  1. Well that just took the wind out of somebody's sails. Good luck with whatever it is, hope it works out in the end.
  2. It helps to have some experience in bringing up kids before lecturing that someone is bad for keeping their kid in line. :shame: The same thing holds true then for those who are saying it's right. Do you mean to say that NONE of us are in any position to pass judgement? B-b-b-but what will we discuss now?! :ohnoes: What it means is that the people who've had to discipline children are the ones who probably have more experience and will know what to do (been in that situation, know if what they did worked or not). At least it's much better than saying, "I think what he did was wrong but I have no better solution." You know, back-seat drivers and Monday morning quarterbacks are the best.
  3. Spread awareness... then market products around this. I'm thinking (RED) all over again. http://adage.com/article/news/costly-red-campaign-reaps-meager-18-million/115287/ Yeah! Let's all buy over priced items that will donate a percentage (like a tenth of a percentage) to AIDS or something, make ourselves feel good about it. I think it's probably one of the more under-handed things corporations do, but the only way it's possible are through bleeding heart causes like this one.
  4. Children (non-adults, under 18) by law cannot own property. It doesn't matter who payed for the laptop, if it was a gift, or even if somehow she built it out of sand herself. Legally, her parents own everything she has.
  5. The F2P worlds are filled with bots again. Seems that'll be the final straw, looking at how decimated it was before.
  6. His parenting attempts haven't worked, so he's done something radically different in hopes of getting results. When your kid is out of control, tough love works.
  7. Guy shoots his own laptop. Doesn't matter the reason, he's perfectly legal.
  8. When I was about 15 years old, I was a bit obsessed with my IQ, looking for as many tests and any and every way I could validate myself. Later I came to realize that's just a number, and it really meant nothing to anyone. About that same time, I started making friends with people that were sharper than me, and to hear a few of them brag about themselves made me realize what I dipshit I'd been.
  9. ...and a Bronze Crossbow! Subscribe now, or miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime chance to get your very own Bronze Crossbow! I was offered an Addy Crossbow... I think I'm going to ignore this new "content".
  10. Could just as easily be complaining about JaGEx going back on their word, or hypocrisy.
  11. Yeah, but I don't want to get 87 mining... 86 was hard enough.
  12. Bleh, I'm at 1264 right now, ~90kxp until 99 strength. I think I want to make that my 1300th level, and I don't want to up my combat level until I get 99 strength. *wonders what to grind*
  13. Video ads while hopping worlds (and you're locked out of the game anyway) don't bother me. In fact, I'd love it if Jamflex got more money from my game play. I'd just wish they'd advertise their game elsewhere, get more noobs in F2P.
  14. Where are those graphs located at? *Ahem* http://open.tip.it/high-score-stats
  15. Would apply, but I'm just not that active in the RS side of things... We'll see how busy I am in a year though. Good luck all.
  16. I agree, but the alternative to the death penalty is not "let them kill again," it's keeping them in prison until they don't have a pulse.
  17. The death penalty is cruel, and should never be used as a form of punishment.
  18. One sec, lemme see.... "I know how to raise your kids better than you." Got it. From your next sentence, and about a dozen other posts, that's where I got it. Cool story. Anyhow, have fun debating yourself.
  19. You don't think parents should teach their children about their beliefs. I think that makes you arrogant ("I know what's better for your kid than you do"). You also think all religion everywhere is detrimental to the world, and that if everyone accepted your "enlightened" view, the world would be a better place. Quite frankly, you're intolerant, and a bigot. But whatever, I don't care if you want to be closed minded. I'm not going to waste my time arguing with a brick wall.
  20. Means your position is not only intolerant, but also arrogant.
  21. If it doesn't harm others or infringe on other peoples rights, and its not harming you in a way that is going to cost other people money, I generally don't see the harm. Practicing religion goes beyond the miracles and parables of the purported Jesus of Nazareth. It extends to who the adherents should trust, which groups to distrust and ostracize, which political alignment adherents should adopt, which laws should be passed, which parts of the educational curriculum to alter or remove, etc. It's these actions, influenced primarily by religious teachings, that are harmful to not only those outside the clique of religious following, but to themselves too. It may not be realised, but it limits their own happiness and thus it becomes a compromise of religiously derived happiness with happiness from wellbeing and general satisfaction. It does infringe on other people's rights, in many cases. It infringes privacy rights to knock on doors to proselytize those who don't want to. It infringes educational rights to remove sciences from the school curriculum. It infringes our rights when public prayers are held. I see problems even by replacing genuine generosity with generosity in fear of a God, to do so only to appease an 'almighty' being. If practicing religion were like believing in Santa, leprechauns or any other frivolous fairy-tale, then I'd have little contempt for it. The startling truth is, it's weaved into almost every aspect of society where there's no escape from it, and its harmful to not only individuals, but society in a multitude of ways. It's morally impermissible to knowingly allow this to continue, yet it does. Why? tldr; Skeptic knows better for parents and their children than they do.
  22. I gave each of my younger sisters boxes of chocolates. I'll probably clean my room today.
  23. Brainwashing implies they've already formed an opinion about something, and you're forcibly changing it.
  24. What are you, high? Did you even read his post? His point was that we force certain beliefs and practices on our children, because we believe they're for the best. Religion is no different. What would you do if your child decided he didn't want to learn English? Would you tell him it was okay, and that he didn't have to? I doubt it. Teaching someone to read a language that will help you every day of your life is not on the same level as making them learn about your religion. Should I ever have kids, I don't care what language they can read. As long as they understand some form of spoken language. I'd be irritated that I couldn't text them, or that they would have massive hurdles to overcome in society, but it's not like I would even consider forcing them to read in any particular language. Besides, my dad can't even check his messages on his phone or use a computer by himself. So is teaching a child about evolution indoctrination? How about teaching them about Plato, Adam Smith, Art Laffer, Karl Marx's ideas? What about human development and sexuality? Or the political process... is taking your kid to an OWS rally indoctrination? What about a Tea party event? The US Constitution and the Bill of Rights? Can we even touch the second amendment? What about global warming? Environmentalism? Is that indoctrination? Hell, it's all education. It'll help them in real life, right? Why is one subject taboo and another not?
