  1. I'm glad to see that you didn't disappoint me. Although I'm a little shocked you didn't quote my line about your inevitable appearance. It is also why I said "seem", as in it could be different, but maybe not as noticeable. After all, I wasn't arguing it as a fact, just as an observation that the effects of the other stats don't seem to be as apparent as the increase in max hit. Also, your example plays a big part with extremes. Obviously when you look at the extreme opposites of the spectrum, you get a clear-cut difference. When you play a little closer to the middle, though, things get a little more fuzzy.
  2. You'd think that, but you'd be surprised how often it seems to fail to matter.
  3. I'm a person who enjoys having a balanced character, however it seems redundant to train def and atk. Why? Well, it seems like strength is the only melee stat that has a visible effect on combat. When using a weapon to train different styles, they have different descriptions. Attack xp is usually denoted by "accurate", so as my attack goes up, I should see less 0s, right? But it doesn't seem to do that. As with defence, I had noticed certain monsters having a max hit listed in the Bestiary, regardless of your defence level. Shouldn't a high defence have a clearly visible reduction to something's max hit? In an example, let's say 2 players face off head to head. Both have the same attack level, but the one has 75 str and 25 def, while the other has 75 def and 25 str. The one with the higher str level will probably win, because they'll hit harder, even though it should, in theory, be even. I'm sure that compfreak will probably come along and post the detailed stats, tho.
  4. Considering the full helm's price and the fact that only 1 monster currently drops it, it's easy for people to put it aside as one of those "only in my dreams" type item. At least the D chain can rarely be dropped by Dust Devils aside from KQ. Perhaps the prices and rarity of most items were to try to stall off many people from having a full set while they developed the other pieces? As for the leg protection, D Skirt has same stats as the platelegs, but is about 1/6 the price. Overall, the ratio of players to Jagex staff is a bit staggering, so when a nice chunk of those player have nothing better in armor, a number of them start demanding it. It's not unreasonable for Jagex to get forced into putting a few things on the back-burner. Only time will tell the future, but a lot of their behind-the-scenes previews seem to be focused on other things...
  5. The argument on stats is all dependent on playing style. While Verac's offers little in the way of actual defense, it is the only Barrows set which includes bonus to Prayer. When you run low on food and health, your protection prayers can last a lot longer with Verac's. On the other hand, outright defense might be what most people go for and in that case, dharok's would be an advantage. As far as Bandos, it might not entirely be about the defense properties, so much as the bragging rights and show-off aspect. After all, it's one of those expensive items that actually serve a purpose, unlike party hats or Halloween masks. Or even better, shows off their ability to take on the God Wars Dungeon. Keep in mind, pride is one of the ever-present factors in RuneScape, and sometimes can be the cause of many an argument.
  6. The whole point of Runescape is to offer variety. Just because people play different ways, doesn't mean that none of them are accepted. And there's no "forcing" involved. If you WANT the ring, then you do the quest, but it's not mandatory to have the ring in the first place. To be honest, it seems people get too wrapped up in their own concepts of pride to allow themselves to fully enjoy the game, otherwise. For me, it's easy to have fun, because I don't mind doing a little of everything. The way I see it, it's just Jagex's way of trying to entice people to experience different aspects of the game.
  7. What's not to love about free mage xp? But I also hate when people leave when they are being hunted. Only time I ever leave FoG in the middle of a game is when either Firefox or my internet decide to take a break on me and leave me being forced out. This unfortunately only seems to happen in cases where I would end up with a big victory and a nice amount of tokens. I understand that a few free tokens are of little comfort when all you want to do is completely annihilate your opponent. This is assuming two things: 1) you have high enough mage to cast ice barrage and 2) you are playing on p2p. After 1 trip to p2p FoG, I realized that the only way to win for me was to go f2p. It's worked for me well enough so far.
  8. Point taken, the formula is pretty easy, provided that you actually know the formula. My guess is that many run-of-the-mill players aren't going to know that, however, leading into the confusion behind many of the arguments I had made. I was unaware of the d2h special being multi-target. Though the only person I know who has one is my wife, and the only multi-combat zone I had ever seen it used in was the Stronghold of Player Safety on Cockroach Soldiers, not usually an enemy to get into a cluster. As for the Dragon Halberd, who can think of Underground Pass as a fun quest? I still need to finish Regicide, I believe I'm still running a bit shy on the agility requirement. While the d2h may not have a quest requirement, a near 2 mil price tag doesn't exactly leave it as commonplace, and the attack speed leaves a little something to be desired for overall effectiveness. I suppose all-in-all, there is a degree of balance, though mage could still use some work. The main reason behind my points was to try to provide a more acceptable argument than the whole "you just say range owns, everything else sucks" which is probably slowly draining support for an otherwise somewhat valid argument.
  9. It is the Rants forum, designed for you to blow off steam, which then leads to people seeing what makes you mad, getting offended, and venting a little steam of their own. When people can hear what you have to say, they can put in their two cents. As far as simplistic solutions go, see how rationally you think when you get pissed off. Rage = the blinders to reason. As far as the original post goes: Didn't you make mention of being called a noob even when you were winning?
  10. To put it more to the point: Compfreak has been adding constructive criticism. Regardless of anyone's original intention in creating a topic, there are two sides to every topic and trying to keep one side from being voiced is never going to work. So if you keep trying to attack CompFreak, whose posts have had valid factual information presented as a counter-point to your topic, in a highly opinion-based fashion, you will sound more and more like a child throwing a temper tantrum because he's not winning. Now, there are a few things that I've noticed that agitate me a bit as far as rangers go. I came across a lvl 77 ranger whilst on a slayer task to kill basilisks. I had found out that his strength and range levels were both over 80 from a conversation he had with another ranger, higher than me on both counts, however my combat level was still 13 levels higher. Where I became upset was with the difference in our max hits. He was hitting a max of 25, based off of my observations, whilst my own was a mere 17. Granted that there's a 10 level difference in our strength, but at a lower level, he was hitting harder than me. In most cases, you can find this to be true depending on which combat skills the person's combat level is based off of. However, where it seems to be imbalanced is that there is only a lvl 40 defense requirement for d'hide. Rangers being able to use distance and obstacles to their advantage, seem to be able to become powerful without needing to build as many skills as someone who uses melee. What's more is that I have yet to see my range (or magic) level affect my overall combat level. It leads to having people lower level than myself being able to get a power trip because they can hit harder than I can from a lower level. While there was none of this occurring during the aforementioned scenario, it has occurred in the past, namely at the Blue Drags at the Taverly Member's Dungeon. I got a nice bombardment of flaming from a level 56 who was ranging the adult dragons. The only thing that kept me from losing my cool was watching him get forced to teleport because of the baby dragons. Another facet of range(and magic) that irritates me is that there are tools that allow them to target multiple foes at once. This is of course is in reference to the dwarf cannon, which seems to be an overly easy way to boost a range level. The largest advantage to the cannon is that its max hit doesn't seem to be related in any way to any skill. I admit that I have used a cannon before and have since sold it. However, at the time I had it, I don't think I had any stat above 60 and was able to score hits of 25 with the cannon. Mages also have access to multi-target spells, the most preferred being ice barrage. Although this requires a high level and expensive runes. I understand that the cannon also has a high cost, but doesn't really have a level requirement that I'm aware of. I would at least feel comforted if there was a melee weapon with a whirlwind style special, that attacked all the surrounding enemies when in a multi-combat area. Currently I am unaware of any such weapon, which leaves melee without much to get an edge in multi-combat.
  11. The biggest problem I have with the constant argument that there's Bandos and Barrows, making a dragon platebody useless is this: Not everyone on RS has over 70 defense. It's like saying that there's no point in having mithril or adamant because Rune exists, even though you still need to get the levels up to have access to full Rune. While many of the people who use this forum may have all the level requirements for the better armor, I still have 67 defense, which means I still need some levels before I can use my Verac equipment. So while it wouldn't be an improvement in any way over Bandos or Barrows, it would still be better than rune and granite, just like any of the other dragon equipment.

    Slayer.

I now realize that slayer is NOT about variety. The fact that different methods/equipment work on different creatures still revolves around Slayer's main concept: KILLING STUFF! Regardless of what your assigned target is, the goal is to kill a specific number of a specific creature then report back to get a new assignment to kill a specific number of a specific creature. The cycle, as with most skills in RuneScape, has a certain level of monotony to it. However, the only way to get better at something is to keep doing it, right? So in the end, there's nothing to really be done about it. Also, if you don't like the assignment you got, there's a chance Turael will change it for you \

    Slayer.

I'll admit that Slayer tasks can be annoying or somewhat tedious, however I prefer to look at it as a way to train my stats. For instance, I got assigned a task of 115 blue dragons. I figured that if I ranged them, I could cut down or eliminate the food used for more kills. I ended up going up about 7 range levels by the end of it. The only thing that was mentioned to me was that green drags were better to train on, to which I simply replied that the blues were my slayer task and no more was said. As in all MMORPGs, you will have a handful of people who get a kick out of telling "noobs" a "better" way to train that gets them killed. So any advice is hit or miss and you can make of it what you will.

    Temp Mute

The amount of humor people have these days has dwindled so much. Try to make one little joke and you get flame-sprayed. Anyways, I acknowledge that Jagex does have a lot of skill, especially if you compare the high detail now to RS Classic. However, as far as rules go, sometimes misinterpretation occurs and mistakes are made. For instance, Jagex has a ridiculously difficult monster that's almost impossible to defeat, someone finds a way to take advantage of a weakness to bring it down, Jagex updates to kill new method.

The day Jagex develops common sense, the apocalypse shall occur. Such is the law of RuneScape.
  16. Indeed, rants are a place to vent about things that make you mad in Runescape. In this case, rangers. In doing so, people with their assortment of opinions and views comment on the subject. If you are saying that if you had it your way, all pro-range comments would be erased, then you are more along the lines of a cult. I may not always like the rangers I encounter, but I at times find use in the skill.
  17. I believe most of us had made some major mistakes. Personally, my worst KO experience was with Kamil during Desert Treasure. It seemed like the strategy I was trying to use had gone south. In the end, it turned into a double KO. He died, but had cast one last spell to finish me off at the same time >_<. You live and learn, though. I too almost died my first time at Barrows. Had killed all the brothers, used up all my ppots and food, and kept getting attacked by tomb spiders every time I tried the door to the chest. All in all, I was lucky, but I'll take it.
  18. I guess it comes down to how long I've been playing as to where my main opinion comes from. As I've been playing for only a few months now, I never really got the first-hand experience of the timeline of dragon equipment releases. As far as other dragon weapons, I'm not exactly sure which ones still don't exist. It seems like most of them are already available, unless that extends to a lack of a dragon kiteshield, though there still is the square shield. As far as not being a rant, I understand. For the most part though, it's just something that annoys me as I find less and less equipment that I really aim to have, even though I still don't have all the levels to use some of the gear that I actually have in my bank. So for the most part, I guess my real complaint is that I'm starting to lose that drive one gets to get up to the next level, because I'm slowly running out of them. At least for melee, anyways.
  19. Much as I love a good political debate, it seems rather off-topic, so let's get back on track Well, here's where I think the main argument should be: Combat Triangle Melee beats Range: Melee armor has high defense against range, making it easier to survive the arrow volley required to get up close and personal. Range beats Mage: Range armor provides excellent magic protection, and no worries on distance from foe for the kill. Mage gets pwned by anything: Magic armor does little to protect you from anything. The only reason it gets an edge on melee is due to melee gear's magic defense penalties. The only things to save a mage from meeting their doom is ice spells. I love mage, but in most pvp situations, it seems that it would do little to actually live up to its part of the combat triangle.
  20. I suppose my subject may well say it all. I can completely understand how many people may find this argument from someone without a dragon chainbody to be... pointless. However, my main reason for this is that it is pretty much the only armor set that doesn't include a platebody. It DOES have a full helm, which I remember how stupid I felt wearing a rune full helm with a chain body. It's expensive, and with the rest of the dragon armor available, leaves a little something to be desired. I feel this is due to the lack of a platebody, which may do something to add to an overall more intimidating look to the armor. However, given the intelligent thought process behind much of what Jagex does, I'm not hopeful for this ever coming to be.
  21. Then don't expect, just watch. If you open a can of worms, but don't like what you see, remember, your still the one that opened it. Any hot-button issue will usually bring about a myriad of opinions. In my opinion, PvP worlds ruined the wild on non-pvp worlds. The return of pvp motivated the return of the teleport block spell, a new personal favorite for revs. So even though I'm not big on pvp worlds and don't really go to them, I can still be a victim because now it's even harder to survive a rev attack in deep wilderness. Which I found to be an unbearable pain whilst trying to get my ghostly robes. It wouldn't be so bad if it was just spell book teleports, but it includes jewelery and levers as well.
  22. Well, as much as there are points for you to hate about rangers, there are also some points that can be considered as a weak point for rangers, that make it a bit of a plight for them at times. Being that you are pure F2P, you may not understand the example that I am about to make, as it refers to a P2P area. Rangers that I see in the Taverly Member's Dungeon training on/ killing blue dragons can often get their target stolen away if they start getting attacked by a baby. Safe spots for a ranger that provide protection from adults and babies are few and I have occasionally seen requests for food from rangers, whose armor does little to save them from the babies' melee attacks. Another thing to consider is cost. With the exception of Barrows, any melee gear is a one-time cost for permanent use. For mages and rangers, they may have one permanent fixture (bow or staff) but still require ammo (arrows or runes) for it to work. I understand that you can argue that that's what runecrafting and fletching are for, but not everyone chooses to train those skills, and just like smithing, it can take a long time before you get to the more useful equipment.
  23. Well, I'm not sure all the particular details, but he said it was for mentioning a specific video on his YouTube channel. He also had said that I was the one to have reported him, so I'm not sure how accurate any of his information is. We've probably broken a few rules in clan chat, but none of us had ever reported the others.
  24. I fully understand that RS is geared towards children and an overall younger audience than myself. However, I still get overly annoyed when I try to use words that I don't really consider swear words and they get censored. Besides which, people who really wanna swear know ways around having their message getting converted into *****. Another thing that annoys me greatly is the rule against promoting websites. For the most part, I understand why it was conceived, having seen spammers standing at the GE telling people to go to some site or other 20 million times. Where I get irked is in trying to be of some aid to someone who asks me for help on a quest I had completed long enough ago to forget the fine details. The worst part of it all is some of the random censoring, which may or may not have been eliminated in an update. This refers to words that would be partially *****ed and some things that used to just make me scratch my head in puzzlement such as a "d" by itself being * unless there is an apostrophe immediately following it. All in all, I feel that it just leads to having people get muted for no real reason. The policy Jagex has is to add someone who is annoying you to your ignore list. However, I find that I'm usually not thinking "You gosh-darned jerk, I'm gonna add you to my ignore list". It's usually more of an explicative-filled tirade that would lead me to getting muted. Fortunately enough I haven't been muted... yet. However, I know of a friend who got muted for talking about YouTube in clan chat, I'm still not sure if he has accepted that I did NOT report him. I think I'll find myself using the Rants a lot more in my RS career, so hopefully people can suffer my short temper expressed through the powerful medium of words
  25. You know this reminds me of another common occurrence as far as player to player trash-talking: Focus on one skill. I notice often that when I'm training in a populated area, I get asked a specific lvl, like strength. When I reply, they usually laugh and then proudly state that theirs is about 10 lvls higher while their combat lvl is about 6 lvls lower. Meanwhile my atk and def are higher. Personally, my hat's off to anyone with a skillcape. As far as I'm concerned, quest skillcapes are at the top considering the plethora of diverse lvls required to get one, as well as the need to survive a lvl 700+ for Summer's End. In the long run, though, people fail to care about all the details. It's a basic instinct to make a preliminary opinion and stick with it.
