  1. I sense a lot of hate on this thread . . . :? Personally, I believe that there are many different kinds of people who play Runescape and for many different reasons. Perhaps most players are casual gamers who play for fun, but there are some people who truly have difficulties with self control and might develope an addiction for the game. I think that those who are strong should not demean those who are weak. With regard to my playing habits, I don't experience withdrawl symptoms when I stop playing, but I do exhibit addictive behavior sometimes when I play. I might log in just to check my GE orders for a few minutes only to end up losing 6+ hours of my day and thus neglecting to socialize, eat, sleep, do chores or homework, etc. This does negatively influence my life at times and perhaps I should quit entirely but like many others have posted, there is an element of fun to the game that keeps drawing me back. Ultimately, the decision to play or not to play is up to each individual person. They will have to live with the consequences of the decisions they make, not you. I think discussion of this topic can be beneficial for some but attacking people's personal decisions and opinions are not warrented. My two cents . . .
  2. Dont forget to stick a price tag of 400 pounds on it and we see who the REAL dedicated players are! Its proves your dedicated loyalty for an event that will be held in a small igloo home to a pola bear and its family. Thats all the details released as of yet. Jk. (Remember that they state that the event will be somewhere in antartica but have to wait untill sold out to know exactly.) But seriously. I sure it be a great event. Just the prep is in jagex usual standard and is quite amusing. Just FYI . . . polar bears don't live in Antarctica ;) Back on topic, this is the first time Jagex has ever done something like this. Let's wait and see how it goes. If they mess up next year . . . then let the nerds rage? Btw: I am not attending Runefest since it is outside of my circumstances and I am ok with that B)
  3. I died during Icthlarin's Little Helper quest and lost over 52M in armor. :wall: The stupid part is why I lost it. Basically a series of very bad decisions. Here goes . . . First, I don't like questing. Not good at it. I didn't need to do this quest at all. Second, I invested all my money into a sweet ranging outfit (worth ~113M at the time, a lot for a level 78 cb). Third, I just bought a DFS that I couldn't use yet because I was expecting to get 75 def soon (but I still carried it around). I had 15 minutes of spare time before I was going out to eat with my family. So what do I do? I start a random quest with my whole bank on me, including a dfs that I couldn't equip, and I enter the cat pyramid without food. Since I've never been there before (or anything like it) I trip nearly every trap until I reach the middle of the pyramid with a quarter of my health left before I realize that I can't get out. I'm being attacked by skeletons so I can't home tele nor did I bring any runes or tabs. However, I remembered that a particular trap would send me back to the entrance if I triggered it (where I could get out to safety). With less than 15 hp left I madly dashed to that trap, hurting myself along the way (critical error). I reached the trap, tripped it, lost 5 hp, appeared at the entrance with 2 hp, and promptly died from poison. At Lumby I realized that I had lost my cat and thus would not be able to get in the pyramid to reach my grave. So I sent my brother there to bless the gravestone. Unfortunately, since the gravestone was still in the cat pyramid (a quest area) my brother was not allowed to either repair nor bless the grave. So I sat in Lumby and watched the final 30 seconds count down. Worst part is that I could have saved 16M more had I remembered to use the item protection prayer. Items kept: DFS, Arma plate, Fury Items Lost: Arma helm, Arma skirt, Archer ring, 3rd age vambs, Ranging boots, and other lesser items totaling 52M+. In summary, out of boredom I ventured into an unfamiliar territory, began an utterly unnecessary quest, and lost 6 months of hard work in 15 minutes. Needless to say, it sort of ruined my evening. I actually stopped playing for several months after that. That's my story. I'm sorry I ranted so much about it, but I still feel quite stupid for what I did. I just had to get that off my chest. :boohoo:
  4. Is that how these sites track GE updates, by checking when the GE beta page changes? That seems very unreliable to me since the in game price changes significantly earlier than on the GE beta page. I'm been at the GE trading and seen the prices change live yet the GE beta page didn't show those changes until 5-15 minutes later (and I'm not referring just to the graphs but the actual prices listed). I don't believe that it's totally random. Short updates are nearly always immediately followed by long updates and vice-versa. This implies that the length of the previous update bears on the length of the next one. My theory is that Jagex has set a base time of 24 hours between updates with a variable time modifier that can lengthen or shorten this time. However this modifier would be governed so that the length between updates will oscillate around the 24 hour mark (this is supported but the fact that your observed average length between updates is 23.3 hours which is close to the 24 hours that I proposed). This would keep the time for most GE updates usually in a particular time slot rather than wandering throughout the day as it would if the updates were completely random from each other. On that note, is it possible to record the exact time of a GE update in GMT (Greenwich Mean Time)? I believe that this is the time that Jagex runs on (in the UK). Perhaps we could then pinpoint the base time (and possibly an average time slot) for which the GE updates and use this with previous update lengths to forecast future updates. For example, if Jagex typically starts a Runescape day (when the GE updates) at noon GMT and the previous update was at 9 am GMT the day before, then perhaps today's update will occur within 24-30 hours to keep it within 3 hours of noon GMT (note that this is a hypothetical situation with no actual data yet to support it). But if the update occurred late in the day then the next one will be short to compensate and thus keep the system in equilibrium. Knowing this information (if it is correct) will not allow us to completely determine the exact time for a future GE update. However with an ever increasing supply of data and analysis, perhaps we can reduce the size of our GE update time slots and increase the accuracy of their placement, thus leading to more accurate GE update forecasts. With better forecasts come better sniping, improved merchanting, or just wiser purchasing/liquidating decisions. Well, that's my two cents. Or more like 200 cents :P (Can you tell I studied to be a meteorologist?)
  5. Is this normal? :-? When I log into a free-to-play world my name is capitalized . . . But when I log into a member's world it's not capitalized.
  6. Hello.

I'm a big fan of your site! Haven't had the time to really use it much but I like what I've seen so far.

I saw that you were looking for someone who is good at finding patterns. Can't say that I'm great at it, but I'd like to give it a try.

I've also found a couple of typos on your site, but I don't know the best wa...

  7. How hard can this quest (Monkey Madness) be if you can do it with level 10 constitution? [hide] [/hide]
  8. I'll sell you one for pure gp :P if that answers your question. Would that be trade price or with junk?
  9. BTW if you add the cogs to the timers, they get jammed and you have unlimited turns.
  10. I have not started this quest yet, but I helped my brother to do it. Once you get the center piece spinning, raise it up. The rotational energy stored in the spinning gear powers the the red button. Repeat this process since you need 2 body bars.
  11. How come nobody uses the PVP statuettes in large trades? Those are basically condensed cash. They are completely stable and can be redeemed for gp at anytime. I would think that there would be a demand for these items among people with max cash, but I've never seen a trade yet where someone offered to pay with statuettes instead of gp. I believe that they would work great; for example you could purchase a phat for 750M and pay with 100 ancient statuettes and 250M cash. The seller could then redeem the statuettes for gp if he (or she) needed it. If you were to put your money into these, you would NEVER reach the limit (i.e. 2.1 billion ancient statuettes). The only drawback is that few of these statuettes are saved.
  12. Don't start fires after going to the eye doctor. This pic was made for fun, so no flaming please ;) And don't look up my skirt either (I'm a dude btw). Note: unshopped image
  13. LOL I'm so gullible    Umm . . . yeah . . . just ignore all of my previous analysis. I didn't know that this kind of software existed. I do remember wondering why nobody was following him as he walked around with all that stuff. <_< So how many noobs out there like me will fall for this and panic? BTW, thanks for showing me the light! =D>
  14. Those videos are a couple weeks old by now He's a fake. I was fooled  [hide]Although I personally don't want to accept what I see in those videos, as far as I can tell they look legit. 2r1ch4mybank is a real person (on RS highscores) with stats that match those in his videos. The videos are quite complex (showing many different elements of RS) which would be quite difficult to fake IMO. According to the videos, he made that account (currently named 2r1ch4mybank) on May 4th, 2009 and posted a bank video showing over 30 billion by Jan 1st, 2010 (that's 0 to 30 billion in 7 months!!). :ohnoes: Since then he has released 8 videos entitled "Rares are Rares" which show him losing tons of rares in various ways. The first video was uploaded on Jan 15th, 2010 and the most recent was uploaded on May 14th, 2010. In those 8 videos the following rares are dropped: 2 Elysian Spirit Shields 1 Divine Spirit Shield 26 Easter Eggs 2203 Santa Hats 1 Green H'ween Mask 20 Blue H'ween Masks 19 Red H'ween Masks 1 Purple Partyhat 1 Yellow Partyhat 11 Green Partyhats 16 Red Partyhats 1 White Partyhat 13 Blue Partyhats 3 Christmas Crackers . . . for a total GE value (prices as of May 18th, 2010) of . . . 216,248.5 million gp (over 216 billion gp!) :ohnoes: I realize that this only represents a tiny fraction of the total rares out there, but I believe this would have an affect on their value and availability. If anything, these videos will cause more hoarding as people will believe that loads of rares are disappearing, thus driving their prices even higher. The psychology of it all may well play a bigger role in the rares market than the actual loss of the rares (as seen in those videos). If 2r1ch4mybank can make 200B in roughly 6 months, what is there to stop him from continuing this madness? Will tradeable holiday rares disappear forever? Will I ever get my green partyhat? :wall:[/hide]
  15. Perhaps not the most appropriate ad for RuneScape? Edit: Large image [hide][/hide]
  16. Is this normal? [hide]Sorry it's so big . . . forgot to crop. [/hide] I heard that this stranger comes after you during the Desert Treasure quest. Thing is . . . I haven't started that quest yet. So I was a little confused. Another weird thing was that he would switch from player to player if the one he was following logged out or teleported away. Is this a glitch or am I just a noob who doesn't understand how this guy works? P.S. Don't laugh at my quest total. I am NOT a good quester. (For example: the last quest I attempted (3 months ago) was Icthlarin's Little Helper where I died in the pyramid and lost over 52M  )
  17. Perhaps the code will only be redeemable from a special computer at Runefest (to prevent people from selling it) and thereafter expires upon use. This way only those who actually attend and bring the code to the event will have the banner (and thus no RWT). Anyway with regard to the fairness issue, it really doesn't matter. Life is not fair. Nobody is entitled to absolute fairness and Jagex is certainly not required to make everything fair for YOU. If anything this item/event reveals the maturity of Runescape's players which sadly (sigh) . . . is quite immature. :| Edit: Apparently you can already get the banner? ( ^ At Lady_Shahdie)
  18. Ruby dragon? Close up [hide] Answer [hide][/hide][/hide]
  19. Considering that I live 5273 miles (8485 km) away from this event . . . I don't think that I will be going. But if I did, I think I'd shave my head, wear green, and stand at the bar yelling "Fr33 B33r Pl0x" until someone gave me some beer to shut up. Joking aside, I think it would be really cool if people crafted their own real life Runescape gear to display at the fest, (like real armors or partyhats).
  20. There is only one article . . . I feel that the new skill was correctly called a skill (although quite different form the other skills) due to its immense size and complexity. It's too big to be called an activity. Plus activities don't usually evolve as you get better at them (i. e. more dungeon floors with higher Dungeoneering level as opposed to 100 Soul Wars matches that are all identical).
  21. I think easter eggs are done for the moment. The panic has grown by leaps and bounds and there are reports that easters are now slowly buyable in ge for max. Here's a recent offer I found on RSOF from a guy who claims to have 116 easter eggs (which he bought at 4 mil a piece a year ago): Maybe its just manipulation, but a lot of people seem to be agreeing and this is not the only thread selling easters cheap. I believe that these eggs will eventually rebound but it might take a while since 100M+ items are generally difficult to buyout once the public loses faith in them. Perhaps for the insanely rich this (or soon) would be a great time to hoard eggs as these will become very easy to acquire.
  22. I had heard that a lot of these items escaped during the rollback. Supposedly, players who were in the dungeon during the rollback appeared outside of it (upon logging back in) but with the items in their inventories intact. If this is the case, then this would be Jagex's fault and the players should not be penalized for having these items (kind of like the half full wine jug). However, if these items are being smuggled out due to a bug then I believe they should be rightfully considered illegal to own. But again, I was not present when this occurred and all my information comes from talking to various people (so don't take it as a fact  )
  23. Jagex stated (somewhere it was posted on these forums) that more updates are planned for the dungeoneering skill. Who can say for sure that what was shown in the trailer might not be possible someday? Maybe deeper floors might have multiple bosses (or in future dungeons). We just don't know. Personally, I think we shouldn't be too hasty in our judgments over something that we really only know very little about.
  24. 6 million defense exp in under 6 seconds
  25. I made some collages of the treasure trails that my brother and I have done. There were about 125 clues total and most were level 1 or 3. Sorry for the poor quality but I didn't have much time. Level 1 Clue Scroll Rewards Level 2 Clue Scroll Rewards Level 3 Clue Scroll Rewards And just for fun . . . the coolest level 1 clue scroll reward of all time (not mine) . . . worth an astounding 3M+ I hope this was helpful. ;) ~Numismaster
