  1. This is why I don't like it when people call it "barbarian fishing." The more accurate and unambiguous term is "heavy rod fishing." #-o
  2. Yes. It's also a fine choice.
  3. This is wrong. The correct level to switch to monkfish is immediately at 62. The difference between monks at 62 and monks at 75 is no more drastic than the difference between fly fishing at 62 and fly fishing at 75. Monkfish are the best training method as soon as it's possible to catch them. A tip: Set the display mode to high detail and stretch your window as much as you can horizontally, but shrink it as much as you can vertically. This gives you a widescreen view of the area, so that you can always see the fishing spot when it moves without needing to angle your camera. Sorry to hijack this thread, but how fast do monks fish as compared to lobsters? If you weren't timing it, you might think they're the same speed. The catchrate is pretty damn close. The experience and profit are strictly better, so there's really no good reason to catch lobsters when you can catch monkfish. And that applies to anyone who isn't a skiller pure--even if you haven't done the quest, the difference is enough that the quest will save you much more time than it takes to actually get the reqs and do it.

  5. Have you tried logging out? Always works for me.
  6. Woodcutting, useful? Ha! I don't think so. Even with yews at 500 each, they still max at ~120k gp/hr in p2p.
  7. No, yet again you don't read what I say! They can play the game however much they want, whenever they want and do whatever they want ingame. I just don't see a reason why they should get skillcapes. I don't care of the negative ingame effects, the fact that you have not payed anything at all to get those updates is what I care about. Right. You're saying f2p shouldn't get this update because f2p shouldn't get any updates. And that simply doesn't follow when you recognize Jagex's intentions for f2p to be its own game. Now, granted, if this update happened to be something major that would take up significant amounts of developers' time without any relevance to the members' game, then you might have yourself a case. But it's little more than a minor tweak, making a members' item into a nonmembers' item and moving a few skill masters into f2p areas. At most, the only difficulty might be in altering the stats of the capes when they move from a p2p to a f2p world, and they already do that with every piece of members' equipment, don't they? So there's really no way that giving skillcapes to f2p would result in any reduction in p2p content.
  8. The rule doesn't cover how many lines of text you can have if some of them are inside a hide tag and some of them aren't, like in my signature. I'm assuming you can have 4 outside and 10 inside?
  9. I really like it. I support. The core idea of excavating fissures seems a lot like mining, but I like that it can be utilized in more ways than just extracting resources. Excavating new caverns is an aspect of the skill that I particularly like, as well as digging up untradable items to help train skills...although I would make those require fewer shards to put together, and I don't know if there's a need to make coelecanths so ridiculously hard to reach. A cave at the base of Trollheim would be plenty far from a bank to balance it, especially since the catchrate for a level 85 fish is bound to be so slow already. Also, I think the familiars might make more sense as pets. Astronomy sounds like an interesting idea as well.
  10. Valid? They don't pay for the game?! I've seen several posts demanding to get skillcapes as F2P on RSOF. And the main thing here is, they give you a finger and you take the hand. Once they give you the skillcapes you'll never see the end of "GIVE F2P XXXXX" threads on the forums. Sure you don't do that, I'm sure you're actually a mature player that only thinks that skillcapes for F2P is a plus. Doesn't change the facts that there always a bunch of noobs/tards/whatever that demands more, more and more. Oh and by the way. And read this carefully as it is the pure truth. The game is free to a certain EXTENT! And yes, the ads pay for the games. Where exactly is the F2P player giving them their money to JaGeX? Edit0r: can we stop doing quote towers? ;) You're saying IF we give any updates to f2p, THEN n00bs will ask for more, THEREFORE (because n00bs asking for more is bad), we should not give updates to f2p. And you're wrong. Here's why. First, this reasoning should, if valid, apply to any update. But free players have recently gotten quite a lot of major updates in the past year. Duel Arena, more bank space, Fist of Guthix, the Runecrafting guild, PvP and Bounty Hunter worlds, the Stronghold of Security, the Stronghold of Player Safety, and the removal of members-only content teasers from f2p worlds are prominent examples. None of these have had negative effects on the community, and there's no reason to suspect that skillcapes would, either. Second, n00bs demanding updates are easily ignored. Jagex does it all the time. Nobody cares if people shout. Just because they ask for it doesn't mean they'll get it. And f2p n00bs can't even post on the official forums, so they can't spam it up even if they wanted to. Most of the spamming on the RSOF is done by members. I guarantee that if skillcapes become f2p, the forums will be filled not with free players demanding more, but with members howling bloody murder that their skillcapes are available to everybody. Third, extending this reasoning results in the conclusion that free players should receive no updates. This is contrary to Jagex's oft-stated position that f2p is not a demo but rather is a complete game on its own and will be treated as such. Finally, you have still failed to explain any reason why this change would NOT be good. All you've given is spite: "They can't have it because they shouldn't have anything! They're leeches who don't deserve to play the game at all!" And I think the reason you can't come up with any is that there is nothing to come up with. There would be no negative effects.
  11. So leeching because your F2P is totally OK? I don't think leeching in any way in this world is supported so why on earth would I want JaGeX to support you guys? "Leeching"? Like I said, they're not going to follow you around and share the same cape that you're wearing! They would be able to buy their own cape after leveling their own skill until they have their own 13,034,431 experience in it. How are they "leeching"? That doesn't even mean anything! Are you suggesting that they shouldn't be allowed to play the game for free? Come on, be serious. :wall: They can go ahead and play how much they want. However when they start demanding stuff they haven't even payed for I don't really see how they are "just playing the game for free". By leeching I mean they sure as hell doesn't pay the $5 a month, I do. Many others do. F2P doesn't. See a pattern? So f2p does not deserve anything it doesn't pay for. That's what I'm gathering from your post here. Yeah, look, that's stupid, okay? The game is free, period. The free game is supported by ad revenue. And nobody is "demanding." Well, except you...you're demanding that they don't get it, and you haven't given any valid warrants to support your claim that they don't deserve it.

  13. The emote is still just for showing off. It's rather harmless and could be given to f2p. The hood too. Taking away or reducing the combat stats of the skillcape is sensible, though. I would support reducing the stats to +2 to all defense (and +1 to prayer for trimmed) in free worlds if that's possible.
  14. If you dont mind me asking, what is the toy mouse thing? :-# Toy mice can be wound up, released, and picked up to gain a couple points of agility experience. So if all you needed was to gain any amount of experience in any skill to get drop potential, the person standing around idly could wind up a toy mouse to satisfy the requirements, and not need to risk any additional wealth the way they would if they alched, for example.
  15. WAITWAITWAIT? Are you seriously comparing Yew and Magic? The fact that Yew is twice the money and like five times the experience then magic and we're supposedly to get 99 easier cutting magics as P2P? HAHAHAHA OKAY! And like many others have pointed, without members money none of those servers would've been online. Uh, no, yews are 1.5x the experience of magics and 0.75x the profit. But I think Pianokid meant to talk about eucalyptus, which beats f2p yew chopping by about 10-15k xp/hr and is more profitable, or teaks, which are twice as fast for xp as f2p yews and 1.5x as fast as f2p willows. I just don't like to give some leechers, which does nothing other than leech of us P2P players, skillcapes which we payed for. Debate why? They gained 13 million just as easy as we P2P did! Willows is still the best Woodcutting XP. Lobsters isn't bad XP either. Maple/Yew is still best for Firemaking. All of theese can be used by P2P aswell as F2P! The only thing F2P has a hardtime to get is probably Mining (no granite) Crafting (no dragon hides) and prayer. Rest should be a cakewalk. But then again, we payed so we could SPEED UP our levels we get if we wanted to spend our money on it! They didn't. Not my problem. I rather see a quest update for P2P than Skillcapes for F2P instead of our quest. GIVE them your skillcapes? "In today's update, we've made skillcapes available to free players! Starting today, any member who gets a skill to level 99 must go to a free world and trade their skillcape to the first random player they see! Members will also no longer be able to buy new skillcapes from the skill masters who used to sell them, and any skillcapes that were being worn have been removed and can no longer be equipped until they are given away." Do the thread a favor and be sensible. NOTHING IS BEING TAKEN AWAY. Nothing. You still wear your skillcape. You still train at the same speed. Everything is the same for you. Exactly the same. No difference. All that would change is that free players who achieve the impressive and notable feat of level 99 in a skill will be eligible for a strictly cosmetic reward. Actually, the other effect would be to let you, the member, equip your skillcape while in a free world. There is NO negative effect on your gameplay if skillcapes become f2p. NONE. (Oh, and you clearly are not very knowledgeable about skill training either, because chopping willows, caging lobsters, and burning yews are all substandard training methods in p2p.)
  16. First, a bunch of other people also said they didn't like exploring and that it was a waste of time. (I'm not much of an explorer myself; I like to know where I'm going.) But it probably isn't necessary to keep digging up more quotes, I assume. Second, I'm not questioning your opinion that this kind of person is annoying. It's just that you really can't claim that the type of behavior you hate is overrunning the type of behavior you respect. The title of the thread, for example, is misleading, because it implies that nobody explores anymore; your posts have had the same sentiment. Really all I'm arguing, essentially, is that you just need to properly qualify your claims. If you want to say, "Argh, I hate it when people do this!" that's easy. You want to say, "More than half of the population of Runescape is totally helpless," well, then you're gonna need to have some statistics. Maybe point to a poll, like this one, where only 10% of those who have responded as of this writing have said they either have not seen a musician or have no idea what a musician is...not exactly a majority. I'm just saying, take the position you really mean to defend. :-w (Third, the upgrade year idea was based on heavy amounts of player feedback demanding that Jagex stop releasing endless new content while older content is ignored and left to fester in obscurity, not because the players were whining that training was too hard. But that's a little off-topic.)
  17. Whoever changed the kwuarm and toadflax prices to update automatically, that was a good idea. =D>
  18. Laymen's Terms: I have more experience and knowledge of the game. There is a broader spectrum of the game's players I have met than a lot of people. Experience = knowledge = my arguments retain more water than someone with less of each. Unlike some people on this thread I don't spew out thoughts without making sure I know what I am talking about first. I'm sorry I had to dumb down my thoughts for you. I get the feeling you saw a wall of text and you turned off to reading it. That's ok though now that I've made it clearer for you. You know what beats experience? Evidence. Here, let me give you an example. I'm arguing against the suggestion that there is a trend that "people don't explore anymore." I'll provide some evidence then, shall I? [hide=Evidence] [/hide] See, I have provided a nice fat chunk of evidence that proves there are still plenty of people who like to explore. Thus, I am right. :ugeek: Although in alot of those statements, people have used the lines 'when i first became a member....' and don't give a timescale, they could have only really explored years ago, but not anymore. It seems people are taking my posts too literally, it amy sound like i'm making sweeping generalisations saying that nobody explores and everybody is grinding etc, but that isn't what im trying to say, i'm trying to get across that from what i can see, alot less people go around just to get away and have fun, than did when i first started. "A lot less people than when I first started" is a sweeping generalization. Think of it this way. How many other people did you see exploring when you were doing it? It's a pretty solitary activity. When people go out exploring, they don't need to tell you about it. They just do it. In contrast, when people ask you for help, they have to actually talk to you. When you went exploring, did you pm all of your friends to say, "Hey guys, I'm trying to find the Mjolnirs right now!"? One activity is solitary and the other is social. So obviously you're going to hear more of your friends ask you for help than explore, because when people explore, they don't bother to tell you. You can't hear them when they're exploring. Make sense?

  20. That's blatantly false. Any other argument you've made based on this premise is meaningless. F2P is a complete game on its own.

Well, if you're rich, then no. But, amazingly, not all of us are.. I did it at 76 and it's worth it, because I need the money. You get money faster at Monks. And from mining gold, and from killing green dragons, etc. Almost anything is faster than shark fishing. It's under 100k per hour. F2p'ers can make more than that.[/hide]So, I ask as an avid fisherman, what is the most profitable fish? Monks? Swordies? Honestly? No fish is very profitable. Monkfish and sharks are lucky if they break 150k gp/hr at 99 fishing. I can make double that easily with cooking or herblore or combat or any number of ways. Fishing is a horrible moneymaker. Cooking? Herblore? You lost me, mate. I thought, ever since RWTs left and skill capes were introduced that those skills did nothing but cost money, with a few esoteric examples. Unf. pots and pizzas.
  22. It's a pretty far cry between "I hate it when people do this" and "All the new players do this and it's ruining the game." You may be right on the first point, but you're wrong on the second, and if you really want to retort with as much evidence as you can, I'd like to see that.
  23. Yeah, you should be able to get the body parts from the creatures in the maze.
  24. Followers are not allowed on the Ape Atoll agility course.
  25. The macaw helps you with herbs in three ways. 1. When fighting herb-dropping monsters, it improves the quality of drops, giving you more high-level herbs instead of low-level herbs. 2. You can use the scroll as often as once per minute to make the macaw fly up and have a chance of dropping a random herb on the ground next to you. 3. Herbs will occasionally appear in the macaw's inventory. This happens pretty rarely, at most once or twice a pouch in my experience, and oftentimes not at all for the duration of the timer. Hope that answers your question.
