    Bobo is now intelligence 2
  2. Retech replied to Grim_'s topic in Falador Tavern
Okay, Bobo is now an intelligence 2 animal companion. It doesn't have proficiency with weapons, but it can still use them!
  3. Retech replied to Grim_'s topic in Falador Tavern
Where does it say that? If I can't get proficiency, it'll still have +8 to attack, so still be fine. Do creatures usually get simple weapon profiency?
  4. Retech replied to Grim_'s topic in Falador Tavern
6000 gp. If you want to swap something out, I recommend taking out the belt of giant's strength. It costs 4,000 and gives +2 to strength, so you'd have to make the changes to CMD, attack, str, etc.
  5. Retech replied to Grim_'s topic in Falador Tavern
Alternatively, you could ask someone else if you could borrow 150 gp.

If you don't particularly care that it is leaf armor, you can get masterwork studded leather armor. It is exactly the same (infact leaf armor is just masterwork studden leather, but made out of magical leaves), but masterwork studded leather is some 300 gp cheaper. So you could get one for you and one for your pet.

Two tips: 1) I think you rolled up your wolf as a level 4 animal companion, but rangers treat theirs as ranger level - 3. You would need the boon companion feat to get a level 4 animal companion. 2) Your companion doesn't need light armor proficiency. If you can give it armor with an armor check penalty of zero, then it doesn't matter whether it has proficiency or not. Best way would probaly to take some sort of masterwork armor, which isn't too much more expensive. --- Subdomains replace abilities in the regular domain. So the animal domain (feather subdomain) counts as one domain. So it is the animal domain (feather variant), and then the scalykind (dragon varient). If I need to choose a god though, I'll go with Erastil and become lawful neutral.

Animal domain (Feather Subdomain) Scalykind (Dragon subdomain)
  9. Retech replied to Grim_'s topic in Falador Tavern
Feather subdomain = Flight The other choice would be air domain, I suppose. Oh wait, that's air elemental stuff (like lightning and storms).

Icu, the point is, I chose a mechanically inferior, fluff superior set of domains because they fit the "wants to be a dragon" backstory. I am not changing my backstory, so if the GM says I have to change my domains, I'll just have to choose different domains. Currently, EVERYTHING is stronger than the dragon subdomain, but I took it anyways, because it's fun flavor and fits perfectly with my backstory. It says clearly in the rules that clerics do not need deities. If I must take a deity, then I will just choose one. There is no issue with that. But I don't think that Grim would honestly make me change my domains like that. If it fits the backstory and doesn't contradict the rules, then why should I be forced to change them? Ultimately, it's up to Grim, but there is no bending of the rules or RAW.

I made up the cause, because it fit my backstory. If I was to worship a god of serpents or dragons, then I'd have to choose a lawful good or chaotic evil, both of which are not very interesting to me this time around. So, I chose a cause that would make sense with the fact that I am playing a kobold (many of them want to be respected as dragons and have dragon-like powers). It's rather simple. The scalykind domain is rather underpowered, but very nice for fluff. (Kobold with dragonbreath, cool!) A flavorful cause fits much better with the fluff and backstory than any of the pre-existing gods, which I looked at.

There's a lawful good god of dragons and a chaotic evil god of dragons. Draconic is in the middle, true neutral. My character is morally conflicted about situations, so one minute, she might be excited to kill something, and the next minute, when she's standing over the person's dying body, she would be hesitant to kill. That wouldn't have been evident in our duel, when we were both trying to kill each other, so instead of packing good spells like cures and sanctuary, I just packed a buncha inflict moderate wounds and death knells, among other things. My regular spell list is roughly split half/half (maybe a bit more inflict, because I can spontaneously convert them into cures). Also, playing an evil character wrecks the party (as Ross pointed out), and playing good characters kinda became boring for me after a while, so a morally conflicted character is what I chose.

While the vast majority of clerics revere a specific deity, a small number dedicate themselves to a divine concept worthy of devotionsuch as battle, death, justice, or knowledgefree of a deific abstraction.

RAW: Weapons for Unusually Sized Creatures: The cost of weapons for creatures who are neither Small nor Medium varies (see Equipment). The cost of the masterwork quality and any magical enhancement remains the same http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/magic-weapons
  15. Retech replied to Grim_'s topic in Falador Tavern
Yeah, hence why I was asking for permission. It doesn't make a difference except for the description. Sword: "The ape brought its greatsword down on the warrior's full plate. The sword did not penetrate, but the warrior felt a jarring impact." Axe: "The ape hefted its massive greataxe into the air and brought it down on the warrior's shoulder. The sheer impact barely left him standing, the sheer pain of his wound shook him to his core." --- Actually Icu, only for the base weapon. The weapon enchantment costs the same.

Animal companions with an Intelligence of 3 or higher can select any feat they are physically capable of using. GMs might expand this list to include feats from other sources. *Cough*, no it doesn't. This is a specific case which applies, so we use the most specific rule. The above is referring to non-intelligent animal companions.

    1. Bobo gets two feats. One of them is martial weapon proficiency. 2. I have taken the Boon companion feat, which increases its level by 3, up to my class level (which is 4). So yes, I actually get a level 4 class pet.

Bonuses at level 3 intelligence: This lists the animal's total skill ranks. Animal companions can assign skill ranks to any skill listed under Animal Skills. If an animal companion increases its Intelligence to 10 or higher, it gains bonus skill ranks as normal. Animal companions with an Intelligence of 3 or higher can purchase ranks in any skill. An animal companion cannot have more ranks in a skill than it has Hit Dice. Creatures of animal-level instinct have Intelligence scores of 1 or 2. Any creature capable of understanding speech has a score of at least 3 ----- So at intelligence score of 3, it does not have animal-level instinct and thus gains humanoid-like sentience. I can search for more RAW if you'd like, but this is already well established. And Earth, I wanted to put a greataxe in a scabbard. There is no mechanical difference, but a greataxe makes much better fluff than a greatsword. ---- However, you might want to consider putting it into Intelligence. Getting an animal to a 3 intelligence provides many benefits. The companion is no longer restricted to a specific list of skills and feats that it can select from. Further it it no longer is required to use animal tricks and handle animal checks. Lastly, you can put a point into linguistics for the companion, and then select common as a language. The companion will not be able to speak, but the character can talk to it and it will understand. A 3 intelligence isn't going to allow for a lot of deep conversations, but it's a leap above the very specific actions allowed by animal tricks. (Okay, a bit mistaken. It can't really talk, but it understands)

Read the part on the right hand side in the special column that says "Ability score increase." :)
  20. I don't see what you're disagreeing with, though. I still the colonists to build my stuff, so clearly I would vaccinate them (so that they don't drop dead while working for me). It's a purely economic argument and I don't see any reason to treat them otherwise. I don't care if it's my fault or not. I'm only treating them because they can only build stuff when they're alive. Also, you might not want them back, because they'll be covered with bacteria. :D
  21. You're being billed for it by the way. Even though they're colonists, it is your fault that you pushed us into giving you the colonists when I said you could work on astare 4. We're making the cure, because we're still going to be having them on Astare 3?
  22. Retech replied to Grim_'s topic in Falador Tavern
At level 4, your animal companion gains +1 to one ability score. If your companion already starts with intelligence 2, and then you choose to add one to intelligence, you have three! Question to GM: Can only swords fit in scabbards?
  23. 1. Mad Robot is in control of Astare 3 2. We have enough resources to manufacture a cure this session, but we need to develop a vaccine to get them back to work.
  24. Retech replied to Grim_'s topic in Falador Tavern
Just have to be medium sized humanoid, I think.
  25. Retech replied to Grim_'s topic in Falador Tavern
Well, we could all contribute for a hat of disguise, which grants +10 to disguise checks. Then someone can get the Go-Unnoticed feat, and that's another +10, I think. Then they can just walk around saying they're a human.
