It seems unlikely that what ever is happening will be a one-time only thing. Especially if they'll be giving away an item. They learned their lesson about that years ago, that's why holiday events now span two weeks instead of a specific time on one day. The current Jagex heads wouldn't risk upsetting that many paying customers.

Which means they'll nerf it before the week is out. :lol: I usually a big fan of holiday events but this one wasn't the greatest. Although, they made the citadel look pretty cool, especially the octopus thing in the punch bowl, and it was neat running into people like Diango and Father Aereck. The t-shirt and lanyard are nice, but the real reward was the music track and the emote. Good Saradomin, the emote! Best. Emote. Ever. <3: What are they going to come up for the Christmas emote, Santa riding up a reindeer-driven sleigh and giving us presents? :lol:

At least they're making efforts outside of the standard, and apparently ineffectual, bot detection system and player reporting. I'm not saying that the changes to Frost Dragons were the right thing to do, but it's certainly better than the apparent lack of progress and secrecy of the last few months.

There were similar hurt feelings and arguments about the Rubber Chicken when they released the Easter Carrot in '09. I feel it is, as Macbeth said, sound and fury signifying nothing. People are going to argue about it for a few weeks and then it will be forgotten. The Golden Scythe will be very obviously different from the Halloween Scythe, so I really don't see the issue. I wasn't even around in 2003 so I'm hoping it is their G.J. appreciation item so I can get one. Here's hoping they decide to release a new version of the Bunny Ears next. :P

The gold scythe is probably their appreciation item for winning the Golden Joystick again...yes, I know they haven't won it yet but I'm sure they're supremely confident. Why else would they hold RuneFest the weekend the winner is announced? Maybe the sock mask is for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Or perhaps they've devised a new random event and that's the reward.

Be prepared for a lot of bots in good training spots, and the fact that prices have dropped to the point where skilling is no longer a good way to make money. There have been far too many updates to list concisely, so I'd recommend you just wander around and enjoy rediscovering the wonderful world of RuneScape. :)
