If I give you a cut of my trade every ship I go around and you monitor and tax and all that, will you not attack my ships? Also, what is your opinion on military action?
-
Aeroika
So you're saying the BCC doesn't attack unprovoked; only when it hasn't been paid its cut from trading?
-
Aeroika
It only attacks ships? What kind of fleet does it have? I was under the impression that it landed on the coast and massacred a buncha people, took their stuff, and left. ----------- There are post-war baby booms?

Hmmm, you're right Archi. The highest population growth in this century seems to be the Maldives with 5.5%. I have a feeling that this game might get dull if everyone gets into a war and starts killing off people. Also, your Barbary Corsair attacks are definitely going to kill more than 5% a year. ---------- Not really a realism problem, but you'd have to make a fairly boring game. <_<

Victorians were a cultural response, not a physical response. Let me find the growth rate of a developing country, and we can go from there. ----------------- Also, mine looking up the possible growth rates for salmon populations without human interference? I think you'll find they are startlingly high.

Archi, this is the 1900s. Everyone is having sex everywhere, that's why there's no such thing as birth control. The only reason we have a 2% growth rate today is because we're trying to be responsible. I am aware of buoyancy. Most submarines have air tanks aside from their living quarters; I'd just have to have bigger air tanks or have different gases (helium). I like the idea about the sea combat triangle. About the obese and lazy thing, I said my entire race works as a storyline thing. As a game mechanic, I reduced it to 10%. Also, my race dies when they get obese and lazy (their fat clogs their gills), so really anyone that is alive is healthy. Also, I thought technology was invented through time spent? That was the whole reason for having those specific times for research. I deprived myself of surface ships and airships because of my biological advantages. Nice neat term there. I will try to find figures as to the growth rate in the 1900s and late 1800s. If we're going to argue, might as well use facts and figures. To wikipedia!

Holy crap. *Prepares for eventuality of total annhialation*

I've deprived myself of surface ships and anything aerial because of my growth rate. That was the whole point. ------------------ Totally fair, since I'm going by my races advantages and disadvantages.

Greaters than 90%, but that's why you lay more than one egg... ------ Anyways, 5% is with in a poverty stricken country with lots of people dying in famine. You'd think that a fish laying race without people dying in famine would have a higher growth rate.
-
Aeroika
Trying to limit population growth rate already? 5% seems to be very little for an egg-laying race.

I believe you play as the whole empire. ----- We won't be having many problems in diplomacy if you stay away from the South-Asian islands. I may attack Australia too. :) - If by the time the game starts, if people don't claim an empire, is it neutral territory we can seize at our will? :)

So you're the United States of Britian? Your ship numbers are incredibly high. Also, no one has tanks yet. You have to research them.
-
Aeroika
I'll start with 100,000 troops, 200 U-Boats (personal subs, mainly used to recon (basically fixed wing aircraft of the sea)), 20 Standard Submarines, and 1 Mothership Submarine. ------- I think we've basically set the base line. :D

Can you imagine the report Archi might do? "The citizens of Berlin cowered today as Sigma forces dropped thousands of tanks into the city. The defence was swiftly annhialated, and the invaders took control. Long live Sigma!"

Whoops, you're Brazil, not the USB. Sorry about that. :D

Sounds fair. So basically researching a tank which takes the same amount of time as the research for a regular tank (tanks haven't been invented yet), but it's less armored. Is that the jist of it? -------- To Doom, when you mean high population, you mean in general, not density, right?

I just have a few things to say: 1. I believe techs take a specific amount of time to research. Ask Archi about it. 2. How is it that you have a greater population and more people working than I do? Not to mention more airships and big airthingies. Noting that your nation is full of pirates, which could not be sustained at such a great population. Maybe you should lower the number of people that work to 10% and lower your troop/ship numbers? 3. Like the first thing, tanks take a specific amount of time to research. Since yours are light enough to be carried on airships, I'm guessing that they'll take even longer.

They don't have a larger population, but they probaly have more troops (more colonies to defend). Oh well, like Archi said, you can make as many troops as you want, but maybe your colonies will all rebel against you. :)

Sounds good to me. How bout we have countries with large populations (excluding France and Britain) start with 100,000, France and Britain start with 150,000, and smaller countries with 50,000. So basically Serbia, Japan, India, and the Ottoman Empire start with 100,000. Countries like France and Britain with 150,000. Maybe the gold coast and Ross would start with 50,000. The flipside to this is that Ross starts with say...50 airships and you (Rocco) would start with like 20 airships. I would start with 20 submarines and its tech, since I don't have the airship techs.

Not sure how long I was since my last report, but basically I keep building my space fleet and putting more civilians to be soldiers. I believe my population is exceeding 10 billion soon.
-
Aeroika
I don't know; I was thinking you'd have more soldiers than that. Can we have someone's opinion on that? I was thinking 100,000+ soldiers a year, up to a limit when your economy can't support it of course.

Can everyone get their rates in and approved by Archi so we can start?
