  1. Come again? The threadstarter said the following: "This time I made sure both protect from Magic and Melee were on." Assuming that this is true, I couldn't understand how the threadstarter could have died to the demon since it only attacks with melee and magic. I just checked the kbase and it states that it is not possible to use both prayers at the same time (I had never tried personally) so that explains a lot.
  2. If I remember right, when I fought him, I kept my distance with protect from magic on and ranged him to death. A lot of people suggest that you run far away from the demon, let the gnomes wear him down to almost nothing, and then run in at the end to finish him off (I have never tried this method personally). I have no idea how you managed to die with both mage and melee prayer on. Ditch the lobsters for sharks. EDIT: I see that my post is now redundant. :)

Wow, the rares market is rebounding. Easters had dropped all the way down into the 6 millions not too long ago with santas at 20 million or less. I've been watching santa and easter egg prices fairly closely for nearly a year now and this is how I see things: Jagex has been introducing a lot of things into the game lately that cost a lot of money. People have been selling their rares to pay for stuff like skill capes (power-leveling), third age armour, dark bows, visages, etc. I think that this is the reason that santa and easter prices had been on a steady decline. Recently, I think that easter and santa prices reached a point where they became irresistible and people have started to buy again. As demand grows, the prices will rise. People will see the rising prices and want to get in on the "easy money" and they will continue to buy and prices will continue to rise. At some point (could be today, could be a year from now), we'll hit a peak and prices will drop. The short time investors will sell sell sell and the prices will start to drop. How far will they drop? No idea. All of this said, you bought your easter at a price nearly as low as I've seen it in quite some time, so you'll probably end up doing well whether you keep it as a short term or a long term investment. Just my (very humble and lowly) opinion. EDIT: PS - I almost forgot.. Beware of the the "god caves" update that is impending. I'm guessing that some more 3rd age stuff will be introduced into the game with it and rares will take a hit as a result.
  4. ??!??!?!?! usually pple will buy only 1, or 2 to maintain the range bonus. I heard of this thing but how does it really work? And yea you should just collect hides and bury bones to get the money back for your bows. The crystal bow switching technique is described here. I apologize in advance if it is not ok to link to other sites.
  5. You can buy a blue skirt and hat at the clothing store in Varrock for 2 coins each and the blue wizards at the wizard tower south of draynor drop blue robes. You can be stylin f2p-style for a grand total of 4 coins. If you are ultra-lazy, offering 5k for the entire set at a bank should do the trick. Trimmed robes are an entirely different story.
  6. While you are waiting for someone to start listing monsters, here's an option. Buy watermelon seeds using the RS forums. You can probably get away with paying 2k per seed. If you have no money, then do something to earn the money (kill monsters for items and money).
  7. I know that you asked for input on only certain items, but I'm going to tell you about my alch item of choice, magic longbows. I buy the following items at the following prices: Nats: 280-290ea. The cheaper the better. Bowstrings: 150ea. There is no reason to pay more than this. Magic logs: 1100ea. I buy at this price on busy worlds. You generally don't get huge amounts per buy, but it's not that bad. Once I have several k of each item, I trade my supplies for yew longs to people who are working towards 99 fletch. Post an add to the forums and you'll get a response in decent time. Magic longs alch for 1536 ea so if I bought at the cheapest prices listed above, my cost is 1530 and I profit 6 per bow. If I buy nats at 290ea (much easier to do than 280ea), the I profit 1 per bow. This method involves only buying and trading, and then straight to alching. No time is spent making anything and no skills are required other than 55 magic. If you are going to burn out on anything, it will be all of the alching that you will end up doing. If you want to profit more, then buy flax for 50 ea and spin your own bowstrings. I don't do yew longs because the price of yew logs is too high relative to the alch value of yew longbows (in my opinion). Honestly, I feel like I'm hurting myself by giving this info away.
  8. Someone else asked the same question not too long ago, here's a link to the thread: link
  9. I would guess that you'd get plenty of takers if you offered to trade your gold ore for gold bars (2 bars for every ore). You can barely give gold bars away while ore is very much in demand. Edit: If I were you, I'd try to get 3 bars for each gold ore. You can always ask 2 per if you don't get any takers, but don't short yourself when you're getting rid of that ore. The pure ess for reg ess trade would probably be a lot more difficult since non-members can't accept the pure ess and most members who have reg ess have it for a reason (they are crafting lesser runes so pure would be a waste). Edit: Overall, it's probably quicker and more lucrative to sell your items and then use the cash to buy what you really want.
  10. You can buy natures for 280ea right now if you are patient and use the RS forums. You can buy bs for 150ea right now without too much of a problem. Magic logs can be purchased for 1100ea, but you have to work at it a little as magic logs aren't nearly as common as yew logs. There are plenty of people willing to trade magic longbows for supplies. Magic longs alch for 1536ea so if you buy your supplies at the prices listed above and then trade your supplies for magic longs and then alch them, you will make a 6 gp profit per bow. I am doing exactly this right now in so my numbers are realistic. If you would rather do this routine with yew longs, yew longs alch for 768ea so 768-(280+150)=338. This means that you need to buy your yew logs for 338ea or less in order to not lose money. I'm not sure how easy it is to purchase yew logs at this price right now, but I plan on trying it out soon. 14k more alchs to go for me before I hit 80 magic. :)
  11. I stole from men until I could steal from the cake stall in Ardougne. I stole from the cake stall until I could steal from the silk stall. I stole from the silk stall (dropping all silk as I stole it) until I could steal from the master farmer in Draynor. I stole from the master farmer until I hit level 41. ..and that I where I am at right now. I will either continue to steal from the master farmer or I will try pyramid plunder.
  12. Every once in a while while I am fighting chaos druids in the edge dungeon, I'll see a mage pop in and absolutely own some poor sod by casting charge and then whaling on them with god spells. I'm low level, so I'm never victimized, but this does happen. You should use magic to defeat the FC demon, not melee. I believe there's an obstacle you can hide behind in his room.
  13. Buy a bunch of duel rings. Load up with ess, telly to al kharid, run north to the fire altar and craft, telly to castlewars, bank, and then repeat. This is ridiculously fast rc experience and duel rings aren't that expensive.
  14. I don't understand what you meant when you said this, "in short alch money making ones". Anyhow. To get from 30 magic to 55: I accomplished this by casting the highest teleport that I could cast over and over. This is very quick, but costs around 1 million in laws. If you don't have that much money, cast firestrike or fail curse over and over. This route will take a while. To get from 21 fletch to 70 fletch: Make the highest longbow that you can until you reach willow longs and then continue making those until you are level 70. Do not string these bows, sell them to a shop unstrung (if you want to bother). You will lose money this way of course, but when you hit 70 fletch and 55 magic, you can make money while you level magic so it's basically "the promised land". Some people level fletch by making arrows. This will be much slower than the method I just described, but you might be able to do it without losing money. To get from 5 rc to 44: Craft the highest rune that you can until you can craft fire runes. When you can craft fires, buy a bunch of duel rings. Load up with ess, telly to al kharid, run north to the fire altar and craft, telly to castlewars, bank, and then repeat. This is ridiculously fast rc experience and duel rings aren't that expensive. I'm not sure about other ways to level rc, I'm too lazy to bother with anything slower. 55 magic, 70 fletch, and 44 runecraft. Now you're ready to craft nats using the abyss, make your own few longs, and then alch them, nothing like quickly leveling three (even more if you chop your own wood and spin your own flax) skills while making tons of cash.
  15. You can do animal magnitism(or w\e the quest is called) to get ava's accumalator so it auto picks up about 75% of your arrows I wish. The problem with that quest is that it requires level 31 prayer.
  16. I'm sort of in the same boat. I'm currently 50 range with the same goal of getting to 70 as quickly as possible without spending gobs of cash. So far, I've found that firing iron arrows at the hobgoblins on the island near the crafting guild is very, very quick. You lose your arrows and don't get any drops, but there isn't much competition there and you can keep the arrows flying nonstop. At all of the other usual places, there is a lot of competition. Giants, demons, ogres, etc. I also find that I end up wasting a lot of time walking around picking up arrows and drops. I buy my irons at 20ea, I guess I would use bronze if I could get them for 10ea, but 15ea seems much more common so I just go with iron. Next time I'm on, I'll keep track of how many arrows I use in an hour and how much experience I gain in that same period and I'll give you a rough guess at the cost per experience (the guess will be high as I'll do more damage per arrow as I gain levels) along with experience earned per hour. edit: Someone just mentioned the tip.it ranged calculator. I plugged my numbers into it and this is what I got: You need to kill 5,480 29 HP Monsters to gain 635,627 XP for level 70 Ranged If I figure 10 arrows per hobgoblin, it will take me roughly 55k iron arrows to get level 70 which will cost me about 1.1 million at 20ea. I think that my guesses are very conservative so my end cost will probably be less than that. tip.it ranged calculator
  17. This is pretty much what I'm doing except that I did cows with bronze arrows up to 40. It took me 1k bronze arrows (picking up) and about 80 steel arrows that I had lying around to get level 40. I had a lot of fun doing hobgoblins last night. I bought 9k iron arrows and unloaded about 3k of them to get me from 40 range to 45 (maybe 46 I forget) in very short order. Whenever a goblin would walk into range, I'd switch to him so that he'd freeze rather than walk around. After doing this for a bit, there would be a big 'ol line of them just waiting to be slaughtered. Some meeler was walking around on the island picking up the drops from my kills as well as my arrows (he even very nicely returned about 800 of them!). This was hard for me to do at first, I'm normally a penny pincher and have to pick up every arrow and drop, but once I finally let go, it was great fun and very fast experience. The arrows were flying non-stop.
