I disagree that trying to reduce a very specific category of crime while ignoring all others is a reasonable goal. Say all hospitals in the world are tired of getting sued for malpractice during surgery. They all decide to stop having surgeries, and switch to herbal medicine. The number of wrongful deaths increases, so they are sued more. Hurray! The total amount of malpractice from botched surgeries is now zero, but the total amount the hospital faces is now higher than before, and the world is worse off for it. The problem with this analogy is that I haven't seen any evidence that removing guns actually increases crime. I don't expect gun control to do anything more than decrease gun crime. Criminals intent on committing crimes will use whatever weapon they can get their hands on, guns available or not. However, the more we restrict their weapon choices, the less effect their crimes can have. By that I mean a person is more likely to die from being shot then being stabbed.

How are you getting all of that for $1200???
  3. This. It's really the same everywhere. Canada's been incredibly lucky that we haven't had a terrorist attack on our soil since the 70's, and that was internal. (not counting Air India in the 80's, since that wasn't in Canada). Still, they catch terrorists every few years here, and I won't be at all surprised if sooner or later something actually happens.

How is the particular implement used to commit a crime in any way relevant to a discussion of gun availability? It doesn't matter if you are shot or stabbed, you are still dead. It's completely relevant - your graph shows violent crime rates making no mention of guns whatsoever. Felix's graphs show quite clearly that gun related offenses are far higher in the US then they are anywhere else, which is data relevant to the current topic. http://upload.wikime...desbyweapon.svg http://www.cdc.gov/m...es/00001168.gif Reposted his links. Relevant to the current topic only if one somehow holds crimes where a gun was used to be worse then other identical crimes without such an object - which is irrational, since it implies fear of the object itself. What is relevant is overall crime statistics; which show that no connection between guns and crime likely exists since many of those countries without guns report high rates of similarly violent crime, in the form of stabbings and similar such things. I never came close to stating that firearm related crime supersedes criminal offenses perpetrated with other weapons in severity. While it may be true that gun control doesn't much reduce crime, it certainly reduces gun crime, which to me is fulfillment of its reasonable goal in the first place.
  5. That's why I don't like XFX, they're pretty low quality and I've seen multiple of them fry for no reason on some of my friends. Ahh well, I'll know for next time I suppose. And now my hd is making funny noises :(
  6. I realize that - but they can be read by a site for tracking purposes, which is what I said. For example, if you set a cookie when a user visits page A, page B can check to see if the user has visited page A first ( cookie exists). Thus the cookie isn't reporting anything but since it can be read it's the same thing.

  8. WTF MANG saw him last year his voice was epix! anyway my choice would be: perfection. He's still good but nothing like he once was :P
  9. The cookie you demonstrated is technically a tracking cookie :P Anyway, like anything on the internet, there is good and bad. Trying to use the internet with cookies disabled greatly hinders your experience. Not really tracking cookies are ones tht report data about where you've browsed etc back to the website. Plain cookie just tells website where its scripts, media etc has been cached on the users system There's no difference between the actual cookie, but its function is where the tracking distinction occurs. For example, runescape.com uses a tracking cookie - to track whether the user has visited the site before. Cookies are also used for persistent logins, and to store settings. (for example this forum uses a cookie to remember if you want the sidebar minimized or not)

As others have said, there's a difference between violent crime and gun crime.

  12. Locking as there appears to be a duplicate thread.
  13. We are only freeing up names of old accounts that have zero posts and we're not actually deleting any accounts ;) What if the user's post count displays as having made 6 posts, but it appears all the posts are gone (as in, when viewing their profile it says "There are no posts to display" under the topics and posts tab)? Those posts are probably not gone, but just so long ago that the search feature won't find them. I'd say that kind of thing is really on a case by case basic - try pming an admin.
  14. So don't go on those sites then, don't do a blanket ban on all cookies.
  15. Lol pallies :P I'm still indecisive about playing again....once I get my graphics card sorted out I may resubscribe.
  16. Please include a link to the declaration, then I can award the points :)
  17. Aww :( I hadn't heard about this.
  18. Yeah I get 20-30, with trilinear filtering on. I opened a support ticket with xfx, I'll keep this updated.
  19. This. Cookies are harmless. Just don't go on sketchy sites.
  20. Works fine for me. Try clearing your cache and a different browser.
  21. Glad you posted this here. Already posted on your forum topic, so all that's left to say is RIP, a truly unique clan.
  22. Ok, I tried the new PSU. It worked the same(still messed up) I'm pretty sure it's my gpu at this point, as i'm getting 25 fps in tf2, 15-20 in rs, and like 10 in furmark. Updated all the drivers afaik and still problems. And @Joe - getting bluescreen now after furmark runs for 10 seconds or so.

Ahh, I thought you meant this. Because that's the way society functions - we use a justice system that doesn't rely on spur of the moment impulse and gives everyone a fair trial. You'd have to look at per capita - I don't have stats on hand but I doubt they're anything but higher in America. Your last sentence makes no sense - if this was the case why has it never happened?
