That's not slander, that is opinion. thats definetely slander, unless you have some evidence that supports it. definition, slander--a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report. an opinion is something like "spinach tastes bad".

its not okay for a hating group to burn flags because its not okay for them to be spewing hate speech in the first place and if you see nothing wrongs with groups that express racism and hatred you need to reevaluate your beliefs

Going to be so tricky to post this without sounding racist but... Has anyone else in America noticed that the message that hating blacks is bad gets sent to us at a non stop rate. I fully realize europeans have screwed over pretty much everyone else throughout history, and that we should cover this stuff so it doesnt happen again. In history we linger forever on the fact that slavery is bad, in english half the books we read are about tolerance. Of course these are good messages that should be taught, but if you dont get that racism is bad by high school you arent going to get it. The idea of a month for each continent sounds great except that we should already be getting our world history education in history class.

But free-speech is the right to protest. It's much the same as along the lines of the KKK or Black Panther (do they still meet? Not sure...) meetings. It incites hatred and anger, but as you can see, people believe these organizations should be barred from meeting. there is a key difference between klan meetings and flag burnings burning a flag should be legal because in and of itself is not hate speech, flag burnings at rallies for the klan black panthers or whatever would be illegal because their message is hatred. I dont want to restrict free speech, just hate speech because hate speech infringes on other people's rights.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but which person's perspective is correct? Who are we to judge whether a suicide bomber or a trained soldier is right? Our beliefs on war in different cultures are very different and to say that they are wrong because they fight different than us is quite ignorant. I highly encourage you to watch the movie The Kingdom to better understand my point. You do realize that the specific post said a suicide bomber that put a bomb on a child right? I am willing to say suicide bombers themselves could be justified if they are attacking military targets, but it is pretty disgusting that you would say using children as bombs is just a difference of culture

you do realize that most speculation over the next world war starting is because of Russia acting in an aggressive manner? Check the recent story about georgia and the threats against poland and you will see Russia is very unreliable right now my main concern if a war does break out or not is if it goes nuclear. If it stays a "conventional" war then I will most likely end up involved in the fighting or in some way involved with the conflict(learning to build something army needs or whatever). Yes. What makes you think I condone the Black Panthers any more than the KKK? I just make it a point to bring it up anytime the KKK is brought up, anywhere. You'd be surprised how many people don't know about them. thats because they dont have as much historical notoriety, they are just as bad though.

That's utter crap. I respect it hurts but you'll never understand what living in a minority actually means with groups like the KKK spreading derogatory lies about you, your family and your race. You'll never be denied equal opportunity to a white man because people still hold racist views for being patriotic to the American flag. Groups like the KKK reinforce those views. That's why they need 'special treatment', so to speak. People speak out against Sharia Law, yet Muslims are a minority, and people such as myself who believe action should be taken against groups like the KKK and hate crimes have no problems with people speaking out against Sharia Law. The issue is what is the consequence of a person's actions - an issue society seems ever more reluctant to deal with. If I went to America and set an American flag alight, I would accomplish nothing and I would influence very little people. If I went outside and spread vicious lies about black people, that would have an effect. Burning a flag means nothing, as many have said. Spreading malicious comments does mean something, and has a tangible effect. so completely accurate, the only thing I would say is to ammend that to burning a flag means nothing by itself. Burning flags is ignorance the klan is hatred, I will protect ignorance even if it does offend me, hatred does not deserve such protection edit--I didnt say i was going to go harass anyone i said what if i stand on the public street without blocking traffic simply talking, thats exactly the same thing as the klan holding a public meeting

I think you must be confused on the actual definition on liberal. In the context of this debate, you are the liberal, since you support the individual liberty to carry a gun; I'm the one saying guns should be outlawed, thus I'm the authoritarian. Your generalisations have gone beyond ignorant - they've actually become quite amusing. hes thinking of the American definition of liberal which has come to mean anyone in the democratic party. whoever said teachers should have unloaded guns with the ammo locked in a safe is very mistaken. I dont even agree with putting guns in schools, I wouldnt fight the law if it was passed should be a by school district thing though. What is the purpose of giving the teacher a gun if it wont be useable in any situation? Do you think the school shooter will walk in and say okay everybody go load up ill give you 5 minutes? and yes guns were designed to inflict harm more efficiently, or of course to act as a hole puncher at long distances :lol: . But honestly does it not seem at least reasonable that some people would want a "killing machine" in case someone trys to use a "killing machine" on them? I mean sure the police SHOULD be able to prevent anything but if im walking down the street and someone 10 feet away pulls out a gun im going to stand a better chance pulling out a gun to be equal then grabbing a cell phone and hoping the cops are really fast. gun bans will not work UNLESS there are few or no guns in the area to start with. No matter what you do criminal organizations will find guns but if you have an area clean of guns to start with a ban will limit the flow to individuals that want to commit crimes.

I am saying that all hate speech should not be protected, which would quite clearly include protests at funerals. To whoever is saying the klan isnt violent anymore you know you are full of it. Sure they dont go out in their ghost outfits in burn crosses that doesnt mean they arent doing anything. For one their agenda by itself is encouraging violence so they are responsible for plenty of random hate crimes. in 2006 half of the approximately 10000 hate crimes in America were racially motivated, try to convince me the klan didnt have anything to do with at least one of those I wonder if all you people defending the klan would say I have the right to set up a protest on the street in front of your house saying you dont deserve the right to live where you are. having the meetings in public is attempting to insite violence because they intend to cause violence. No its not legal for the people to attack them but its also not legal for them to hold their meeting in public when they want it to cause violent action\ you accuse me of saying I want to stop anything disruptive, thats interesting considering I am clearly stating that flag burning by itself should be legal when it is disruptive. kenshin--people burn flags in public because they want to show passion for their cause whatever it may be. Certainly many cases of flag burning should be just as illegal as the klan meetings, I think anyone burning the flag of their country is an idiot but they have the right to do it. for the record you do realize you are defending a hateful organization? please explain to me why their meetings need to be held in public because it is blatently apparent they try to cause disruption by having meetings in such a manner edit-- also by having meetings in public they are hoping to incite violence therefore placing them in violation of the law

you and a few friends is not a group with principles based on hatred having a meeting with intent to harass. kenshin--yes burning a flag can have the intention of hurting others as I have said in explaining why it should be legal unless it is accompanied by hate speech. actually i did not say America was a democracy simply that we have democracy which is a government in which the people retain power clearly any group with principles based on hatred having a meeting in public has intentions of harrassmant lets not play games here

Yes, they do have the right to hate whomever they want, by them publicaly speaking they are harrasing those whom they dont like. Now before you say people who would be offended could just avoid it they would still be suffering from harassmant because they are now being prevented from entering that area. this is a very tricky question. I will say that it is impossible to truly answer this, the only line I can see is that anything that encourages blind hatred and anger should be banned. It would also be wise to always lean on the base of allowing speech instead of banning. If some guys want to talk about a government system that would be better then what we have now we should allow it even if it sounds ubsurb(anyone catch my reference to democracy in America here).

I don't have a problem with the government banning hate speech, but don't you think it's unfair to not give protection to the KKK? There are religions out there tha thate people from others... What you're saying is that should be banned too. And so should athiests, as they hate god. That's hate too isn't it? You kinda locked yourself up by saying that hate speech and hating should be banned. What makes the KKK deserve protection? Before you say they have the right to assemble consider that they are trying to prevent the pursuit of happiness by non white persons which nulls their rights. The KKK and whatever religions you are refferencing have the right to hate whoever they want and say whatever they want in their buildings of assemblege but do not have the right to disrupt the public with it. Who says that athiests hate god? I mean im sure their are some that claim they do but that means they hate something that they claim doesnt exist. If I was an atheist I woudl imagine your statement that atheists hate god is pretty offensive. just to note god isnt capitalized in my writing there because it is not referencing any general or specific god just the concept of god in general edit--magekiller, thats sounds about right. I personally hate cold blooded murders and rapists this has a base in the fact that they have wronged other people.

Im starting to like the taser idea if this restriction is put in place, the teacher is only to use the taser if the student has a weapon of any kind or is actively assaulting another student/faculty. Finally, we should make sure that the tasers used are at a lower voltage, high enough to disable anyone but very unlikely to cause fatalities unless there is a prexisting condition edit--i had insulting instead of assaulting(that would be bad if anyone using insults was getting zapped lol)

the government shouldnt decide what we can argue about the government should say you arent allow to spew hateful rhetoric. If you have a problem with the government banning hate speech then you are no better then those that are speaking it now to try to pull this on topic flag burning is an extreme form of protest, it should not be illegal by itself but should be illegal when used with hate speech. If you are going to burn a flag you should have a pretty good reason not something dumb like protesting a tax increase.
