  1. This movie is good, much better than Slumdog Millionaire. It's infinitely superior to Requiem For A Dream, and I like it about as much as Pi.
  2. that was actually a pretty good one, others are too weird for their own good, but certainly not terrible. Popol Vuh - To A Little Way
  3. It's a warm feeling. Although I get a rather cold feeling from this one. :(
  4. Once again you prove your immaturity and lack of logical reasoning when it comes to presenting an argument. First off, don't try to compare stand-up comedy from the early 1990s to the likes of a piece written during the Middle Ages, that's just way too much of a stretch. Sure I understand that you don't like cynicism, but when Hicks was in his prime, the comedy world was swamped with idiots like Andrew Dice Clay that told nothing but mind numbing, vulgar half punch-line jokes that were solely for shock value. Now put someone on the scene that has actually thought about their comedy more than using vulgarity, and you have someone that becomes a great comedian. Aside from George Carlin and maybe a couple others, no one was saying those types of things even 20 years before his time. You only see them as being regurgitated because in our day and age, they are, but 20 years ago, those weren't too common on the air waves like they are now. Bill Hicks isn't the whiny little baby that constantly cries about how messed up the world was like you portray him. Hicks was simply criticizing the fallacies that are present in our society. Whether you want to interpret that as being "whiny baby" is up to you, but I severely feel bad for you if that's all you can pull out of his stand-up. look secret admirer, it pretty much is. i sure that if you look deep enough [like with music], yes yes, i understand, he broke mainstream, and you know what? i told you before, I gave due respect [you did tell me I didn't have to like him], but everytime i explain a reason not to like him, it's the same stuff from you, admirer. "you have no logic" - err, i'm afraid i don't need logic, stand-up is highly boring and face it, bill hicks falls in that same trap. anyways, it was an extreme, yes, but that piece from the middle ages was meant to represent that comedy has been "deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep" since the middle ages, in all forms. hell, that piece from the middle ages was some sort of church drama meant to portray church lessons to peasants, but hey, look at someone like the aforementioned george carlin for someone doing bill hicks before bill hicks [not a fan of him either]. much like your bill hicks was trying to "enlighten" his audience. anyways, admirer, its a big honour to have you explain him to me, but on this side of the world, i just can't interpret all his complaining and whining in a way that makes him seem valiant. maybe i'd know where he was coming from if i was from the US, but no worries, admirer, you tried, and you tried hard.
  5. Most of those lists were compiled by comedy critics and fellow comedians, not the average trailer-park viewer. It doesn't matter if you don't need someone else to tell you about authority and Christianity, the fact that he challenges it to a mainstream audience is where respect comes in. You don't have to like him to respect him. Just the same as in music. I hate a lot of bands, but I can respect them for their talent. His ultra-cynical delivery reminds me of your ultra-cynical delivery in every post; unimpressive. The list still sucks - I do have respect for him, I haven't called him terrible [although I refuse to speak bad of dead people, but even if he was alive, I doubt I'd be calling him TERRIBLE], I just think he's unfunny and overrated [as the topic title says] and stop saying how "challenging" it is. I doubt comedy was brain-dead before Bill Hicks came in. shoot, even this medieval play is hilarious, but - okay whatever, you have some far leftist come in with some cynical attitude who complains about everything...even the wafflehouse workers...[ironic, no?]. I think books would've been a better medium for him. So please, stop with the unsubtle insults [my posts aren't even cynical] - but, WAIT! You like that sort of stuff! ooh maybe that was a quip towards liking my posts a lot..oooooo...I HAVE A SECRET ADMIRER!
  6. I find it quite funny how you justify almost all of your arguments on here by using "lol" unless you get called out on the topic. Using a deliberately out of place acronym doesn't make what you have to say any more true. You don't use any logic at all. I don't understand how you can have such disdain for a comedian who challenged his audience to use their heads and question norms along with authority while delivering it in a distinctly unique way. Well, you see, I'm always right. My validity isn't locked in by these bounds of logic, I'm just always right. I just used 'lol' because you used a list that placed chris rock at the number 5/100 of the best comedians of all time. read the post and its context...regardless, bill hicks doesn't strike me as funny. i always use my head when it comes to things [even comedy!] and frankly, i don't need someone [especially some liberal, yes, his political leanings were annoying and he cried too much] regurgitating what i know about authority and Christianity (although the dinosaur skit is okay) [it might be fair to know that stand-up comedians usually come to fail for me, i hate mitch hedberg too] and yay ultra-cynical delivery blah blah blah, whatever, unimpressive. shame he's dead though.
  7. Blitzkrieg - A Time of Changes [album]
  8. Yeah, Bill Hicks was terrible. Are these the same lists that rate Chris Rock amongst the top 5 comedians ever? lol. Lay off, you're not proving anything with all of these lists. I could've just said Dane Cook and held back my disdain for Bill Hicks, but then this topic would be just a bunch of Dane Cook replies, no?
  9. Dane Cook / Bill Hicks.
  10. Rap

i like a bit of rap. i'm not ambitious enough to really get into it though. (in before flames)
  11. Slumdog Millionaire - 0/4 Escape From New York - 3/4 They Live - 3/4 Escape From L.A - 2/4 À bout de souffle - 3/4 Overall good week here, I did go on a bit of a John Carpenter-fest, and I'm slowly getting into Godard. Although I haven't watched too much noir. :[
  12. Oops. Looks like I'm gonna be going on the highway to Hell. :ohnoes: God is very angry and would like to have a word with you...there's still hope. Actually, nevermind, you don't listen to metal. z-z-z-zing.
  13. metal is for heathens and sinners.
  14. Sacramentum - Blood Shall Be Spilled
  15. Babylon Sad - Pictures of Paradise off the album Kyrie. definitely one of the better death metal gems i've found, even if it sort of kills its flow later on the album. i really don't know what to say is similar - it's progressive death metal, and while I can draw some references to Death and the like...it doesn't really sound all that much like death. puzzling album
  16. Do you think it's their best? I hear they've done some good DM but I've not really checked out any of their albums yet. Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious by Carcass (album). It's my favourite from them - but there's varying opinions. It's good nonetheless. Burzum - Jesus Tod.
  17. Incantation - Onward to Golgotha
  18. Pagan Altar - Daemoni Na Noiche easily one of the best modern doom albums - probably one of the best modern metal albums too.
  19. kraftwerk - autobahn
  20. Sacramentum - Far Away From The Sun (album)
  21. Been watching Cronenberg and Argento recently. Videodrome 4/4 A History of Violence 3/4 Suspiria 3/4 Tenebre 2/4 Scanners 2/4
  22. TWILIGHT FOR BOTH CATEGORIES!
