  1. Cleo from 5 to 7 - my first varda - and i loved it! the cameo by godard was really cool too. overall it's a rather charming film. can't wait to find another varda around town somewhere.
  2. man this was boring. i like to watch tarantino movies and pick out all the 'homages' lol.
  3. For Bunuel, I've only seen a bit of Un Chien Andalou and that was enough for me (anyone else who has seen or has read about it can figure out what I mean). That kind of put me off looking into his work more. I am a fan of Melville though, I would personally go for either Bob Le Flambeur or Le Samourai first although Le Cercle Rogue is good as well. Melville isn't for everyone though, his films have very little dialogue (especially Silence de la Mer & Le Cercle Rogue) and build up slowly. I like them but I know a few people who found the style frustrating. Out of interest, why didn't you like There Will Be Blood? I think I'll be fine with the lack of dialogue - I am a huge Antonioni fan after all. =) I'll check out Le Samourai and Bob le Flambeur though too - they seem pretty cool and a bit shorter than Le Cercle Rogue. Anyways, There Will Be Blood struck me as involving and awesomely acted (DDL playing a bad guy <3), but I could never grasp anything on it. In fact, I've had this problem with every P.T Anderson film. I watch it and I'm left rather cold. Nothing deep or insightful to latch on to imo, although I only watched There Will Be Blood once (so i guess my criticisms are just initial shocks). I did feel a bit bored but meh, I was rather tired while watching it a few nights ago. in short, it probably went over my head, haha. if you could elaborate a bit in a pm, i'd watch it at a more suitable time.
  4. Latest I've seen: 400 Blows - 5/10 3 Women (just received the criterion dvd actually, <3 region free player) - 10/10 - rewatch too, i love this movie to death. o_o There Will Be Blood - 5/10 Knife in The Water - 8/10 - i could see myself giving this a higher score actually, polanski is top 5 director for me. The Bird With The Crystal Plumage - 9/10 - this one too, I like Morricone's music with Argento, it's nothing like Goblin, but it's something different. Don't Look Now - 9/10 - this one was really unexpected too, I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. Thin Red Line - 7/10 - rather disappointing for Malick, but only seen once. The Exterminating Angel - 4/10 - not a good first experience with Bunuel, seemed really boring to me - anyone got any better suggestions for Bunuel? oh and anyone with suggestions for Melville? I was thinking of starting with Le Cercle Rogue (1970).
  5. ya paramore is cool. B) better than most things i've seen on most lists, actually.
  6. It's a rather radical style of BM when you think about it (a clear contrast to a lot), but Sacramentum, Darkthrone and Burzum are pretty much the only black metal bands that I consider with any sort of 'flawless' records. I think his music is more for the ambient fan rather than the black metal fan, but funny enough his ambient tracks can really suck sometimes (the one on filosofem...[bleep]).
  7. i don't think burzum goes on for too long. maybe on filosofem, but everything else is rather brief compared to other bands. overrated is really harsh too, lmao.
  8. only ONE mention of burzum? pssst...
  9. the easiest way to fix this problem is to not reply to these 'unexpected' lists.
  10. recently got rather addicted to godard and decided to purchase a lot of the movies i liked from him. i included some of my other favourites in there too.
  11. lol i wouldnt be caught dead wearing that. B)
  12. theyre pretty much gateway bands for people into more "serious" music, thus they are cherished as bands of 'nostalgic' value and people hold on to them as so. that isnt to say theyre bad but they're rather accessible gateways. if you don't get it, dont worry, a lot of people dont. or you can be like me and get it but not be a fan. B)B)B)B)B)B)
  13. so glad i finally have this collection of bootlegs, amazing stuff.
  14. i was actually pleasantly surprised by that album, im quite a sucker for 80s throwback tbh. i really like cabaret voltaire's red mecca album cover.
  15.   I probably shouldn't even dignify that claim with a response. tell us oh great roccodog, what do you listen to? i honestly think it's worse than the 'mtv music'. B)
  16. What have you seen so far? Virgin Spring - liked, a lot actually. Hour of the Wolf - good ideas, but generally not my thing. Wild Strawberries - same thing as Hour of the Wolf - I can't find myself to get into it. I'll be getting Persona and Seventh Seal soon. =)
  17. The first I saw of his was The Silence of God trilogy, and while I thought they looked good I wasn't all that excited either. Then I saw Wild Strawberries and I started to enjoy his work a little more. Then I saw The Seventh Seal (which some claim is his best) and I started to enjoy even more. Then I watched Fanny and Alexander and absolutely loved it, although 5 hours and 12 minutes is a pretty long runtime. Yea, I'm giving bergman some more chances. I didn't like WIld Strawberries or Hour of the Wolf but Persona and Seventh Seal look promising.
  18. The Virgin Spring (1960) - tbh its been the only bergman movie so far i've actually enjoyed (although the 'bad' ones i've seen have their merits), although i hear good things about persona. i just can't get excited over bergman. =(
  19. black metal musicians do seem a bit fanatical at times (absurd, mayhem, burzum, the lot), but i guess its all about the spirit. you should check out the chasm as well, warrior.
