I'm not sure why people feel like writing long posts on this thread when they don't really know what they're talking about. I have always enjoyed playing RuneScape although Jagex has made many mistakes. Rather, the most important reason for my stopping playing, by far, is that I wanted to spend more time on other things. Not that I wasn't doing other things already- my long term average playing time was just over six hours a day, not the 10+ many people seem to think- and remember that includes weekends, breaks, summers, as well as time spent playing without paying much attention while doing something else, like homework. But I quit because I wanted to spend more time on things I'm interested in, like learning computer programming, rather than just playing a game than in the end doesn't matter. And no, I don't want to be a games programmer- there's so much more you can do with computers than that. It saddens me that people like Drumgun would pass off my leaving as "not being able to keep up playing efficiently" or similar rather than realize that RuneScape is a computer game. I also see that some people can't handle the fact that I have videos and are unable to think for themselves and consume media critically. Some of my videos show skilling methods that I used significantly and some do not. A 2 minute video may or may not accurately reflect training over a longer period, and a 2 minute animated talking Lego person video may carry a message but may mostly be for fun. I think Aribiterspar really hit the nail on the head when he said "theres a big difference between doing everything max possible all the time or just making efficient training decisions that decrease the time it takes to get things done". In any case, if anyone has any questions about how I actually trained skills or how I felt about various game updates or something, you are welcome to ask me on my YouTube channel and I will probably answer if you are mature and respectful. (Eventually I will check my channel less and less often though). Anyway, I think that everyone should really take a step back and consider if there is something else that you could be spending more time on rather than playing RuneScape. There's a lot more to life than computer games. Even if you only play for a short time each day the same applies- what else could you be doing?

Lol what's up with these bs effigy rates? For mutated bloodvelds I've gotten 17 effigies in 14286 kills (1 per 840 kills) and for black demons I've gotten 22 effigies in 12622 kills (1 per 574 kills). That's 1 per 2.0 hours at mutated bloodvelds and 1.9 hours at black demons ON TASK. I always check the A log so I don't miss any, even if I miss them ingame (which extremely rarely happens.)

Well someone told me I would think this thread is funny, so I read some of it. And it IS funny... you guys act like you're talking about a dog race or something, lol. It isn't necessarily your business what others are doing, what they aren't doing, or what you think they're doing but really aren't. The calculations that Arcane posted were interesting, however- they really show how much easier RS is becoming.

As Lucipher6 was banned unjustly, clearly the system is not 100% accurate. Therefore, appeals definitely should be allowed. Lucipher was able to get a mod looking at his account quickly by having a friend post in the maxed forum, but of course not everyone has that luxury. He was NOT macroing and this is not a "second chance"; this was a mistake by Jagex and never should have been banned in the first place. Also although maybe it sounds good for everyone to have an equal chance, it just doesn't seem right for Jagex to put as much thought into banning the rank 3 in RuneScape as into banning a level 3 in basic clothes chopping a yew tree.

High ranking players not as "nerdy" as we think?
Zarfot replied to FirenLazah's topic in General Discussion
I take it that you are implying it would take much longer. At 75+ you can do a run with magics, palms, and calquats in about 10 minutes and get about 130k xp which would be 13m xp in under 17 hours. 40 hours is a much more conservative estimate for 1-99 that I intended to take into account going from 1-75 with lower leveled trees, maybe growing yews instead of magics afterwards, and maybe farming herbs for cash. And buying the seeds, setting up your bank to do farming runs, figuring out how to do farming runs quickly, and making saplings. If you're one of those people who like to look at palms taking 20 hours to grow or whatever and count that as 20 hours of training maybe you should use your head and think about how much time you actually spend training. -

Oh so anyone who puts thought into a post is a nerd? Btw if you had actually read my post you would know that I copied half of it from somewhere else (something I wrote months ago). -

I am Zarfot and am rank 21 overall. I posted this a while ago somewhere else regarding how long 2376 total could take training very efficiently. Slayer with stats 1-99 could average about 22k xp/hour = 600 hours total which would max 7 skills. 12M agility is needed because 1M comes from barbarian fishing which is 220 hours at DK. You can fletch adamant bolts while training agility and could get 30M fletching xp from this without losing much agility time at all. 13M mining could be done at 60k xp/hour average = 220 hours. 13M prayer could be done in 40 hours with dragon bones. 13M herblore could be done in 40 hours with brews. 13M magic and smithing could be done in 130 hours superheating gold. 13M crafting could be done in 60 hours with hard leather bodies then green dragonhide bodies. 13M construction could be done in 55 hours with oak doors. 91 Rc could be achieved in 150 hours with ZMI altar, and 99 could be done in 270 hours from then with 27k xp/hour with Graahk. 5M firemaking comes free from woodcutting with an inferno adze, and 8M can be done in about 30 hours with various logs. 13M woodcutting could be done in 200 hours at 65k xp/hour. 13M fishing could be done in 260 hours at 50k xp/hour average. 13M farming could be done in about 40 hours with trees. 2M cooking would come from fishing and 11M could be done in 40 hours with sharks. 13M hunter xp could be done in 130 hours at 100k xp/hour average. 13M thieving could be done in 70 hours blackjacking. Add 100 hours for quests and other things and you have 2655 hours. Graahk runecrafting would supply most of the cash for the expensive methods, the rest would be obtained via merchanting with almost no time loss which is quite easy currently. I think it's pretty clear that maxing is possible in well under 3000 hours which could be done in under 2.8 hours a day for 3 years. Personally it took me over 3 years to max. Granted, I got 30m xp in runecrafting and also 99 slayer twice (since summoning came out after I got 99 slayer), and also RS evolves and faster/better methods are released/discovered, so I'm not claiming that I averaged 2.8 hours a day, but this shows that people with maxed stats do not necessarily play as much as many people believe. Personally I am in school, in sports, play a musical instrument, and also work 6-10 hours a week. That keeps me very busy, more busy than most people tbh. However I chose to spend most of my free time on RS and that is my own choice. Playing RS for me does NOT affect what really matters- school, work, and sports- as those always get first priority. The reason I decided to try to quit was that I wanted to do other things with my free time besides just playing one game. However I just started playing another game so that is why I decided to go back to RS. Again, this is my FREE TIME and it is a person's own choice what they want to do with their free time. In my opinion people who do things like go do drugs or go to drinking parties during their free time are the ones who really should be picked on. RS is just a game and if someone wants to play it that's their choice. By the way I sleep about 8 hours a night and have never stayed up all night to play RS and very rarely play past midnight. -
Iron is the same speed at far lower cost. Uhh only if you're talking about magic xp. Good luck getting 100k+ smithing xp per hour superheating iron.

Very nice guide, and although I won't be using either method, these are almost certainly the fastest ways to train ranged and melee. I've never seen a really good guide to chinning that gets into the best spot and how to get the most xp per hour but this one does.

Wakka's Mousekeys Guide! LEARN TO DROP TWICE AS FAST!

Although you get randoms at Tai Bwo Wannai village, some people might prefer it to Ape Atoll when powercutting because there is a sound effect when cutting, so you can hear if you've stopped, and there are two spots with two trees you can cut without moving, instead of just one spot. I also remember collecting some data that the adze burned like 29.9% of the logs I cut, so I assumed it was exactly 30%. Are you sure it's less than that? You also said that cutting and burning teaks is the best overall method to train woodcutting and firemaking, but it would be faster xp to powercut teaks and then buy yew, eucalyptus, or magic logs and burn them. Although more expensive, that could be a better method for some people.

Nice tip. I wasn't aware of this method. However, it is misleading to say that you profit from alching if you crafted the natures; you actually are profiting from crafting the natures and then losing a little from alching, for an overall profit. The profit comes from the runecrafting, not the alching.

Firemaking isn't really tied to a spot if you are comfortable lighting fires in any direction. The Grand Exchange area is huge. -
How To Become A Master Thief: 1 - 99 Thieving Guide!
Zarfot replied to Neglexis's topic in Archive of Wisdom
I suggest you go back to bandits and try them again. They can be much faster than 60k xp per hour, and the rate increase hugely when you get 65 so you can blackjack Menaphites. Before 91, blackjacking can give far faster xp than is possible at Pyramid Plunder. Just because you may have had trouble with blackjacking doesn't mean you should recommend Pyramid Plunder to everyone. If you never can get blackjacking down, fine, but I think you should give it another try. -
Lol, I still think you should change the bit that says you were aiming for 100k+ xp per hour with the fast teak dropping. It is extremely unlikely to get 100k+ xp per hour even if you made absolutely no mistakes. Maybe you should time an hour of woodcutting with the method and put that in the guide instead. I'd give you one of mine but it's your guide and I figure you'd want to use your own xp rate. Also, it gets much easier if you drop more than 1 log at a time when you drop. If you do double drops, you will only have to drop once every 2.86 logs cut on average (since 30% are burnt). If you do triple drops, you will only have to drop once every 4.29 logs cut on average. If you're good enough to drop multiple logs consistently, you can just not pay much attention while your inventory fills up, and then empty your inventory.

The times are wrong. I'm guessing that when timing the speeds, you started the timer when you made the first hit and stopped it when you made the tenth hit. That is timing nine hits, not ten. The correct times are approximately 2.42, 3.03, 3.64, and 4.24 seconds.

this guide is about superheating mithril bars ;) Also, it is almost as fast as you can click, it is considerably faster than alching. Based on the title and introduction this a guide for superheating in general. Other than the picture of the mithril bar in the introduction there is no indication that the guide is only for superheating mithril bars. I never said that superheating is not considerably faster than alching. In fact, you can cast superheat item exactly 5 times in the same time as exactly 3 alches. If you don't want to put how long each cast takes in the guide and instead use a vague description that is not applicable for many people, fine, it's your guide.

Nice guide. I just light fires randomly all over the GE now lol. For a while I also fletched adamant bolts in between lighting fires which worked very well. Some people might have trouble with it though. -
Wakka's Mousekeys Guide! LEARN TO DROP TWICE AS FAST!
Zarfot replied to wakka102's topic in Archive of Wisdom
Nice guide. I find it easiest just to hold down Ctrl with the side of my hand, with the middle and index fingers on the 5 and 2. Unfortunately I've never been able to set up a jump distance that works for construction without changing the mouse pointer speed, but the mousekeys jump works great for dropping items. -
I use superheat item very often but this guide misrepresents it. The smithing xp is for the type of bar you are making, not always 30 xp. Unless you click incredibly slow the spell is not nearly as fast as you can click; the maximum speed is 1.8 seconds per bar (plus banking). I superheat gold and it is the fastest xp for superheating but it actually loses about 1M per hour for ~1800 bars. It is true that you can approximately break even with mith, adamant, or runite bars, but the guide should mention gold too.

Yeah I see now, but I think it's a little silly when people spam the thread by posting a pyramid of quotes and requotes and quotes of quotes of quotes, lol. I do browse TIF regularly and now that I have an account I might as well comment on some other threads when I feel like it, although I have no plans to post any threads here or be a very frequent user.

Thanks compfreak847; I still need to figure out exactly how quoting people works =P I'm not Qeltar and I've never seen videos of him obtaining xp rates so I do not know exactly why certain xp rates of his are lower than mine. I did see him ingame at a Waterfiends task a couple times but wasn't paying much attention to his speed, plus that's just one task. But probably the most simple advice to getting the maximum rates is to realize that saving tiny amounts of time adds up. Say, if you save just 3 game ticks (1.8 seconds) per monster on average, you would save 6 minutes on 200 monsters. Now let's say that reduces a 46 minute task to a 40 minute task. That would increase your kill rate from 260 monsters/hour to 300 monsters per hour which is 15% faster. How you save those little amounts of time is by attacking as continuously as you can, picking up drops between hits if possible to not lose time. A lot of people were discussing Dust Devils and it is indeed possible to complete a task of them at over 110k melee xp per hour rate with maxed stats, Piety, no combat familiar, and half of the room to yourself; when doing tasks of them I would go minutes at a time attacking constantly with whip, 2.4 seconds per swing. Attacking more than one Dust Devil at once may help as well. Obviously those numbers are just a quick example and I am not claiming that doing this magically makes every single task 15.0000000000000000000000% faster. I'm just saying that small amounts of time saved can make a large difference in the average xp rate.

Ravenkana, it is false to claim that "records" is synonomous with rates. I never state absolute maximums as if they are average rates. I did start this account today so I could reply on this rant, but I'm sure you would have done the the same if you were me. Previously I hadn't much interest in joining TIF since my threads are on RSOF and I think RSOF are great. However, it was quite annoying to read this thread where people are constantly quoting and misquoting from my guides and making whacky claims about me. I browse TIF from time to time and read through some threads but never have I seen such lengthy discussion about myself and so many false claims being made about myself and my guides. Is there anything wrong with defending rates that I have achieved and accurately timed? If you are implying that the very act of defending myself suggests that I am lying, I am interested to hear your logic. In this thread many people have stated their points of view about slayer and about my rates and I simply have posted my own opinion back. I also contributed my opinions towards the topic of the rant. It is silly to claim that my post was made purely to defend my claims.
-
(edit: two-eight-seven, lol). I'm very disappointed that so much of this thread has become debate and flaming about me. As far as I can remember, every slayer xp rate for a task given in my guide was timed for one task. However, in most cases I later timed additional tasks to try to beat my old xp rate. My goal is not to get the highest possible xp rate to put in the guide but rather find an average xp rate for me for that task. In any case, for me there were not large variations in xp rate from task to task. It is silly to claim that you need to kill some huge number of monsters to get a good average. A video of killing 18 dust devils should indeed be quite close to the average rate. Six minute tests of many skills are rarely off by 10, let alone 5 or less, percent. I never exaggerate any of my xp rates, period. It is very frustrating when people make ridiculous claims to the contrary. Most of my videos have actually been in response to challenges by people claiming that my xp rates are not possible. For example, Lucipher6, ranked rather high on the highscores, claimed that over 70k mining xp per hour was "complete bs" yet was somewhat silent when I posted a video that proved 75.4k is possible. I have had some quarrels ingame but usually the other person ends up apologizing to me. Why I would make up xp rates just to get famous is beyond me; surely I would have posted a bank video and skillcape emote video by now if I wanted more attention? I saw someone claim that I concentrate 100% of the time. How that would be possible while maintaining three large guides, a Youtube account, an agility guild, and formerly a Goal thread, I don't know. How I would be posting on this forum if I was really concentrating 100% of the time, I don't know. In reality, while slaying, I was almost always multitasking to help pass the time. Alt-tab is a great keyboard shortcut, by the way. Whether I listen to RuneScape music or not has nothing to do with the topic of this thread and how someone would know what I listen to just based on a few videos that I let the RuneScape music play on, I don't know. (In reality I listen to other music the majority of the time.) Just because none of the several people debating here has achieved certain xp rates I have gotten doesn't mean they are unreachable for anyone other than me. I have many friends ingame who achieve similar rates. Many times I have found myself challenged to achieve an xp rate that someone I know has achieved. The 70k melee xp per hour on average I stated in the guide should be fairly accurate for someone slaying using fast methods; however, I did not acquire that number with an actual long-term test with that piece of data in mind but rather with some estimation. If anything it may be a bit low; I may actually have been getting closer to 80k. And just because I'm stating some xp rate doesn't mean the "average" person gets 50% of that or whatever. If you're that slow at slayer I think 110k melee xp/hour at Zombie Monkeys is very questionable. In response to the topic of the thread, I'd hesitate to post real calculations because someone would instantly dismiss them as wrong because supposedly I pay 100% attention or have 2306236 bill cash or whatever. I'm sure that everyone would agree that slayer is a skill, however, and to train it you also get xp in melee, range, hitpoints, and get charms. If you are going to have to train slayer anyway, say for a total level goal, why train those other skills using other methods? Only in the case that someone sees slayer xp as worthless or near worthless would it be debatable that slayer is not worth it. I do not think it is reasonable to label xp in any skill as worthless, however. So what if you won't end up camping at some high level slayer monster to make cash? Not everything is about money. If all that matters is how "useful" a skill is, why would ANYONE train cooking, crafting, construction, agility, herblore, thieving, fletching, smithing, firemaking, woodcutting, and maybe other skills too depending on your opinions, since all of those are generally poor moneymakers compared to other parts of the game? What is money good for anyway; to train more skills or to make more money? In my opinion, the value of xp in a skill should not be assessed only by how useful the skill is. If you train slayer, every hour of slayer training is shown on the highscores in your slayer xp, but all that other xp may be considered just extra. Obviously training continuously at Monkey Zombies is much faster melee xp than training slayer. Obviously killing Waterfiends or Bursting/Barraging Rock Lobsters is much faster summoning xp than training slayer. Obviously you could make more money killing Aviansies or the God Wars Dungeon bosses than by training slayer. You probably could get almost as fast melee xp and way more summoning xp by meleeing waterfiends instead of training slayer. But none of those get faster slayer xp than training slayer. It's as simple as that and whether you agree with that or not is as simple as whether you think gaining xp in skills that are not necessarily "useful" is valuable or not. Arguing about as fundamental a belief as that is silly. It's also silly to argue about xp rates that have been proven to be possible and to discredit someone who has repeatedly proven xp rates when challenged.
