Ye Olde Hegemony
Do you really think I will attract new rats to my ships? If I end up sending them to an affected country the sailors will be ill too. Remember it spread through the mediteranian, there's far more time of travelling along the coast of Africa. Also I stated a fact, though events may happen that change the end. Either way, I'm better of than you, at worst I'll end like you, just with better trade.

Just for the record, I am the one to do the most approporiate thing here, only small islands benefit from closed ports during the plague. I however ensure not only to keep my people calm, but to use this in order to achieve better trade through trading with rich nations that are so far away (with the exception of south Africa where the plague will be avoided) that any symptoms of the plague will begin showing long before the ships get home. The sailors will of course not head home when ill in fear of exposing their families and friends to it.

Ok then, I'll trade with south Africa then proceed to Asia once the plague aproaches it, if Asia is not finished yet by then I go for the Phillipines and Malaysia, and Japan if it was unafected.

Thing is, closing your ports will cause a panic which will spread, this also ensure that when you are contaminated you won't send ships which causes it elsewhere, and as the only nation with an open port and a natural barrier on the other side I will benefit greatly from this. No one enters my port except my people and those coming over land will cripple and die before scaling the Atlas mountains. Are the refugees infected? Zirid arbalestiers stop them at the border and will keep them away until further notice, if any of them try to enter they will be shot, if they proove to be infected and to have come in contact with the arbalestiers the arbalestiers are to kill both them and themselves.

That made me realize that it was Sweden, not another neighboring country. As you've noticed many people here have leaders from random countries.

The Zirids keep their ports open and starts trade with Persia (or Iran or whetever it is called at this time), India, China and Japan through boats passing by cape of good hope. New budget soon?

Richard turns to the crowd and speeks; "You see this? This is what we should do; fight, kill, but not against eachothers and not to wait for a reason! Many of you are but powerless, but I shall form this place, you and the very way people react when they see us, but only if you let me! I will do my best to conceil you first, to give living beings no reason to go here! But to do this I will need more power, I might need some of you to travel with me! The rest of you should prepare, create a temple for the power source! But before I take my leave... I must rest."
