I've been working for some time on a raw materials collection on a different account that I have. It's finally finished! [hide][/hide] And just in time for the rise in prices from the extra exp weekend! -
Hello, I'm trying to obtain an uncut onyx for a bank picture of a raw materials collection that I have been working on. I am almost finished (having invested over 100M already) and one of the last items that I am missing is the uncut onyx. I would only need the gem for 5 minutes or less (actually I could probably take the pic in under 30 sec) and then I would return it. I was wondering if it was possible to borrow one as opposed to buying one because I don't want to keep it (I plan on selling the collection once it's complete) nor do I have anything rare to offer for it. Is this feasible? I understand that nobody would sell it to me for trade price since it is worth much more. I do not wish to scam anyone of their stone (I have been accused of this already) so I've tried to make the most generous, but reasonable offer that I can. Please see the "borrowing item" section of these forums if you are interested. Any suggestions or offers are welcome. Thanks :) ~Numismaster~

Thanks for all the interesting perspectives! I have one more twist to this topic to throw out there. In the past, rich merchants would hoard "desirable" items (rares and high level stuff) in an attempt to corner the market and rise their prices. With more of these "desireable" items being released into the game, I believe that it is getting harder for any group of players to effectively control the circulation of all of these "desireable" items. How does this affect the circulation of existing rares? Will it become easier to purchase rares (with merchants trading them for newly released items) or will they just disappear faster? What do you think? P.S. This will probably be my last question to the Tip.it community on this topic since I don't want to beat it to death

Thank you for your comments. I have updated the first post to reflect your suggestions and my research on the topic. The point that I was getting at is that for a while tons of gp was entering the game and it had nowhere to go (relatively speaking). Thus, armors and weapons and rares were getting more expensive as more and more people were earning gp. This lead to shortages and hoarding, certain items became unbuyable, and junk trading boomed. However, it appeared (at least to me) that Jagex decided to combat this inflation by finding new things for these rich players to spend their money on. For example: High level herblore updates make that skill appealing, herb prices rise, and tons of gp is "consumed". Prayer curses make prayer training appealing, dragon bone prices rise, and tons of gp is "consumed". As for certain unbuyable items, Jagex first tried to manually manipulate their prices. After that failed, they released those items in mass and henceforth flooded the market (good move in my opinion  ) For example: Water filled vials were unbuyable after the Herblore update, manual price manipulation fails, adding box packs to stores is very successful in reducing price and increasing availability. Mints cakes become unbuyable as merchants hoard them, Jagex disapproves and nerfs mint cake drop rate, thus reducing price and increasing availability. Therefore, I wondered if Jagex was going (or already has begun) to release more expensive trade-able items to "soak up" some of the excess gp left in the game. These updates and items appear to serve to diffuse gp more readily across the Runescape community and linking it more tightly together. For example, pkers with cash from pvp will spend some on armors and weapons obtained by monster hunters. These monster hunters will in turn spend some of their money on herblore supplies gathered by skillers. Skillers buy their seeds from others . . . and the "web of commerce" continues. So, is this an effective way to reduce inflation? Is more needed? What do you think? P.S. My avatar is a picture of the largest drop party I've ever attended (1 billion cash!). I believe that this drop party was possible in part because of pvp cash, inflation, and merchanting. Hence it is relevant to the topic.

I was just wondering if the rate of new items (and more expensive ones too) being released in RS has increased or not and if this is helping to stem inflation in the RS economy. With the massive influx of raw gp from PVP statue drops, many players have sunk their cash into rares and semi-rares (like uncut onyx, pirate hook, 3rd age, etc) thus driving up their prices immensely. However, it seems like Jagex is releasing many pricey and uncommon items (basically items with high street price potential) that can act as new things for rich players to sink their money into. Will this solve inflation in RS? Can enough expensive items be released to balance the incoming cash flow? Will this make it easier to buy high cost items in the future? What do you think? :-k Below is a list of "new" items added to the game. Because I started in 2008, I am not familiar with all of the release dates, release prices, street prices or general ecomomy of RS before I began (but I will try to research it). Any suggestions or positive criticism is greatly appreciatied. If the flipper can buy the items for cheap, then why can't the buyer do that either? Time is a commodity and saving time can be a service. The flipper fills the time void between the buyer and seller. Although some people don't need money (or a certain item) right away, some do and these pay the price (willingly I might add). Ultimately, the Grand Exchange is a voluntary trading system regulated by many strict rules created by Jagex. Nobody is forced to use the GE; therefore, any use of it that is within the rules of the game should not be considered "wrong". If you don't like it, don't do it.

What is this sound? The only Grand Exchange sound that I am aware of occurs when my personal orders change (like when I buy or sell something). Is there a specific sound when the GE as a whole updates?

Just saw this guy at the party room  Was impressed with his 1bil+ outfit. But at the same time a little confused why he would come to an eight mil junk drop :???: -

Just wanted to post my brother's recent accomplishment. Beating Nomad. Only using rocktails (no brews or restores). As a level 112. So yeah, here is the pic: [hide][/hide] He's the lowest quest caper I've seen so far, but I've heard of lower ones. <_< -

This is probably old news, but here is a pic of a recent 1000M drop party I recently attended. Got 1 willow log from it :wall: -
I currently have access to 11 runescape accs (including my brand new classic acc, since the re-release of RSC). 9 are mine, 1 is my brother's, and 1 is my firend's. I play on 5 of them regularly and 1 only occasionally. They are: A p2p main --- Level 76 range tank who wears 80+mil in armor (full arma, ranger boots, 3rd age vambs, ect) and collects ranging items (400+ diff items) and burnt fish (over 30k!) A f2p strength pure pker --- 40 strength and 21 combat A f2p party room/solo merching/crafting pure --- Level 3 with all skills of 1 except crafting (which is 66), has over 87 mil cash ATM with a goal of buying a phat someday  A f2p tutorial island pure --- Level 5 with a bank worth over 1 mil The brand new RSC acc --- Very nooby, since I just started And the other 4 are reserved for future ideas (some I made and some from IRL friends that I tried to get to play RS but quit after the first day) The purpose of this post is not to brag (because none of my accs are really worth bragging about anyway), but to show that there are many different ways to play RS. For example, my main was my first acc. Since I like ranging and fishing, I fished to buy cool armor and trained to wear it. I wanted to try pvp, so I made a strength pure pker. One day I discovered the party room, and made an acc dedicated just to popping balloons. After making some money from that, I taught myself how to solo merch with the GE. Then, after accidentally getting level 2 crafting, I decided to "fix" it by going for 99. The tutorial island "pure" was inspired by a vid I saw on the internet. And my RSC acc was just to experience what it was like in the "good ole days" (it's great IMO). So basically I've had a chance to try nearly every style of play available, and best of all, I've enjoyed it. People have different reasons for playing and we should respect that. Don't take the game too seriously. #-o P.S. FYI, I'm not a "no-lifer". I've played RS for 2 years, and 1 of those years as a member. But I'm also graduating with my Bachelors degree in meteorology this year, I work as an electrician, I am heavily involved in my religion, I volunteer around 20 hours a month in community service, I play basketball weekly with my friends, I have a large coin collection (10k+ coins and bills), a book collection, a car, etc . . . and probably ADHD. :???:

Anyone hear of the "Greater Fool Theory"? It's the idea of buying an overpriced item only because you think you can sell it for more to someone else, the greater fool. Sums up the rares market perfectly.

I've seen a level 25 with an untrimmed hp cape and a level 3 with a slayer cape (unfortunately it was trimmed). But a level 15 with an untrimmed summoning cape would be pretty wild . . . (P.S. Lvl 15 with sum cape is possible but soo ridiculously difficult that I feel it will never be accomplished in my lifetime.)
