual core) so extra speed really wouldn't matter. And the video card, well, I don't think you would get a very noticable increase from OCing it.

Find me a Hobby...
It's true, you never really look at stuff until you take photography seriously. Graphic design really changes the way you look at things. When I watch a computer animated movie, I don't watch the movie I watch the animation. When people read text I look at the font. It's a great way of getting on people's nerves. Hell yeah it is. :P Anyways, OP, you should try and hang around the Gallery some more. Get GIMP (or arrrrrr photoshop arrrrrr) and start with some basic photo manipulations. Photography and digital art go hand in hand well.

The White Crayon
Nah see, white crayons work best with black paper and black crayons work best with white paper! That means we should all get along. Although, honestly, yellow crayons just kind of suck on any paper. :-$

java.exe
Is your system running fine or are you just worried. Runescape can take a lot out of your CPU because of java. I don't think that is entirely abnormal.

Buying a new computer.. tell me what you think!
That's why I stopped helping a while ago. Before this topic he was going to buy a desktop prebuilt FYI. Then he was going to build a dell (because he was worried about the warranty) and now he will build it himself? Quinton, just get the damn cheapest one. You aren't going to notice a 20Mhz Core clock difference!

Depends. Still if you're doing typography work or pixels you would rather a .png than a .jpg, even at 100% quality.

The official World of Warcraft thread.
Yeah except that someone can just [bleep] DKP, skipping smaller loot upgrades, and then spend all of those points on a big item down the road. So effectively they can be a useless player and just show up and get the good loot. I don't see why people don't need to go for anything other than a roll system and a slight loot council. I mean, roll for the gear and then the guild leaders/officers will make sure that that gear will be useful for those who want it. And maybe it's just with guilds you guys have been in, but when I raided (and we ran with only /rolls) people were very conscientious of if another player needed that upgrade badly (and it was a side upgrade for them) they would pass. Maybe I was spoiled when I raided. I just don't like DKP though. The way I see it, if a person helps with that run then they should be entitled to getting a shot at gear that run.

Monitor screen flickering. PROBLEM SOLVED (kinda)
It's at 60Hz, and I've tried 59/60/61. And, of course, it can not go any higher than 61Hz. Was the first thing I checked. Perhaps consult a local computer shop/expert, I'm sure they can tell you what seems to be the problem, and if they know exactly, can fix the problem for a small fee of money. It's not a compatability with the make of the monitor, because the LG has the same exact problem. I really don't think they will know much more. Plus, computer shops charge a lot of money. I'm just looking for ideas so I can troubleshoot it myself.

Life is short, my friends.
Considering life is the only chance I'd get I would rather use all I can get of it. Like reb said, life is the longest thing that will ever happen to you.

Monitor screen flickering. PROBLEM SOLVED (kinda)
Ok, now we are getting somewhere. I think it has to do with the resolution or something. I just tried my brothers 22" LG monitor, and it does the same thing. However the 17" non widescreen monitor did NOT do anything. If I change the resolution on either 22" it won't do a thing either... So for clarification, this is what the deal is: LAPTOP + 17" external: Fine LAPTOP + 22" ACER: Flicker LAPTOP + 22" LG: Flicker Desktop + 22" LG: Fine Desktop + 22" ACER: Fine Freaking weird. I'm trying to find out if there is any compatibility issues and I just can't find any so far. Anyone have any idea what could be the cause of this?

adds that lag up the game...
Why no-one reads the rules? I've submitted 6 Advert Complaints: 4 for an advertisement of a travelling company, which kept (almost literally) killing the game every 15 seconds. This advert has been removed. 2 for an advertisement of Ifolor company, about making your digital photos into real photos. Keeps lagging the game all the time, even on low detail. This has not yet been removed. What annoys me most is that to 5 out of these 6 complaints, I have received an automatic response. Last one looked handwritten, though.. Made me a bit more happy. : Why did you bump up over a two year old thread?

Monitor screen flickering. PROBLEM SOLVED (kinda)
I'll try the drivers. It's flickering like a CRT. Also it should note I think it is some sort of driver issue, because it worked fine on another PC. edit: for the monitor thing, do I just have to right click > Install profile or is there something more to it?

- Monitor screen flickering. PROBLEM SOLVED (kinda)
EDIT: Problem is solved. Going to get a DVI to HDMI adapter and use the HDMI port on my laptop instead of the VGA. edit: Updated with laptop name. Hey everyone. I just recently got my self a new laptop and, until today, I've just been running off of the laptop's screen. Today I went to best buy and got myself a VGA cable so I could use my 22" ACER (AL223W) monitor as a main screen. The problem I'm having is that the monitor is flickering. I have it running at the highest possible refresh rate for it (60Hz). My laptops specs are as following: Gateway FX P-7805U 9800M GTS 1GB (176.15 Drivers) Intel Core2duo 2.24ghz 4GB DDR3 Memory 17" 1920x1200 screen and of course, my monitor: ACER AL223W 22" Widescreen I have already tried another set of drivers (Had NVIDIA's new notebook beta drivers, and just reverted to see if it helped). I've checked on another monitor to see if it was a problem, and did not have any screen flickering issues there. The laptop's own screen as well is perfect, no screen flickering problems. So what could be the cause of this? I really want to use my larger monitor. [edit] So for clarification, this is what the deal is: LAPTOP + 17" external: Fine LAPTOP + 22" ACER: Flicker LAPTOP + 22" LG: Flicker Desktop + 22" LG: Fine Desktop + 22" ACER: Fine- What's your Family Guy moment?
American Dad (the last season especially) is a hell of a lot funnier than the last season of Family guy. Both are still funny shows, but American Dad really had a lot of laugh out loud moments.- Games -> Movies?
While it could be cool I would have to say no. The reason why Half Life is such an amazing game and such an amazing act of story telling is due to the fact that it is all happening to YOU. (Well, gordon.. but in video games you take the persona of that person. And since gordon doesn't talk it makes it even easier to add your own input.) If Half Life were to be made a movie it really wouldn't work out. We wouldn't get all those creepy moments with the Gman just looking at you from a window and then walking off. You wouldn't get the same kind of response. Plus, the first Half Life can be a confusing game. Much like LOST it does not tell you what is going on, and a lot of times the player is up in the air on what is really going on outside of black mesa. In fact, that's really a major story telling aspect of the game. In Half life less about the story is really more. So I don't think it would work. I don't even think I could see a gordon freeman who talks. For the most part the only thing holywood would be able to do is make it into some sort of half assed action flick, and at worse they would try and inject their own story which would be guesswork at best. You just can't do it.
