  1. No, because even their political commentary and coverage skews left. That is to say that given the easy opportunity to be unbiased, they won't be.
  2. What if it isn't a big story because the media loves China? I feel like that's more likely. What? Sarcasm I do believe, he was pointing out that China's not exactly a government known for releasing facts to the press for worldwide scrutiny. I'm not being sarcastic, there is a left wing bias in the media. In some people's eyes, China can do no wrong because they want socialism/communism/something other than capitalism. And the whole Chinese censorship probably plays a role too - I'm surprised the reporter even got to interview the toy shop owner, let alone cross the borders.

  4. Not all of us have played with every F2Per with 69 or higher dungeoneering.
  5. The printer my high school owns costs about $3 per cubic inch of material used, and has a resolution of a hundredth of an inch. Considering a model can go from your computer screen to a tangible object in under a few hours (compared to sending it away to a machine shop to be fabricated) I don't think it costs that much.
  6. You can make your own for ~$520. http://reprap.org/wiki/Mendel My high school purchased one with the funds from Project Lead The Way. I think they paid ~$30,000 for it. 3d printers aren't that new, they've been around since 1986 (Stereolithograph machines). Most big manufacturing firms have one or more. Purdue University has four that I know of in their first year engineering building; I wouldn't be surprised if they had more.
  7. I don't think government workers should be allowed to strike. Their wages and benefits may be less than the private sector, but the tradeoff is the stability they get from the government (which, up until recently is why I think government bonds should pay less than other bonds - theoretically they're more stable). But what do I know, I'm a right-wing right-to-work nut job.
  8. I think they said in the video that there are 68.5 million unoccupied apartments... figure a conservative 2 people per apartment and that's approaching 10% of their population...
  9. Well, at least you're using your laptop. China isn't using its buildings. Because as long as there is hypocrisy, there can be no crimes. If you watched the video, one of the reasons its the "fastest growing" is because of these ghost cities. China is producing for the sake of producing.
  10. Detroit is the exact opposite problem - Detroit grew because populations moved there, and after its hay-day populations are moving out. And, instead of building up the city (like China is doing), they're flattening it and turning it into farmland.
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=widrX8EQdu8&feature=player_embedded I don't know how to spell their names
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPILhiTJv7E [hide=images] Biggest point here is the lack of cars or pedestrians. [/hide] Long video, I know. Some reading materials instead: http://seekingalpha.com/article/271265-the-phantom-growth-of-china-s-ghost-cities http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1339536/Ghost-towns-China-Satellite-images-cities-lying-completely-deserted.html http://www.businessinsider.com/china-ghost-city-english-town-2011-6 ________ I'm surprised there isn't a topic on this. I don't even know what to make of it, other than only in a communist country can an entire city be built with no one to use it.
  13. I'll see your friends spam and raise you a ge spam.
