  1. There are different ways to merchant and there are different kinds of merchants. There is select few who are at the very top. Those select few deal with many lower level merchants who in turn deal with everybody else. Its like a pyramid. Those at the top dont come in direct contact wiht buyers and sellers and thuys have no need to spend hours in w2 or on forums. I am for example always on world 103 and alergic to world 2 :) I dont care about this merchant hating, people always fear and hate what they dont understand and can never do :) I just want to point out again that skilling or skilling with $ is night and day difference.
  2. Please use this link to go directly to page 16 from which point the discussion is resumed. Now that GE has been out for a while it would be intresting to see what people think compared to what they thought prior to release. Once again, please proceed directly to page 16 in order to resume the discussion and disregard 16 pages of spam in between, thanks :) http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=716 ... &start=300 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The first thread I made about grand exchange turned into a flame war unfortunately. Please, try to keep this thread civilized, nobody cares about your opinion of my 24 burger king hats. What I earn and what I do with it should not concern you in the slightest eh? Anyways, here is my projected outcome of what will happen when the grand exchange is released. Once again, I will do this post in parts. #1: The flood As stated by jagex, this update will link all the servers and all the players into one grand exchange. Now, imagine, all those hard working gatherers suddenly have the ability to freely sell at their own prices. Not only that, but their target buying audience is 140x bigger now - all the servers combined. All these happy gatherers all rush to exchange at the same time, to put up all the goods they have collected at their own prices and sell them directly to skillers. Seems all good right? Wrong. As the first wave of goods hits the exchange at those high prices the human nature will take over. Anybody with any hint of intelligence will quickly realise that if they put it up at the same or higher price as everybody else they have virtualy 0 chance of selling their supplys, considering 1000's of other players are in there doing the same thing. #2: The collapsing stage The next logical step in trying to sell your goods just a bit cheaper than everybody else. But once again, lets not forget that all this is happening on the very large scale. Assuming that there is more than one intelligent person in this game most of the people will want to sell their supplys quick and thus will all try to undercut each other. I anticipate same thing happening with armor, weapons, treassure trail items, and just about everything. When the market is flooded the only logical outcome is the collapse of prices. #3: The broken backbone The last stage of the collapse is the collapse of the rare market, the backbone of the economy. All those merchants holding on to their hats, when they see how low the prices on everything are dropping will anturaly want to buy it all out and anticipate the prices to go up. Or simply buy it out and save it for skilling. However, where does one get the cash necessary for such purchases? Thats where rares come in. In hopes of buying things out and reselling for extreme profit later on or simply to use people will begin unloading their rares, which ofcourse will suffer from the very same price flood and in turn collapse. #4: The conclusion I honestly cant say how it will turn out and this is just my guess of what will happen. But if things do come to this you can expect very large price decrease on everything. Eventualy, it will even out, but the way I see it the best thing one can do is go into this update with lots of cash in order to prepare to buy out all those tradegoods and rares for low prices as drooling masses undercut each other. #5: The monopoly Lastly, I see people talking about monopolizing certain aspects of the grand exchange. Let me give you a good example. Lets say 10 wealthiest players int his game all get together and dicide to take control of the grand exchange. With coordinate effort, these said 10 people can all begin buying out a particular item, for arguments sake lets say a santa hat, with x-mas around the corner. Now, over the period of next months all these merchants can publically buy out all the santa hats that go up for sale and just setting them aside. As people catch on and notice this they will start charging higher prices. Less and less people will sell and more and more people will want them. Prices go up. Now, as chrismas approaches they will begin putting up those santa hats back for sale. Having bout out all the hats that have gone up for sale for quite some time they have created a big "ARTIFICIAL" demand for them. As they put up these santa hats for the prices double of what they paid for, all those people who have no idea will foolishly begin buying them, expecting to make a profit since the prices are going up at quite high rate. By the time merchants unload their hats and everybody catches on the only thing that will happen is the prices will collapse and become lower than what they were prior to this monopolization. This has been done in the past with the use of forums and coordinated efforts of many merchants, grand exchange will simply make it much easier to do. A lot of people will end up losing all their $ over this. Oh well, just my thoughts, please refrain from flaming in this thread.
  3. Ill answer this in parts #1. You make an assumpetion about how I make my $. You make an assumption that I stand in 1 spot and scan forums. Neither of this is true. When I play I spend my time skilling. I am no longer at the level where I look for deals, deals come to me while I focus on skills. #2. Different people consider different things as fun. What may be fun for one person (runecrafting) is so boring to me, that I rather have my skin peeled. You cant generalize fun #3. Who said that I need that level 120's attentnion? Trust me, I dont, its just funny how quickly people change their attitudes when they find out somebody is very rich, but I think that has to do with the fact that the average age of the runescape player is rather low. #4. Lastly, once again I want to point out at all the people foaming at the mouth and downtalking merchants. He was calling them burgerking hats and thats perfectly fine to insult what you will never have. But think of it this way, some people play to have 99 in a skill, others to have all the cabage in the world, well, I play to have everything at 99 and do so without any hard work. Ill give you an example, I got to 75 farming very quickly and having spent next to no cash on all my seeds.
  4. Since I'm not a braggart like yourself, I never talk about what I own or what I could buy. And I refuse to answer when people ask me. Therefore, you have absolutely no way of knowing what I could or could not afford to buy. Right? It fits well in the pattern of the greed-obsessed merchant, however, that you immediately attempt to place yourself as being somehow superior because you assume I couldn't afford to buy a silly hat. It is this exact attitude that causes overzealous merchants and other insecure ego-driven twits to be despised. ~q Now that requires a talent, using a lot of big words in one sentance yet the overall meaning is some eluding insult. Actauly, your type is one of the most common, however, in your case only difference being the ability to use some of the less commonly used wordds to create a rather pathetic attempt at an insult. Im calling your bluff, lets see some proof behind your claims of me not knowing?
  5. This statement is false, the inflation rate on the party hat prices is 200x the price annual growth. So in the year it takes you to obtain the $ necessary to purchase 1 the price will have gone up 200x.
  6. [/b] LoL - those are some big words and you are entitled to your opinion. However, try to actualy get 1 burger king hat before you start downtalking to see how easy or hard it is to obtain and then you can make all the comments you want. You can call it obessing with wealth or you can call it achievement. I mean bottom line is, this game is all about $, everything translates into $ and $ in turn translates into what you wear. Put on full rune, and lvl 120 wont respond to you, put on full 3rd age with blue phat and lvl 120's will beg from you. Sad reality of this game is that people only respect wealth
  7. Ok, let me clarify this for you so that you can see it from different point of view. I was one of the people who merchanted a lot, infact, it was the only thing I did. Now you may say "but thats so boring" - is it realy? It depends on your play style. For me, making 10 million in a matter of hours isnt boring, its fun. I love merchanting, its just so essential to being successful. Before you disagree, I will give you a good example. Making a lot of $ and then using it for skills will get you further than working hard on skills to get $.
  8. HeHe its good to be back, except for the part where no amount of wealth seems to help with the 60-75 quests that I am missing and trying to do. Its so much easier when you do all the quests as they come out and dont have to make up on all the quests, sort of like f2p -> p2p that would be the same thing.
  9. i havent played for 2-3 years, but im playign again now
  10. There are still accounts with like 500 duped hats on them, since pink (now purple) used to be the most expensive party hat. Oh and I am 100% legit :)
  11. The only mates that are afraid to reveal their names are those from the second dupe, the big pink partyhat dupe. Yea, this account was started in rsc
  12. yea i know, it sucks a lot of people quit and got banned :(
  13. I told you the truth about everything, didnt really bother keeping it a secret. Im not judging you at all, back then you looked down on unleash and i for what and how we did it, but its kinda hyppocritical dont you think? Since you pretty much did something much worst. I dont claim to be THE richest, just richest out of all the people I know that still play and are not banned, and trust me, I know a lot of people. Between you, unleash, and others who quit and got banned way too many sets went poof. And lastly, you have to give me credit regardless of how, look at the end result. If I had not quit when I did, together with unleash we would have eventualy bought out most of the sets I bet, with each phat push the amount that we were making was unreal.
  14. heh compared to what it was yea its only 4 phat sets:) btw, if anyone wants to sell me stuff for skills im always buying.
  15. Guys, just one request. Please, dont pm em in game asking me how I made $ or to see or other things of that nature. I get harrassed on daily basis as is :(
  16. Thanks guys, its good to be back. And merchanting is what drives me in thsi game and then I use that $ for skills, although im extremely lazy :) ps. if anyoen wnats to sell me stuff for skills im all yours
  17. As promised, here is the picture of my current bank. As stated earlier, out of all those rares only thing I have left is 4 party hat sets :( Enjoy and let me know what you think :) [hide=page 1] [/hide] [hide=page 2] [/hide] [hide=page 3] [/hide] [hide=page 4] [/hide] [hide=page 5] [/hide] [hide=page 6] [/hide] [hide=page 7] [/hide] [hide=page 8] [/hide] And I am lvl 89 combat, incase anyone is wondering :)
  18. You misunderstood me slightly. What I meant was back when I played r2 wasnt rich at all. He didnt get rich till after I quit. Also, I dont think there is that many blues, maybe 50 is too low of an estimate, but I gurantee you there isnt that many left.
  19. actualy, I know most merchants, and I asked around a lot, everyone semes to speak of these mysterous people, but has anyone actualy seen one? its a myth. There is about 50 or so blues left for example, and not that many of others. Too many people quit and got banned with them. I clearely stated that there may be some stakers out there who have more rares than I do, I just havent seen or heard of one. And as for bank, wait till you see my supplies :)
  20. when you can earn 1 burger king hat then you have a right to comment on them, but down talking something you will never have in a million years, despite wanting it or not is rather childish.
  21. I just thought about it, and I agree afterall, back in WoW the "auction house" was the only possible way of merchanting. Somehow who isnt very bright and doenst know the prices will still sell cheap. Only difference now will be all the mercahnts constantly scanning the exchange to be the first to snag something at a silly price.
  22. 1 correction. It was duke freedom the richest, then unleash1, and then m3 rd. r2 wasnt rich back then he was still coming up. Unleash1 and I were working together and at some point he gave me all his rares to showboat, thats how much we trusted each other. Duke, who was all high and mighty about us manipulating the market (unleash and i) ended up being banned for rl trading, which I find extremely ironic. But I was 3rd richest back then and as far as I know the richest now (not counting stakers that I might not know about).
  23. because perhaps being a stake requires pre-involvement. where merchanting doesnt. sure, it might somtimes but not always. and even if it always does. theirs not nearly enough risk involved to make mils a day. oh so, you bought a rare for 20m? and it goes down 1 mil WOW such risk. if your not stupid, you tend to make your $ back with merchanting for each buy/sell session. honestly, how often do merchants go negative on trades? once a week? if that? now, if i goto ajavascript:void(0); Add image to post godwars dungeon i risk my life and items i probably bought or killed something like that boss for and i could lose it? and i might not end up with the possiblity of $ making in a day a merchant did? does not seem like risk is worth the reward. hence merchanting cowardice. Your random rambling makes little sence. My point is if staking was taken out stakers would be upset, if wilderness was taken out pkers would be upset. Staking and pking are ways of making $, they chose that, I chose merchanting. We werent talking about risk factor, but rather perference.
