Grim, did you look at the core handbook? It is pretty clear that the constrictor keeps the grab attack and gains constrict in addition. Earlier, I was using the PFSRD that described the unadvanced constrictor's bite as [1d3+grab] and the advanced form as [1d4]. This made it seem like that the constrictor lost its grab attack. However, if you look at the core rulebook, the grab attack is listed under special attacks. Thusly, it is an entirely different section completely, and isn't supposed to be lost at advancement. It does not state that the advanced snake has low-light vision or scent either, but it doesn't lose them. It doesn't state the movement speed, because unless there is a change, it isn't listed. So yeah, the constrictor should keep its grab attack unless that is houseruled. The overwhelming consensus from everyone I've asked is that it does not lose its grab attack. I would like you to follow precedent and go with the community interpretation of the rules, as you've done for everything else.

I told him to come along. He didn't have any idea what was going on and only came because I ordered him too. When he found out, he was already in space.

In my quest to unoptimise my character, I'd like a crocodile if that were possible, because it is weaker. I'm happy with the constrictor too, but crocodiles are just that much more interesting (not just bite, grapple, constrict).

Hey Grim, could you rule on having a crocodile instead of a constrictor snake? This is with the Scalykind domain's serpent companion ability. They're both scaly. :P I'm fine with it either way, but I'd like to know so I can roll it up.

The gorilla was only strong because I used buffs to give it some +6 to attack rolls and +9 to damage rolls. Of course, to prevent optimization overload, I am getting rid of my intelligent weapon and gorilla in favor of something more low key, so yeah. Casters aren't just boom boom boom, Nex. They reason why people think they are so good is because they can perform in combat, and have so many other spells to do lots of other stuff, like interrogate someone with waterboarding or something.

I'm a full cleric, and those are full spell casters. :P

Rivers Run Red
Hey Arch, where did you get that character sheet?

Rivers Run Red
Ah right, okay. I'm talking about different natural armor bonuses. For example, animal companions receive a natural armor bonus based on their level. They also receive a separate natural armor bonus for just being a kind of animal. These bonuses definitely do stack. EDIT: Okay, nevermind. It explicitly states that on this natural armor bonus that it stacks with existing natural armor bonus. Carry on. :)

Deferring to Wyvren on questions of rules. I am pretty sure that either improved natural attacks applied to unarmed strike or improved unarmed strike applied to natural attacks. I remember reading a WOTC or Paizo FAQ thing that said it worked, though I don't remember if that was from 3.5 or Pathfinder.

Rivers Run Red
Nex, those two stack. Natural armor bonuses from different sources stack with each other. Same as temporary HP and a lot of other things (but usually not enchantment bonuses, luck bonuses, etc).
-
Rivers Run Red
That's just enhancement bonus? I don't see how there's any difference between that and anything else. The thing is that if we pretend that a breastplate's AC bonus is actually enhancement bonus, we could put on a second piece of armor (let's say, chainshirt) and the bonuses would stack, which isn't usually how it works. So it doesn't really work like that. In general, enhancement bonuses are more expensive or temporary, or sometimes both. Why did you want enhancement bonus instead of just regular?

Rivers Run Red
1. The reason that I didn't put natural on there because I don't think that it really exists as a separate thing. I didn't misread or forget. 2. Rogue trader is planned tomorrow as well.

Rivers Run Red
Natural armor bonus and armor enhancement bonus are two completely different things, and it really throws things off if you treat one as the other.

Space
Well, either way, it doesn't matter. My run with the spaceship ended a bit sooner than I hoped, but there's no problem. :)

Rivers Run Red
So in my unoptimisation of my character, I have developed a new character concept. Instead of Bobo and an intelligent item... A chariot pulled by two crocodiles! If Grim will let me have a crocodile instead of a snake.
-
Space
Yeah. :( I decided against respawning and blowing up the Sarlane again, because THAT would be griefing.

Rivers Run Red
Darnit, there goes my plan to become an iron-fisted leader. :P

I didn't design my ship so they caught up with me and TBed it back into the Sarlane. :P

Rivers Run Red
It's rogue trader today. I think the main problem that Grim was pointing out is that we (not all of us, probably just me and some other people that I don;t know about) are already too optimised, so we should scale it back more.

Rivers Run Red
Hey Grim, if you can let me have a crocodile instead of a snake (they're both scaly) as part of the scalykind domain feature, I can get rid of Bobo, if that's what was bothering you. My new build would still be focused on animal companions, but not one with a big sword. That would become more of a "crocodile" charmer build.

Rivers Run Red
Well I'm not even using the same character in the duels and in the game. Well, same "character", but different feats, spells, magical weapons, etc. They're fun in different ways, so why not do both?

Rivers Run Red
It's been changed to my kobold having an intelligent shield, but that was the general idea until the realization of an out of control ape with an intelligent weapon frightened me. Ape just has a run of the mill greataxe now.

Rivers Run Red
Got it. What would people say that the symbol of the tavern is? And could you explain said commandments of practical optimization?
-
Rivers Run Red
I'm sure you can make it work. Perhaps it doesn't allow a specific kind of idea, but a little of tweaking can always make it work. A small kobold with -4 to str is never going to be a melee heavy hitter, for example. You know that the monk bonuses to AC only apply when you're unarmored, right? ------- Hey guys, what should our party's flag be?

Rivers Run Red
So Nex, you basically want to keep the flavor of the changeling without all the mechanics?
