Finally home! I can take a shower again! I really hate that limbo between being in Omaha at college, and being home in Kearney. Spent two says sleeping on couches in Lincoln, which besides being weird because I don't know all the people whose couch I'm sleeping on, I don't sleep well on couches and I don't like to eat when I'm traveling. But now I'm home for three weeks, and I don't have to talk to people unless I want to, and I don't have to work unless I want to, and I can essentially do whatever the hell I want. So good.

Today...
Friend came and picked me up from Omaha, and I have to crash at her boyfriend's place tonight after sleeping on her couch yesterday (and getting her in trouble with her RA). Don't have anything to do until I leave for Kearney tomorrow. I don't know the people in this house either. I kinda wish I had had my mom come get me; it would have made my life so much easier. I wish there was an easier way to get home all the time. :/

We're finally making headway! Today, I forgot to write my name on my final for my programming class, and instead of automatically failing me for the small error, she just asked me to fix it and I moved on with my life! [bleep]ing hell. I have to have this teacher again next semester too, because she's the only one open for this class I have to take. You found it! Halo lost that avatar after TIF switched over to profile pictures, and he couldn't find it. It was extremely sad. and yeah he was banned

How old is this student? I'm guessing he's still pre-high school based on how it was at my dojo, so he's still fairly young. If that's the case he probably just needs some time to mature, if he wants to be in karate at all. Leave him at green belt, keep trying to teach him, and when he's ready to move on, he'll figure it out.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Everyone says this, about every site, every time. And in a few days they forget, and repeat the process the next time the layout changes. That's not true. I stopped complaining a while ago, but I still prefer both the youtube layout a couple times ago (before the layout that just changed) and the Facebook wall. I also really miss the way things looked on TIF back when it was a php board or whatever it was, though I recognize that the new system has some feature the other lacked.

I doubt you'll have a teacher as stupid about it as mine. My roommate took the same class I did, but with a different teacher, and he managed to convince his teacher to take programs that went beyond scope and not downgrade him. Very excitingly, it looks like I'm taking another class with the same teacher. I might have to redo my whole schedule so I can get someone else.

40%? Wow. Seems like universities are so out of touch with the reality of programming for a living. It made the program not run, but still, I agree. 20% would have been acceptable, something like that, but auto-failing for a second time because I went "beyond the scope of the assignment" is stupid and frustrating.

Society and Nudity
I'm thinking the reason you think that is because of the social norms you've been raised with :P Why does there have to be a reason to show nudity? It's just nudity. It's not a big deal. In any media, if the writing is well done, anything you show has to have a reason. It's for the same reason you don't show characters going to the bathroom; if it's not important, don't show it. I can think of situations where nudity can be nonsexual and have a reason - I'm particularly reminded of Maude's opening scene in Big Lebowski, which established her character but wasn't sexual - but in most cases, there's no advantage to showing a character nude over showing them clothed.

Update: Got the test back today. When she went over the question, she wrote essentially the same code I did, but where I used the variable c, she used the variable r, and vice versa. I lost half a point on that, and had to spend the next 10 minutes arguing to try and get it back, and I still have to go into her office at some point to actually get the half point if she decides to give it to me. It's fun because I don't know where her office is, nor when her office hours are. At least that class is done for good. I really hope the next level is better.

Reveal Confessions, Secrets & Regrets...
I remember when I wanted to get up at 6:00 in the morning to watch the Beyblade anime and my dad wouldn't let me. I got really angry at him for a while after that.

Went to a concert tonight under the impression that it was going to be free, a percussion ensemble, and worth extra credit. Only one of those things was true; it was free. It was a band called the Penrose Stairs. They played five songs over the course of an hour and a half, all of them loud, heavy psychedelic rock. It was literally the worst thing I've done/gone to since coming to college. My ears won't stop ringing (though I expected that), and I've got a headache. Why do people enjoy concerts like this? I can't even imagine being part of a mosh pit along with that. Nothing about that situation seems appealing. Edit: After looking at the email again, apparently the concert was yesterday. I must have read it on Thursday and assumed it meant today, because it just says "tomorrow," but it was sent Wednesday at 12:30 in the morning. Great.

Why does it matter which way you visualize it? A 2D array is an array of arrays. Each dimension of the array holds the one that comes after it. It's sequential. I find the whole row/column thing quite clumsy. By just thinking about it as arrays holding arrays holding arrays ad infinitum, it makes it very easy to conceptually grasp higher dimensional arrays (as in anything with 4 or more dimensions) that can't be physically modeled nicely in 3D space. Essentially, I see arrays as flow charts rather than tables. I know, right? And, I mean, I'll argue that on Tuesday, but it won't matter, because the teacher's a [bleep] and won't listen. I know how to do double arrays just fine, I can work with them in any situation I need, and really, you can arbitrarily decide which part of the array is a row and which is a column if you're working with it visually. But, hey, she told us one time that Java is a row-dominant language and that arrays are always referred to as row column, so whatever the actuality of the situation, it won't matter.

As for advice, you would probably have more time (and confidence) if you didn't wait on your exams. By putting an exam off for multiple weeks, you force yourself to worry about the stuff on the exam, plus current material. Plus, if you feel like you're going to do badly, and you surprise yourself and do well, that builds confidence. It assures you that you know what you're doing even when you don't feel like you do.

Windows key+d shows the desktop too, and it's probably faster than the bottom right button. The thing I always hate about both of those is that after you open up whatever you needed from the desktop, you can't just automatically get your maximized windows back. You have to click them one at a time. It's rather frustrating. Gratz, "David." Oh, we already knew that, and he knows. That's why he didn't hide it. ~~ Back at college after thanksgiving break today. Literally stepped in the door to my dorm and wanted to go back home. It's pretty great. Three more weeks, and then I'm done and I get a month back home. *sigh* After that, I finally got back to writing. I'm feeling a lot better about it, a lot less frustrated, and it's really nice, though it's now 3:00 in the morning and I really should have gone to be like 3 hours ago. Time and ambition are the worst things. I never have ambition when I have time, and I never have time when I have ambition.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Maybe they were trying to spell Santana, and could find a suitable picture on google images because of the misspelling.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
To be fair, if someone called me up and told me that the program I wrote was doing something I didn't think it could physically (digitally?) do, as the creator, I would be fairly skeptical. I mean, theoretically, they know how it works at a more fundamental level than you would as a user. Not to say you're wrong, just that that's part of the engineer's reasoning.
