Millions of people play the lottery each week here in the UK but it isn't messing up the economy. This hasn't created mass unemployment because of everybody having wealth. The same is going to be true in Runescape. The chances of these items is so incredibly low that it is very unlikely they will have any sort of effect on the economy. Your one set of D claws won't be an excess of the item on the market if you attain them once in 5 months for example. Even over thousands of players, it shouldn't have much effect. The rarity is proven by the lack of posts on here of the rare and valuable items. So far I've seen only two pictures of these items, neither actually acquired by this community. It does not make sense to put one of the best items in the game in a divine available to players on a lucky roll. BAD ANALOGY DANZ. OMG so illogical. You see, if there is a 50 million euro/ound/dollar prize, there is probably 75-100m being spent. Some of that money goes to pay to run the lottery etc. Some goes into the business's/gov'ts bank. Terrible analogy. here its just FREE GOLD/items MAGICALLY appearing for nothing. Need I go on? I hope not because im off to play a game of league. @Lactose, its germane to the conversation.

Your points seem to contradict each other. If you can't trade any of the items worth over 100k, and they cannot be attained through death by others, where exactly is the "vast" effect on the economy? Especially considering how incredibly rare they seem to be. Simple, youdon't have to buy the item then. Also, even if its super rare, tens/hundreds of THOUSANDS of people rolling once or twice a day? Lets think about that... Incredibly bad idea IMO. Bringing pure luck into getting gear/cash? NTY. I prefer to get my gear via skill. (hence why I play WoW and not RS.)

Mid level players have access to everything that was once high level, just as in every/most MMO. /thread.

Awesome article TS_Stormrage. I always look forward to what you write, as I am always assured of a well written piece, even if I don't always agree with the premise. I would like to point out that I don't think the compassion between WWII and an online MMO holds any real validity, as one could simply say then that anytime one takes longer to give up then another it links to WWII, the point is at least gotten across. I am simply pointing out I don't believe the link is valid. This week's article on the bot nuke was interesting. Although, as a pre-law major, I don't believe Jagex had any legal grounds to sue iBot (Or at least none under the access portion of the DMCA) I can agree that making a strong stance against bots and botters was needed. On the the "added value to farming" bit. UGG just no. There is still an inextricable link between material prices and farming. As mats go up in value, adding to their value to farm, so does the cost to train skills. There is no real benefit. Its roughly a zero sum gain. Look at a comparison in WoW. When ore was 40g/stack I could sell gems for 150g/ea and profit. Now that ore is 100g+ a stack, I have to sell gems for 320g+ to make less of a profit. Levering costs more even whilst farming provides more income. Now onto the manipulation part, RS really needs to decide how to handle this. An excellent IRL friend of mine is a anti-trust lawyer, and its always interesting listening to stories about what qualifies as a monopoly, and the like. Clear guidelines need to be set, or else Jagex needs to decide to take NO interference in the market. Either way would have interesting outcomes. When the "middle class" players decide to hold onto their goods until the price is right, its ultmatly irrelevant. The rich can afford to wait. The middle class/ poor can not. The middle class, IMHO, will never control the market. On to the 2nd article. REALLY? Most of the content in the game is accessible to the mid level player. Maybe they can't solo GWD, but they can do it. Maybe they can't solo DKS, but they can duo. Maybe they can't slay abbey demons, but they can camp for black masks or snap seeds like I used too. All in the all, the articles premise was simply demonstrably false. There is a well known dearth of true, end game content. Such is not the case with low and mid level players. If nothing else, in most games and almost all MMOs, the true gameplay is at max level. The problem is not what the author states it as. The author is simply wrong when he says "This problem does not involve merely a lack of content for these mid-level players, but specifically a failure to create new content for them. " No. The problem is most of the mid level content is out of date. Temple trecking, temple repair, shade slaying, low level slayer (sub 80) crafting professions, monster hunting (KBD, KQ, Chaos ele, etc) and the list goes on and on. This is even more true, however, for higher levels. You see, mid levels have end game content to look forward too. Once a high level players get past a point, however, it is no longer feasible to continue to engage in certain activities unless they find it "fun". Its simply not efficient, and I know many people enjoy doing efficient things to progress themselves faster. TO summerize, Jagex needs to fix mid level rewards to make them more useful and profitable, not add more that will quickly fall by the wayside. I am with ALG in this.

Then how can you say somebody 'plays PKscape' and not runescape solely because they PK? If you've ever done clan wars, do you play clanwarscape and not runescape? If you level fletching do you play fletchingscape and not runescape? No. I can correct you by using just the words in your post. Somebody plays PKScape because they soley PK. Eh, but I don't feel right leaving it like that. If you only do the things necessary to PK, you are still playing PKScape. Thats a dumb statement. Its wrong. They PK and they play Runescape. Its not PKscape, anymore then its slayerscape if you just slay.

Do remember that someone's opinion is exactly that, their opinion, and it does not necessitate the presence of evidence for one to hold such opinions. I've been reading your replies, and Thus obviously isn't too interested in talking so why waste your time responding to his posts. Simples. Because holding an opinion without a basis for that opinion, or when there is evidence to the contrary is asinine and preposterous? That should go without saying. @Tripsis @Rainy Day if you think rules are being broken, give reps, delete posts, do whatever you normally do. If not, the discussion can continue however it will, within the rules. Its not your job to moderate discussion already within the rules.

Excellent suggestion. Any change you'll take all the other whingers with you too? I think Quyneax will burst a blood vessel at this rate (in as efficient a manner as possible of course). I quit 14 months ago.

Good points in the article ALG, but I would have liked some thoughts on how it could be fixed. Better options for Jagex IMO would be to cause increased armor to increase damage reduction by a flat %, instead of any type of soaking. 75 magic armor = 20% reduced magic damage, while 100 =25%. Although perhaps diminishing returns would be needed. Or make it so certain monsters have a type of stat drain, or smite, more damage= lower stats/less prayer. Or so that armor passively increases strength/magic/range depending on weapon or armor (That'd be a really major change). So many options. The roll chance model of dodge, and the ability to negate/heal damage so easily are huge flaws in RS combat.

Offensive language quoted from Twitter feed?
Language is inherently neutral, and unoffensive. Its the meaning attached to words, and how they are used that make a word offensive. I mean, literally, shit means poop. But it's deemed offensive so some people are offended. In other news, why does anyone give a crap if "offensive" language was quoted?

What makes you think you should be allowed to get one? I should be allowed to get one because I play the game and train my skills. I have just as much right to get a max cape as any other player in this game that doesn't bot (bots obviously don't deserve any skill related capes they get). Just because I don't enjoy one skill out of all of them and wish to train it in the most efficient way I shouldn't be allowed to get a cape? I fail to see the logic in that. That's a failed logical argument. You actually have no more right then any other player, and if you don't like a skill tough luck. Then you don't get a max cape. I dont like all my Uni classes, but I still have to take them to graduate.

Its never going to be impressive again, for several reasons. 1.) The game has been out for too long, players will eventually reach max just for playing. 2.) Too many people are maxed already. Its not that impressive just because its not unique anymore 3.) Skills, even without effigies, are mostly faster now. Way easier to max out things like mining, etc. I don't understand how its still not an impressive achievement. Currently on hiscores there are 1421 players at 2496. I'll call it 1500 for people who are f2p, and soon to be comp cape. Now there's 790k ranked members. We will say 800k members. (1500/800,000) * 100 = 0.1875%. How is something that only .2% of members achieved not impressive? Now if we're doing max cape, not counting 120dg however I don't see it as max. There should be around 3-5k players with access to max cape. (4000/800,000) * 100 = 0.5% Considering Runescape has been out 10 years and only .5% of players have achieved all 99s. I still see it as impressive as it was from pre-ge. Its no where near as impressive as it was. Look at it this way, less then 1% of the WoW raider base has killed Sinestra, a boss from 2 tiers ago. Its still hard. But killing it now is no were near as impressive as it was back with worse gear when it was newer. Same for maxed cape. Maxed cape is hard because of the amount of time needed to get it. But maxing after 3 or 5 years is not as impressive as maxing after 1 or 2, see? Its still rare, just not as rare.

Ya if I still played I'd have NO reason to slay now, unless I suddenly wanted 20m slayer xp or something. I can make more in an evening of DKS then I could in a month of slayer, and crapping effigies? I'd pass.

Why? You make claims with no basis for your statement. The basis being RC and maybe slayer and agility can be trained as fast or faster by collecting Effigies. Nice try, but ultimately illogical. You may "think" that it goes against game design to train a skill with effigies, but you can neither prove nor give evidence to support your claim. As such, your claim that they should be roughly 2.5 times as rare (from 90 minutes to 4 hours) to slow down bonus XP rate is baseless. I make no such claims, to read the mind of the devs, and as such my stance, the skills should be designed better (An opinion, rather then a stance based on flawed reasoning and assumptions) is, even though its simply an opinion, more valid, from a logical standpoint. Without Effigies no one would be complaining about skill exp rates being low in the first place. An effigy shouldnt beat a skill in exp and time but that is what happened and JAGEX had enough of it i suppose. Remember, Skills came before Effigies... Easier for them to nerf effigies than rework a few skills majorly, either way they would both be gamebreaking and this way was probably easier - we all know JAGEX like the easy way. Again, you're not supporting your initial claim at all, just spouting a lot of claims that don't link at all, or clash with my counter argument. For one, why, all of a sudden, POOF Jagex magically has enough of it? Is that true? Maybe. Can you prove it or give evidence for it? No. And people always complained about low XP in RC etc before effigies...

Dungeoneering is stupid as well, we should nerf that. Way too powerful weapons. Make it so you get 20% less xp for each chaotic you have? Slayer is honestly really stupid, could do with a nerf, you can kill those creatures way too easily with fsh boost. Maybe 20% less combat xp on task? I mean, just because you think it's stupid, is not a reason to spoil it for others. What? They are the worst comparisons ive ever seen. I disagree with miracle's first post, but he is right here. They are bad comparisons. Maybe if using a chaotic gave you fishing XP it would work, but it doesn't so they don't link.

Come play wow. There is actual endgame there. And leveling is fun :P But srsly effigies were implemented stupidly, but they shouldn't have been nerfed like this.

The whole idea of effigies was stupid TBH. Yes, I LOVED Them. But making it so they give a flat XP rate based on level was asinine. Whose going to use it on a fast skill like attack over something like RC? There are so many better ways to do this. It could have been a boost to xp, say you gain 30% more XP for 15/25/30/60 minutes after you opened an effigy, in a certain stat, up to the amount of XP they currently give. (So you now get 20k for opening one and chosing RC, you get a max of 20k bonus XP if you RC.) Or something similar.
