The "upgrades" have had an enormous impact on literally almost everything in the game. The random event update was a huge, highly anticipated, and highly successful update that affected pretty much every skill in a positive way. The resting/run energy update means I can do any activity that requires running and never need energy restoration again, which is a big deal. The pathfinding update (no more doubling back when you run) is the sort of thing you've probably already forgotten about, I bet, but that removed a significant annoyance. And the price checker is something I use on a regular basis. Important updates don't need to be flashy. It's more important to fix the stuff you have already. Don't toss it aside, ignore where it's broken, and give us some lame new minigame that's just as screwed up, like they did in 2008. I mean, what have we gotten last year that's so much better than this year? New content has always been a mixed bag as far as quality and relevance. Every update can't be a hit. I think Jagex is responding better to player feedback this year and that the relevance of new content is improving.
  2. The other letters are supposed to have hints too. Evil Dave's letter: Something involving either Evil Dave or his "SPANIEL OF UNIMAGINABLE HORROR." Dr. Nabanik's letter: This is obvious, it means they're continuing to work on the Mysteries of the Mahjarrat quest line. Zimberfizz's letter: Lines up with the Hardens South section of the CE's suitcase. Something is fishy about Nomad, and we're going to find out what. Thurgo's letter: Talking about different types of metal probably is a subtle nod at the elemental equipment, so I'm thinking Elemental Workshop 3. Ping and Pong's letter: Penguins. Cold War 3, presumably, or else whatever the "rock star" hint is referring to. Reldo's letter: Has to do with elves; therefore, a future update will have to do with elves. Lines up with the Temple of Light map. Vargas's letter: Likely a hint at the same thing as the peanut joke, some sort of barbarian Assault update.
  3. Well, he's not directly involved in content, is he? His job is to coordinate what they should do...the process of working on discussing things is probably a lot of what he does at Jagex when he works on Runescape. We'll probably get more detailed answers from the Content Team, since they're more directly involved. Much in the same way the President of the US is in charge of the armed forces, but it's the generals who truly attend to the war effort. Unfortunately MMG is the RS equivalent of George Bush. -.- Yes, actually, much in the same way. If you want to know how the war effort is going, you'll get better answers if you ask the generals directly than if you ask the president. The president guides the overall policy, and the cabinet reports to him. Most of the actual details are delegated to the folks on the ground.

Remember Vinesweeper? Remember Stealing Creation? Remember Clan Wars and Bounty Hunter? I remember. I remember how they rushed them out to get them online quickly. And what happened? Almost immediately, they needed complete overhauls because they sucked. How many updates this year have needed massive rebalancing right after the release? Soul Wars got a few minor tweaks based on player feedback, to nerf freeloading, and that's all I can come up with. Last year had more lame updates than this year is getting. Like Perils of Ice Mountain, remember that? And Catapult Construction? Gnomecopters? Grenwalls and Pawyas? All of those had been released by this time last year. They might as well have been empty weeks for all they've added to the game. Which specific updates this year have disappointed you? Even the "meh" quests are continuations of existing storylines. I just browsed the news archive and for me it's pretty much Seers' Diary and that's it.
  5. Combat familiars are seriously underrated. What's wrong with having a fire titan smacking the other guy for 15 damage? A good combat familiar will probably add more damage than something like drinking a super strength potion would. And prayer! How can anyone say prayer is just empty combat levels? That is the very essence of n00b there.
  6. Well there's your catch, no? "Once you get the helm and all the abilities." Getting the helm and the slayer rings were a huge incentive for me to train slayer, and I've never regretted getting either. The slayer rings have been hugely useful: fastest way to get around the desert, period. Fastest way to get to fairy rings, period. Fastest way to get to Canifis, period. Easy access to your house without needing inventory space for runes. And instant completion of Tarn's Lair without setting foot in the long and annoying maze. They've been indispensible. Not sure how I went without them before the update.
  7. It doesn't bother me. It's only on the main page, not the forums or Game Guide or anything, and how much time do we really spend looking at just the main page, really?

  9. Complete the following quests in order to get 25 herblore at no monetary cost: Druidic Ritual -> Jungle Potion -> Recruitment Drive -> Zogre Flesh Eaters -> Shades of Mort'ton -> Digsite 20 Construction can be attained very quickly with just a few ordinary planks and nails and a hammer and saw. You can buy a house from a real estate agent for cheap, then just make whatever furniture you can, and you'll be at 20 in no time.
  10. Actually, depending on how fast you want to go, 99 cooking is anywhere from 20m loss (wine) to 70m profit (pizza).
  11. I like to kill the ork legions too, because they have a great charm drop rate.
  12. Thieving is great. It's very fast, faster even than firemaking, you make a small profit, you don't need any money to start off, and the purple cape goes great with pretty much anything, especially once you get the black trim.
  13. For some reason people seem to think a thieving cape is worth more respect than a firemaking or fletching cape, even though thieving is easier to get to 99 than either of them. It doesn't matter, though, because the people who care are already n00bs, and you should be ignoring what they say anyway.
  14. For magic you can charge air orbs. Better xp than you'll get from splashing and you make a tidy profit.
  15. Orb charging is a decent way to get magic xp at a profit. I was making 200k gp/hr charging air orbs last time I trained magic, which was a while ago, but the prices can't have changed all that much. Should only be about 40k xp/hr, but I bet it beats fire waving iron dragons. And it's easier to multitask than most other methods. It's not that hard to mage at a profit, really.
  16. You don't need to do anything with anything in the game, because you quit. Why drop anything at all? Just ignore your account. If you ever un-quit, you can come back to it and spend the coins on training skills then. You don't have any way of knowing whether raw materials will be more or less expensive, and long-term merchanting is based mostly on finding undervalued items that may take a while to rise. If you see one of those (like if flax was at 65 gp each or something) then that would be a good place to spend it; if you can't identify anything, just keep the money in cash form and walk away.
  17. Skillcapes aren't important, therefore they shouldn't exist? Uh, no. Just no. -.-
  18. I agree too. I don't really care WHETHER they become f2p or not, but I think they SHOULD be f2p. A subtle difference. Skillcapes should just be deleted. Never going to happen. There really just to show off you have a 99 but it is a little reward in the long run, I assume as soon as you get a cape your like  : \ but after the effect of the 99 has worn off and you have done the emote about 50 times your like -.- skill cape = obby cape with tinsel, yeah it looks different and has 1 or 2 extra uses but after 10 mins you wonder why you botherd to get the tinsel. I think that only applies for the people who are only playing the game for the cape. If you get the 99 cos you like the skill then the skill cape isn't so bad, but could be better to make it worth while. As far as caring goes, I don't but I feel if members can have it, why not f2p. I don't wonder why I bothered to get the tinsel. The skillcape looks sooo much better than any other cape. And I almost always use prayer for combat nowadays, so the boost is very relevant. And I only don't use the emote just because I don't use emotes in general. Every time I do use emotes, I'll hit the skillcape emote at least once.
  19. That's not helpful at all. You can make another gold bowl without the smithing instructions; just use more gold bars on an anvil. You can summon Gujuo to bless them by using your bull roarer; if you lost the bull roarer, you can trade an oomlie wrap to one of the Khazari Jungle foresters to get another. The book of binding needed to enchant the vials to hold holy water can be reobtained easily from a POH bookcase. If you want to make holy water in bulk, just make a full inventory's worth of blessed bowls and fill them all in one trip and use a bank near an altar (Oo'glog's sulfurous spring should work nicely) to bless vials. Or, just make one or two, meh.
  20. Way to miss the point. What I'm trying to say is that nothing you can do with firemaking requires that it be a skill in which you can gain experience and level up. Use logs -> Tinderbox. Make a fire. Do not gain experience, do not collect $200. Pyres are a contrived justification.
  21. Yeah, this makes me really think about how much people underestimate the watermaking skill. Think about it. 1. Without watermaking, how would you train herblore? You wouldn't be able to fill empty vials with water. 2. You need watermaking to make soft clay, which is important for making teletablets. 3. Watermaking is essential for getting around in the desert, cuz you'd die pretty quickly without waterskins. 4. You need watermaking to make jugs of water, which are used for wine, the game's fastest cooking xp (except lunar bake pie spells). 5. It's one of the most impotant skills in Trouble Brewing. You can't make 'rum' without water. 6. Watermaking is important in cooking, because you need water to mix with flour in order to get dough. What would we do if we couldn't get experience in a skill like watermaking? Just use a bucket on a sink and not get experience from it? Then how would we fill up higher-level buckets with water? Getting 75 watermaking to fill magic buckets with water was one of my most prized accomplishments, even if they're the same as ordinary lv1 buckets of water. And it's a great skill for moneymaking too. I don't know how we would get along if we didn't have watermaking as a skill!

I meant buying cowhides. Leather is the same price as soft clay in the GE, and cowhides are about 50 gp cheaper than soft clay, plus the experience is faster with leather anyway. No real reason to do clay tbh.
  23. Troacctid replied to Dax's topic in Help and Advice
With level 5 crafting already it probably means daxter has done Goblin Diplomacy and Sheep Shearer already, which puts quests out of the picture. Just go with leather. It's actually cheaper than clay, isn't it?
  24. You could find some guy to gather them for you, and pay that person extra.
  25. Roundshield. You'll stop more damage by lowering their max than by raising your defence.
