  1. Oh, I didn't see that. Even three years isn't much for a microwave..
  2. Nothing unreasonable about that imo. A microwave should last longer than a year, no need to spend money if you don't need to.
  3. I heard a fluffy zoe was posting here? 0.

It's not up to us to tell people what they can and cannot do. Because society never does that, right?
  5. Lol I know tons of WW2 facts. Some arguments though, but not much.
  6. I am TIF's official grammar Nazi and I approve of this post. The title of this thread has been used many times in various publications - Huffington Post: Poverty Rate In U.S. Saw Record Increase In 2009: 1 In 7 Americans Are Poor NPR: Report: Nearly 1 In 7 Americans Were Poor In '09 Heritage Foundation: In recent years, the Census has reported that one in seven Americans are poor. Just consider it to be a quote  Ahhhh makes me mad because the quote is wrong ;-;. I don't know why it bothers me so much, but it does lol. Actually it doesn't annoy me that much because it is pretty obscure. The phrase "Americans ARE poor" is correct in itself, it's just easy to forget that the 1 is who's being referred to as poor, not the seven.
  7. My opinion is that just because there are multiple injustices in the world doesn't mean we should only address the worst.
  8. I am TIF's official grammar Nazi and I approve of this post. @nomrombom: looks interesting, might buy it.
  9. It's 100F here atm. Might set an all time heat record today :(
  10. Is it bad that when people say battlefield the only game I know of is 1942?
  11. If you stop posting in the count to 500 and get to 1000 threads, it's a deal. Not fair :(
  12. Yup. But as I've said before there are idiots in every country. People only notice because it's the states.
  13. Just because people have the option of ignoring someone doesn't mean people with responsibility shouldn't do anything about it. For example, we (mods) discipline people here who often insult and belittle other people despite the fact that their "victims" could easily just block the person.
  14. stop spamming ffs
  15. Nope, #1 was the lie. #2 is the lie.

  17. @game - interesting. I made it through the month with $13, but even then I'd do a lot differently if I was actually in that situation (such as not have a cell phone).
  18. I do think parents have a responsibility to limit and control their children's access to the internet - but even there like Kim said there is a limit to what they can reasonably do.
  19. It's as simple as that if you've got the maturity to do so. But much of cyber bullying is directed either at people who are too young to let it go that easily or too emotionally fragile.

  21. #3 is a lie. 1. I am the oldest of six children. 2. I work for the government. 3. I like Iron Maiden. #2 is a lie 1.I am left handed 2.I speak german 3.I like turtles Nope, #1 was the lie. I'm the oldest of seven. #2 is a lie for you. 1. I dye my hair 2. I like hockey. 3. I don't like marshmellows.
  22. To be very blunt, your story and the point you make irritates me (an implicit fallacy of composition), and is exactly the reason the definition of poverty needs to be changed in the U.S. 1 in 7 Americans are poor by our definition. Here is a heart-wrenching example of someone who is poor (happens to be the poorest person in America). Therefore, we need to do more for all people classified as "poor" by our definition, including the ones that happen to be well off. I don't quite understand your statement. Are you saying my family should not have been classified as poor? Or are you saying that others who are classified as poor should not be? All I was arguing against is people who think poor is absolute. That's all. No, he's saying that just because your family happens to fit an ideal definition of poor doesn't mean everyone happens to be like that and we shouldn't assume they are.
  23. Yeah. And I mean, I'm not one of those people who says "all poor people are poor of their own doing, let them be" - but not everyone deserves help. If they deserve it, by all means they should receive food stamps and more. But if they're paying for luxuries and letting the government pay for their food; no - they don't deserve anything.
  24. 60% of the 1 in 7 "poor" people are paying for cable or satellite t.v. each month. I'm sorry, but if you "can't afford" basic necessities like food but you can afford pay for cable each month, you shouldn't be receiving food stamps. I agree with this completely. I'm in favour of aggressive anti-poverty social programs and always have been - but the government does not exist to give people a free ride.
