FBI needs help!
I'm probably not the first one to notice this, hell, I might be pointing out something obvious everyone had figured out, but for some reason that seems like. FIRST PERSON DONE 71 "NCBE" (maybe NBCE, not before common era? Kinda far-fetched, I know, wouldn't even make sense either way) SECOND PERSON DONE 74 "NCBE" "PRTSE" (maybe FIRST again?) PERSON REDONE 75 "NBCE" Anyway, I'm just throwing stuff in here, maybe someone else will see the pattern in it, but so far I see nothing, well except for these half anagrams :/ But that part just resembles a kind of list too much for it to be coincidence. It's patterns like this that make me think it's just random scribbles to throw the police off, to be honest. But the commonality report shows that if that's the case this guy went to quite some length to make it look legit. EDIT: Well looking on wikipedia says that they think the victim actually wrote them, as he had done so prior to his death on multiple occasions.

Oh I don't think NY will win...their offense has been pretty bad. But I think Lundquist can hold them in for a least 2 wins.

Why would NYR goaltending be horrible? Lundquist has been fairly solid all season...

Like what? It does usually help to provide examples with half-assed generalised claims. Well, do I really need to compare the influence the states has and the influence China has?

Can't see Chi only winning one against van....same with sj vs nsh. I also see la winning at least one against phx, but I have them to win personally. Can't see wsh sweeping ny either. Think pit has more experience then TB to be honest. ANA vs. DET will be a good one for sure (if it happens).

Ok well here's what it looks like right now - realistically I think things will stay pretty much the same. Do you want to pick the entire process? Or just first round? I'll do entire process right now, with number of games as well. First PHI vs. BUF -> Phi in 6 WSH vs. NYR -> WSH in 7 BOS vs. MTL -> BOS in 6 PIT vs. TB -> PIT in 7 VAN vs. CHI -> VAN in 7 DET vs. ANA -> DET in 7 SJS vs NSH -> NSH in 7 PHX vs. LAK -> LAK in 7 Second PHI vs PIT -> PIT in 7 WSH vs BOS -> BOS in 7 VAN vs NSH -> VAN in 6 DET vs LAK -> DET in 7 Third PIT vs. BOS -> BOS in 7 VAN vs DET -> VAN in 7 Final VAN vs BOS - VAN in 6 Kind of guessed at the seeds...

Well, we'll see. You want to get a playoff pool started then? I think we've probably already got the east playoffs teams (only positions may change at this point) - and the west is basically locked except for 7th and 8th I think..

Ok, I'm going to use bold and all caps to help you actually read my post. I AM NOT SAYING THAT WENDEL CLARK WAS SOME KIND OF PROLIFIC GOAL-SCORING CHECKER. Wendel clark was a checker, a good physical player with some offensive upside. Not every player on a team should be sidney crosby. Phil Kessel is an elite level hockey player who's production COULD be better than all three draft picks. WE DO NOT KNOW YET. Yup, that was Clark's best season. Yup, because he played with great players. It doesn't change the fact that his job on the team was as a physical player with secondary scoring ability. And he did that very well. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm saying YOU DON'T KNOW. All three players are always better than one player? Ok. So it would be a great trade then, for pittsburgh to trade Crosby to toronto for lebda, komisarek, and rosehill, right? Because, according to your logic: "ANY THREE PLAYERS are ALWAYS better than ONE player". Make a judgement on the trade once you actually know how those draft picks will pan out, not before. @fsk: if chicago actually makes the playoffs i think they're a threat as well. Vancouver still has to exorcise those old demons, so to speak.

Good win last night. Also nice to see Vancouver clinch the conference for the first time in their history :) Should win the presidents as well, most likely...

China > America
Oh, they're powerful alright. But they will never be anything like the States at their prime. Without the US, china's biggest exporter is gone. A stable economy (even society) relies on increasing population (or at least steady). China faces a massive demographic shift with an aging population that will make it impossible to stay economically stable and maintain a military. And yes, impinging on people's freedom to reproduce is barbaric. Actually, there are many countries in the word that have their debt at a higher % of GDP then the states does.

Guys, I know you're well meaning and all, but I was convince by the their first post. I just can't compete with their reasons or sources.

The Obligatory Ice Hockey Thread
Yes, if we're talking about a scoring forward. Wendel clark was primarily a checker, so 46 goals/76 points in 64 games is superb. That's untrue. 60% of draft picks don't make it as NHL players. That's a fact, proven by the drafts of the past 30 years. But my primary point was with clark's existing totals - 46 goals in 64 games is superb for a checking winger even if he never got another point. Uhh yeah going to have to ask for a source on that. I never said they had a shot. I simply said they are not terrible. A team that is over 500 is not terrible. I agree, the leafs won't make the playoffs this year. I also agree, they have a ways to go before they can compete seriously. But they aren't terrible.
-
The Obligatory Ice Hockey Thread
It's a semantic. I didn't know checking wingers needed to score more than 80 points to be good. Ridiculous. Wait, what? This is so mind-bogglingly ridiculous that I don't know how to respond. I never denied that teams that have gone through full rebuilds have become dynasties and won cups. What I'm saying is that there are plenty of teams who have also done full rebuilds who have never won a cup. You guys act like full rebuilds are a guarantee of a cup and dynasties. This is completely untrue. I never said it made the leafs a good team. I'm saying that they have at times played well - and that makes them less then horrible. They aren't good. They are not horrible. Credibility and education? I see none of that here, and neither does everyone else reading this thread besides you and bly.

The Obligatory Ice Hockey Thread
Perfectly good discussion? You ignore half my points and come back with so called "victory blows". For example, your only comeback to my post about clark was that 76 points is different then 80. I rounded up. It was in 64 games. But you completely ignore that. Neither of you are any good at debating. All you're doing is spouting nonsense and ignoring every single good point we make because you're so set on bashing the leafs that you can't see two inches in front of your face. The leafs are "pretty horrible"? Sorry, how would you classify every team in the national hockey league then (excepting NJ and NYI), because the leafs record since the all star break is better then all of them. That's exactly the kind of uneducated, off the cuff comment that gives you no credibility in my eyes.

No, I'm not missing the point at all. The truth is, you have NO WAY of knowing how those draft picks will pan out. Saying they'll be better than Kessel is nothing more than speculative idiocy. Ahh, yes. Wendel Clark, total crap. Let's see. 1993-1994. 46 goals, 30 assists, 76 points, +10. In 64 games played. As a checking winger. Hmm, I wonder who has 46 goals this season in the nhl, after 75 games played. Let's see...how about no one? Bad penalties? Fights? Injuries? Sure. That makes him imperfect, not bad.

And who says their morality is god given? The church? Yes. That's the job of the vatican - to study scripture and logic to infer God's will.

I accept that de jure discrimination doesn't exist. However: Catholic charities on gay couples right to adoption: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1304333/Catholic-charity-loses-appeal-gay-adoption.htmlVatican on Catholic priests and homosexuality ('intrinisically disordered'): http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jul/24/catholic-church-gay-priests-exposedBBC report on Catholic attitudes towards homosexuality: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11307683De facto discrimination definitely does exist. Would it be acceptable for a private company to 'Um' and 'Arr' over whether to employ a homosexual simply because of his sexuality? No. I'm not claiming religion does more bad than good, just playing Devil's Advocate. There seems to be some disconnect with what the church preaches, and what it actually approves of. First link: Catholic charities don't allow unmarried couples to adopt. Since a gay marriage cannot be condoned from a catholic perspective, denying their services to a gay couple is no different then denying the child to an unmarried couple. second link: That's the teaching of the chuch, yes. Any straight priests who intent to visit straight strip clubs would also be asked to leave the priesthood. Third link: Don't have time to listen at the moment, perhaps you'd care to paraphrase? Here's the thing with your last sentence - it's practically never simply because of sexuality. If someone is gay, it is against the morals of the church to discriminate against them in any way because of that fact alone, as there's nothing wrong with being gay. However - I'll use the drug example again. Would you refuse to allow a drug addict to stay in your house? Probably not. Would you refuse to allow them to stay in your house if they were going to be doing drugs in your house? You may well. If there's any disconnect, it's because people are unfamiliar with what the church actually teaches, which is certainly commonplace. EDIT: Actually, I watched a bit of the video. The issue there is that these gay people attending church are actively committing moral sin by engaging in gay sexual activity. It has nothing to do with the state of them being attracted to the same sex, rather then acting on it. The interview with the gay man about two minutes in, where he talks about "the church losing touch with the wants of its congregation". That quote, to me, demonstrates a functional disconnect in regards to the idea of the purpose of the church. The church does not exist to please its followers. It does not exist to cave into populist agendas. The chuch has, and will continue to, taken unpopular stances on important issues, precisely because absolute god-given morality surpasses base human wants and desires.

It's funny how much the lack of knowledge about religion shows through in atheist manifestos. Firstly - the catholic church is not homophobic. I've made this argument thousands of times and have yet to see it refuted. The official teaching of the catholic church is that being gay has no bearing on whether or not you go to heaven, and indeed we are taught to love all humans regardless of their sexual orientation, as we are all children of God. Secondly - Opus dei doesn't condone self-mutilation. It's heartening to know that watching a fictional novel can tell you all you need to know about the organization.

Tell me, when did I ever say that? Please, quote my post, right here. All I've said was that I think the team is getting better, and I enjoy watching them more than I have the past. I also don't remember supporting the giguere trade, but he did manage to get rid of blake/toskala in it and I do think giguere has played better than toskala, though not well.
