  3. Didn't do Six Flags but we had had some food and went around Atlanta. I think it went really well. We'll see if there's a third date. I'm hoping we go to Charlotte / Carowinds and grab dinner. It'd be cool to be the one doing the showing around.

Awesome way to start the day: Video tutorial. Will pop up after the initial banter. Can quickly dismiss it, view the videos, and/or read the text.

Good luck, Tess! Of my family, only my brother knows I'm non-binary. The rest will take it poorly at best. Hope it works out better for you! ... Yesterday my game turned 1 year old. Wow.

Leaving for Florida in a couple hours! So excited to see Muse on Sunday. They're my favorite band. :D

I love how this looks: (How is that for lighting and color, Hedgehog? :D) The pirates look pretty good too (they're not visible in the screenshot): I'm changing up the tutorial. You'll start on a ship heading to Isabelle Island boarded by pirates. You'll have to fight the pirates (you can't die, the pirates will hit zeros). Upon defeating the pirates, Cthulhu will rise out of the water in the distance. It'll summon squids and tentacles to sink the ships. You wake up on Isabelle Island in the guest room and it's fundamentally similar from there on. I hope the "cinematic experience" will help get players interested. I'll also have hints that explain combat as you fight since that's a major problem. That and the improved gatekeeping during the tutorial should help out a lot. Thanks, analytics!

  10. This isn't so much asking for advice as it is an update of sorts. So I went on a date Sunday with a smart, interesting, motivated, and beautiful girl. She's the only one besides K1 (a guy I dated in April/May of last year) I've felt anything for. The downside is she lives about 5 hours away. We both have good careers and similar educational backgrounds (she has a BS in CS). I'm planning on telling her I'll be visiting Six Flags and am wondering if she'd like to come along. She goes to Six Flags a lot and likes rollercoasters/thrill rides so I think it's a good potential second date IMO. So we'll see... She could ghost me in the mean time or simply not be interested, but who knows. I'm trying to stay on the side of cautious optimism. If it doesn't work out well I'll keep going to the gym and be in Raleigh next year so [bleep] it lol.

My landlady is going to replace the carpet with laminated hardwood. Yeeeeeeeah. ... I talked to my boss today about the possibility of telecommuting. He seemed cautiously receptive. Our last lead developer telecommuted and kind of spoiled it (she didn't work there for that long) so I'm going to have to be above and beyond this year leading up to November/December. I told him I'd definitely be in on Monday mornings for our meetings and Fridays. Since I'll be graduating in the fall I'm going to plan on having a job offer in hand so he matches. I'm willing to take less pay for flexibility while I'm in school but Raleigh and surrounding area is a lot pricier than NC (it'd easily be 2.5-3x my rent now within 20 minutes of downtown). I could probably go as low as $50K assuming my bro and I stick together (that'd be $80K/year which is plenty, and our tax burden would be lower since it's two incomes). He'd be able to commute though. My plan for the year is to be on my way out of Fayetteville and on to Raleigh. Ideally I'd be in Raleigh by January, working 40-hours salaried at my job, and attending NC State. Within the next three to four years, ideally I'll be working at one of my "Big 3" (Epic, SAS, or Red Hat).

That problem is wage growth vs inflation. Our parents (and their parents, to a degree) had higher wages relative to cost of living than we do for the most part. Also houses were a lot smaller and more basic. Although my mom lived in a house where my grandparents paid like $60/month mortgage, the house is smaller than the one I live in now (it was under 1,000 square feet; my home is about 900 sq/feet) and didn't have central heating/cooling, etc. They don't build houses like that anymore ("starter houses" is what they were called?), plus with real estate being seen as an investment, prices are higher. This is a different problem than wage growth. <socialist> The bourgeoisie are stealing pocketing the increases in our increased productivity because they're getting greedier and greedier. This is unsustainable! To the gulags! </socialist>

Got the hotel + train tickets + concert tickets to see Muse in Sunrise, Florida two weeks from now. Very excited! Muse is one of my favorite bands. Unfortunately I'll be gone Saturday night (train leaves at 1:30 AM) through Tuesday (train returns at noon) but so be it... Wish they toured a bit closer (they do have a stop in Atlanta, GA which would've been about half as much Sunrise, FL is near where I grew up so FL wins).

I've been working on "powers". They're like abilities / special attacks. I have 19 planned for the demo (5 for each class + 4 defensive ones). Moving on you'll unlock a new power roughly every 10 levels, capping at level 50. Some of my favorites include riposte for melee (blocks 50%-75% of melee damage, countering with 50%-150% damage in return) and Hawk Dive (any enemies in path of arrow/projectile get hit). Power cooldowns scale with your accuracy stat, while their potency scales with your damage stat. Some skills will also have powers. For example, there will be one for mining that uses dynamite to instantly mine a rock. Those will probably be reserved for after the demo though.
  16. q-q-q-quad post. I'm working on a Tinder profile (yes, I'm not buff yet and I'll probably be disappointed again but I'm persistent). I'll be getting photos this weekend. I have a general idea for excerpts of the bio: 1. Discovered a new band and saw them live by the end of the week in DC. 2. Getting a selfie with a wild penguin is my life goal. I wish dark humor were okay then I'd have something like: 3. Like Batman, I don't have to worry about disappointing my parents. MOD_RPG said #1 is bad, #2 is ok. I had an idea for one about rollercoasters but agree it's bad so I axed it. (The picture of me in front of The Hulk should be good enough). For my Tinder profile I'm trying to do a "show things I've done that detail important traits about me." For example, the band one shows 1. I like music 2. I can be spontaneous 3. I like traveling (or at least gives an indication those are true). The penguin one is a bit of a joke (narrator: it's really not) that shows I like animals and like traveling. Any ideas?

Orlando was a blast! The Rip Ride Rockit is one of the best rollercoasters I've ever been on. We went on it three times. The Hulk was awesome like I remembered--we went on that one twice (first ride we went on, and second-to-last; we went on the Rip Ride Rockit one more time after, haha). The Harry Potter sections were amazing! I finally got the tie I've been wanting for over a year now. (Gryffindor reppin'). When I posing for a picture in front of Poseidon's Fury a cute girl said I was looking good which was so nice :). IT'S THE BEARD. Was so nice to see my grandparents (father's side) again. Last time I saw them I was in the 4th grade. Been a very long time. They live in Lake Placid, about two and a half hours south of Orlando. Was 15 years since I was last in Florida. Now I'll be going again in March. It's amazing how much things have improved in just the span of a year. We were supposed to go in December but that didn't pan out between our jobs, but better late than never :). We're so gonna go again, haha. Also I think these two are really great pictures: [hide] [/hide] I love my brother for putting up with me, lol. I so wanted to have the train in the pictures. The Rip Ride Rockit picture (second one) was hard to get... If I make a Tinder again I'm gonna use that first one...

I'm going down to Florida for the weekend with my brother (sort of a birthday present; my birthday is Monday, a year closer to 30 yay ._.). Today will mostly be driving. Tomorrow we'll be going to Universal Studios (and specifically I'm very excited about the Wizard World of Harry Potter). Saturday I'll see my grandparents (the live in the middle of nowhere, population 2K, two hours south of Orlando). And then Sunday I'll drive us back up. Funny thing is I'll be going to Florida again in March to see Muse. (Atlanta is the closer stop but I don't feel like going to Atlanta; they're touring near Lake Worth/West Palm Beach, where I grew up, so I'm hoping to meet up with an old teacher + a couple family friends if they're in Florida during that time). I'll be taking an Amtrak for that though since it'll just be me. I'm still debating between getting the $400 tickets or $100 tickets and I better make a decision soon ._. Pretty excited...
  19. t-t-t-t-t-t-t-triple post @re: gender dysphoria, I've been talking with friends/friends-of-friends/therapist about it and am framing it as "I can look good in girls or guys clothes, it doesn't matter how my body looks" which helps a lot. For example, a classmate Wednesday said I "always dress sharp" while wearing some women's clothing and last night at Jacks Tap I got a bunch of compliments from guys and girls about my outfit. One of my close friends says it gives me an indie rock look: [hide] [/hide] Then there's the times I can pull of masculine really well (which is something I want, but not all the time). So it's good as long as I keep framing it that way.

I've had three different opinions on how to handle the tool tip lol. Someone likes the actions, two people don't want the actions but keep the rest, and one person wants just the item. Wee. I'll make an executive decision and here we go: Shows "[Verb] Item Name / Description". [Verb] is the default left-click action, or nothing if there's none. I'll add a toggle for "light" tool tips that will hide the examine... eventually...

Ok the point was I fixed most of the warnings and will fix a few more when I get around to it; the bulk of those really bad warnings (PWA) aren't relevant to my website. Look I'm trying to say I listened to your feedback. Estonian Dude gave me some feedback so I added a few things: (Tool tips in inventory-based UIs like shop windows and the inventory tab + level up notifications).
  23. Veiva replied to Leoo's topic in Off-Topic
I disabled the slideshow on mobile. Hedgehog, those warnings are for "progressive web apps." My site isn't a progressive web app. Why would I fix them? Progressive web apps are sites that can run "offline" and pinned like an app on Android and ChromeOS. I fixed almost all the warnings that were relevant. My site is now mobile friendly. Google's webmaster tools agree so ...
  24. Veiva replied to Leoo's topic in Off-Topic
Besides a few warnings I don't care about, all the mobile warnings are for a "mobile Chrome app" which my site is not.

? edit: I made the website more responsive, please take a look and let me know if it's an improvement (@Kalphite and @Hedgehog mostly).
