The year is 2160, and once, world peace had finally become a reality, but then in 2134 North Korea set its eyes for the sky. Setting up a deal with China where it gains access to Chinese soil and engineers in exchange for offering future lands, it started a space program with the colonization of Mars in. This spurted a second Space Race; NATO, with the addition of Japan, against North Korea and China, for military power in space. Your vessel, the Icarus is the result of this, it is the first vessel ever created that is intended to be capable of staying spaceborne indefinitely without being locked in orbit. And you are its crew for the maiden flight. Your goal is to secure Mars for colonization by NATO.
The Icarus is so far only equipped with a single pair of slow-firing railguns, and a few small laser turrets, unsuitable to take care of anything apart from missiles and smaller meteorites. Other than that it houses an AI known as the Central Intelligence Unit, or CIU, and its holding bay is fitted with the machinery needed to produce the components for whatever you may need to make yourselves. To get the materials you need however, you will have to mine them, for this the only option you have as of yet are rebreather suits, which can sustain you for up to 24 hours in the vacuum of space before they need recharging, and handheld plasma drills that utilize a combination of vibration and heat to mine through ice and rock. You also have at your disposal two F-88 Lockheed Martin Starfighters, rocket-fighters capable of holding up to 8 missiles and 2 bombs in the internal bay, they also have mounted, forward-facing machineguns. These are capable of high-speed maneuvering in space, they are VTOL and have parking clamps to enable them to safely remain parked on moving objects.
Military personnel excel at combat and piloting small vehicles. Medics excel at first aid and are the only ones capable of surgery. Engineers excel at constructing and reading sensors. Scientists excel at programming and communicating with AIs. Research works by either doing a puzzle (if I can come up with one), waiting an amount of time, or by explaining how the technology works without breaking physics/biology. Military personnel may only research combat equipment. Engineers may only research transportation and robotics. Medics may only research pharmaceutics and medical equipment, methods and implants/augmentations. Scientists may research anything. Joint research reduces time, especially for situations such as where an Engineer and a Medic cooperate on bionic body-parts. Two of the same class reduces by a quarter, one of the intended class and one Scientist reduces by a third, and two of different related classes or two Scientists reduces by half. Stacks exponentially per person added, not linearly.
Rolls are done by [Difficulty]-[Level]*2=[Min Roll on a d100]. Experience is given according to ([Difficulty]-[Level]*2)/10. 20xp = 1 level.
Name: Nationality: Must be from either Japan or a NATO member. Class: Skills:

Starts empty
Items:

Starts empty
Please keep your own character sheet up to date in a post on the first page and avoid posting more than once until it seems everyone that has the intention of joining has done so. Pretty sure Canadians use the term french fries, not sure about Australians though.
-
The Back Room
No, we eat both fries and chips with our hands. Retech, only Brits call fries chips, every one else calls them something that involves the word fry in some form, such as here we call them pommes frites, which doesn't actually mean anything in Norwegian as it's just stolen and derived from the French description pommes de terre frites which means fried apple of the earth. Funnily enough, Frenchmen call it frites françaises, literally French fries.

The Back Room
Oh, believe me, it was thoroughly enjoyed, but it would have been hard to do so while biding my time given how hungry I was.

The Back Room
Just ate a medium-raw steak with my bare hands in under a minute, I believe I am now a man.

Not a fan of anime either, but I do like Fairy Tail. Very little there is as exagerated as is typical for anime, and the little that is is justified or unavoidable if you want both a moving plot and realism (see near-unbeatable main character; sure it isn't exactly too probable, but it's better than having him/her suck every other battle they're in and then kick ass in the next (such as Ash in Pokémon)).

Crossroads
Yeah, [bleep] Dark Heresy, if we switch system, I'm out!

Going to the hospital is not a big deal, I've been there twice, once with a broken leg, and once with a concussion. If you think it is, then you have to go outside more often.

Not my dog, he's just... there. He doesn't do anything, he just lies under the coffee table for most of the day.

You are mistaking me, trying to do anything with such a system makes me want to wreak havoc on the real world.
-
Crossroads
You already know what I have against systems; trying to use them simply makes me want to wreck havoc upon humanity, tearing apart everything and everyone in my way.

Wee! I can fly. Also, apparently the forest is incredibly tall, to the point were retrieving a limb stuck on a branch would take hours even with the use of nature magic. Also above it there's a dense fog (possibly clouds?).- The Back Room
Actually, there are countless Latin words for love, but most of them only pertain to a certain aspect to it, and not a type in its own. Those I listed are the ones we've all know of, even if some of you chose not to believe in them. And no, you missed "their presence also gives you comfort", the defining part of true love, the way I put it is not so noticeable because it's an understatement for the sake of technical accuracy, a more sensual and appropriately charged approach to saying it would be "their mere presence is intoxicating to you".- The Back Room
There are four kinds of love, familial love, platonic love, Shakespearean (aka. true) love and sexual attraction. Familial love = The kind of love you have for your family, you want what's best for them, but don't necessarily want to actually be near them. Platonic love = The kind of love you have for your friends, you want what's best for them and you want to spend time with and trust them. Shakespearean love = What is called true love (not 'one true love'), you want what's best for them and you want to spend time with and trust them, their presence also gives you comfort and you could never stand to see them get hurt in any way. Sexual attraction = Do I really need to explain this one? You want to [bleep] them. What is called love in popular culture is a mix between platonic love and sexual attraction. And no, I have no idea whether Shakespearean love is actually a term, but we all know Romeo and Juliet, hence the name.- The Back Room
I suppose the real question is, if I said 'Quit being a Matherard' would you/other people be offended, even though I just made it up? Mather, being your name, which indicates that it is a personality trait. Retard, meaning to slowing down or to hinder progress or otherwise delay. Obviously I would never call you that because it is offensive and people who are not you may take offense to it, even if you don't personally. It is merely included to demonstate how your 'Its not really a real insult' argument is flawed. Half-wit would be another term I could use, which is English Slang, similar to your 'Internet Term', yet may still cause offence. I would strongly recommend you look at the rules a little more often, since the purpose of them is not to stop you from insulting people, but is to stop other people from being insulted BY you. (And so much other jargon which is rubbish, yet, by using these forums we agree to abide by.) In fact I would not, because I can take being called something that I am, which is socially retarded. And no, half-wit also means low intelligence, douchenozzle is just a more mature form of meanie. Real men treat women to what they deserve, which is respect, kindness and faithfulness. And no, there's no angst. I have accepted the fact that hey, even if I were to get a girlfriend now, in half a year I'm moving all the way up to the polar circle for a while, so it would be kind of wasted. I'm chill with how things are, I just can't take someone shitting on what we nice guys are trying to establish.- The Back Room
Wow, since when was the term douchenozzle enough to get a post removed? It's not even a proper insult, it's just an internet term for someone who in some way hurts or brings difficulty to others through acting selfishly.- The Back Room
Nah, I was perfectly capable of sitting still for eight hours a day during my last work placement. Also I can literally sleep all day if I'm bored (I think my record is going to sleep on my couch after school, only to wake up at midnight, brush my teeth and go to bed) or I will subconsciously start snapping a beat or singing if I'm by myself. Remember, you can't break a mind that's already broken.- The Back Room
Actually I've got the whole hierarchic filled up, all of them are beyond what I need them to be, apart from cognitive and self-actualization, which are impossible to actually fill, though they are as full as they should be. I'm at perfect balance with myself and as such I am in the perfect position to go beyond my instinctual needs and instead focus on more spiritual needs, such as my need to keep raising my karma and realize true love.- The Back Room
And I like being unique, means I have the chance to make a difference, be a thinker instead of a drone. Enjoy your instinctual needs, as I very well enjoy my personal, existential ones.- The Back Room
Really you are talking about two different needs there. The first 'Need to serve somone' which is stage 1 The second 'Need of hugs', which is stage 3, recieving acceptance/trust/whatever you want to classify hugs as. The need I'm speaking of isn't the basic need to be of assistance, I've already god that base desire covered. And I don't want acceptance or trust either, if I wanted those, I could just get them from wherever the [bleep] I wanted, I have all the traits I need for that. What I need is the good ol' fashion concept of ´true love´. No, not a feeling of "here I belong" or "this is right", just true [bleep]ing nirvana, I know, I've been there before a few times, during traditional pair dances for reasons you probably can guess. I am really at a loss here. Your argument goes 'No I do not need the things that I need, I already have them. What I need is what I haven't got, but I have had it before, but it wasn't what I needed, but at the time it was, because I thought it was, but now I need the thing that was what it was but isn't that which I already had because what I already had wasn't real, so, in summery, I need what I don't know exists.' Really, I think this demonstrates stage 2. You have an extreme fear of actually fitting into a catagory, and so intentionally obstruct the catagory system by use of semantics. Noe, what I'm saying is "I do not need what I already have. And I know that's not what I am defining. I had what I am defining, which is something I've always known I needed."- The Back Room

Nah, I've already got that. It refers to familial love, not romantic love. - Crossroads
