  1. 10k players, especially those with pure accounts that got "ruined" or made useless by EoC, can be much more than 30k accounts. When I took a 2 year hiatus from RS it would show 8 accounts leaving the game as well as 20-30 page views/day. I'm not saying there aren't a few other variables I left out nor do I deny over-simplifying the issue. But take a moment in my shoes: Keep in mind this game has been "dying" since the "economy crisis" of 2003. It's been "dying" since the transition to RS2. It's been "dying" since the release of "useless monkeysink/no thought/useless skills" like Construction and Slayer. It's been "dying" since Godwars/Dclaws/PvM-centric gameplay. It's been "dying" since the removal of the Wilderness in 2007. It's been "dying" since the introduction of Bounty Hunter. It's been "dying" since Bounty Hunter was removed. It's been "dying" since Free Trade was re-introduced. It's been "dying" since EoC landed. It's been "dying" for a goddamn long time - and some of us are just sick of hearing the wild theories behind why. Here's the truth starting from 2005: Nearly all MMO's have taken a hit. The next generation of players simply aren't patient enough for MMO's and play immediate gratification games like Meatboy or Angry Birds where levels are a few minutes long - not a few days of grinding. There is more competition in "fast action" games like Battlefield or Call of Duty as well that give a "better thrill" than Runescape PvP. This isn't 2003~2006 where consoles still kinda sucked to play online with (PS2 was mostly racing games, Xbox live was shoddy) The PS3 was released in late 2006. Xbox 360 was released in late 2005. The funny thing about RS's largest "downhill trend" was the new competition from the 360 and PS3 in 2006-2007 as the consoles started gaining a larger consumer base. Whenever a new major title is released for a console - Runescape takes a small hit in players for a week or two while everyone is playing those games. There is simply a lot more competition resulting in less growth of a new playerbase. The game still gets new players (I see them quite often on one of my noob accounts!) but that number is a lot less than in 2004-2005. As older players leave the game, getting busy with college, family, or just bored with the game after 8-10~ years of playing - that huge influx of players from 2004-2006 are finally leaving the game. The 2004-2006 players simply aren't being replaced as quickly as they had joined. This isn't something to be overly worried about. It's actually quite expected and seems to be stabled out. It's less than in 2004-2006 but with increased competition and less young player interest (due to more instant gratification or faster paced games being out) that should be expected. When Jagex is making more money per year than they've ever made in the past - having less players isn't TOO big of a deal because those players are paying Jagex more money than older players. 1) They aren't paying "grandfathered" membership prices. 2) They are buying SGS items, Runecoins, Spins, and Bonds in quite large amounts. I've paid over what I would have paid Jagex in an entire year in the past just buying spins once for the Farming outfit. That means just on me alone they've increased their profits by 200%. Another friend of mine has spent $350~ in spins in the past 6 months. Considering they used to only make $60/month off this player - that's nearly a what.. 700% profit? And it isn't even the end of the year yet. e: Some typos fixed.
  2. The people who voted for legacy != 100% of the people who quit because of EoC. If the poll was for completely replacing EoC with Legacy mode, the results would have been much more different, mind you. Completely agree. Voted for legacy because I didn't see the harm in it and many people would enjoy having it. I however like EOC and have no intention of really using legacy. Saying 80% voted for it is not the same as 80% wanted to use it and definitely isn't the same as 80% think EOC ruined the game. The harm in it is that Jagex can barely balance one combat mode (EoC) and now they have to balance EoC with Legacy. If they can't balance one what makes people think they can balance two with each other? Not to mention the wasted Dev time for Nostalgiascape instead of working on fixing the issues with EoC...
  3. 120k people online + 30k bots - 30k bots = 90k people online EoC hits = 10k people quit OSRS = 20k go to OSRS 60k + 20k = 80k players +10k quitters + 30k bots = 120k people There you go, mystery solved.
  4. You really should be doing trim reqs for yourself rather than to "compete" with others, or you'll just wear yourself out with posts like this. I don't do it directly to compete, but I think it's stupid to give a gold medal to 3rd place so to speak. It puts "completion" on a bias. It isn't completing the content, it's being lucky with the content. Which, in my opinion, means it shouldn't be a requirement. Completion should be a very hard defined time and effort input. I don't care if the req takes 80+ hours. But if it does, it should take 80+ hours for everyone, not just people who are unlucky. @Yoko I have 4,000~ demon kills, which has taken me a bit over 40 hours. I have 0 titles - and as long as 1 is going to be a requirement, I think all 5 need to be the requirement. I also support "The Defeater" title for Trim (although I don't Vorago and a friend let me leech off his clan to get my 1 required mauling) . While I understand your view about quirky titles - they don't get devalued much if everyone has it but nobody really uses it. It's still rare to see if nobody who has it actually uses it! Of course, I don't think it should be a requirement at all. But I highly doubt they are going to remove it, so I think it needs to be all 5.
  5. Odds for champ scrolls are 1 in 5000 [qfc]317-318-288-65354165[/qfc] I think you missed my point. I'm 100% aware of the odds of a champ scroll and I killed 36,000~ Mummies for that scroll (it was my longest one) What I was pointing out however is that killing 36,000 Mummies or killing 1 Mummy shouldn't dictate who is more of a completionist. Luck should never play such a large role in completion. To show how unfair it can be: I'd love for Phoenix pet to be a trim req. Would love to see the 600+ days of rage some people have when obtaining theirs (it took me 612 days to obtain my 1st Phoenix). Some people would already have it. Others would obtain it within a day or week. Some would go months. And the very unlucky few would go over an entire year. Of course the people who get lucky and complete it within a day are obviously superior completionist to those who have done the activity daily for over a year. How silly of anyone to think otherwise!
  6. Which means, what, exactly ...? It detects if the device supports a certain feature - and if not, it uses a fallback. Previously it'd just fail to run. Doesn't help they didn't give many specifics. But I'd assume for non iPad tablets that lacked support for a given thing. Since little thought would have been given to less popular mobile devices.
  7. I've killed more demons without a title than I have most of my champ scroll mobs for a champ scroll. 4,000+~ demons and counting. I got the majority of my champ scrolls in <3,000 kills
  8. "I'm more of a completionist than you because I killed 204 demons and got all 5 titles and you've killed 5,300 demons and don't even have 1 title." -- Luck based requirements
  9. The same reason why "password" and "password1" are extremely popular passwords.
  10. Yeah. They can't log in though so everything's good. http://puu.sh/9gRFI ALL GOOD, lads. That's fake L http://a.pomf.se/gphdia.png Yea, he just changed his name to the name of one of the hackers for the lulz I guess. You can change someone's name without being able to log into the game because of JAG The previous picture was fake But now the hacker actually has access to the account so yeah. JAG is insecure so that really doesn't mean much. Most peoples' JAG's can be counteracted with the smallest amount of social engineering. 1) It tells you the first letter 2) It tells you the exact size With basic knowledge of a person, and assuming they answered their questions honestly to better remember the answers themselves (as MOST people do) - you can get reliably get past JAG with a google search.

  14. Good luck writing a FizzBuzz if you cheated so much you hardly know the material.
  15. Newb is shorthand for newbie which is slang for novice. Noob is a corruption of newb.
  16. And so it begins. ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' (I'm joking) (or am I?)

  20. @Serfal A bug can go undiscovered for years. "If Heartbleed was a bug, it would have been stopped YEARS ago because Heartbleed has been in OpenSSL since 2011!" The duration of time it took for Heartbleed to be discovered and fixed doesn't mean it wasn't a bug. That being said - it isn't a bug unless you go by precedent. However it is for certain misused mechanics. The game ends early if the enemy team leaves so that the remaining team wouldn't have to wait in a game for a while. This is intended to make sure you aren't playing against "nobody". But wait, I said something about being a bug by precedent? Well - in a previous patch a similar method of leaving on one team early to force end a game quickly was patched away. This can be considered a bug by precedent in that "it should have been patched away when the method was patched for another minigame". It was an oversight by the programmer to not think to apply that fix to every minigame that this was possible in.
  21. I'm not hating on Drumgun. I'm saying whoever called him efficient is wrong. Everyone who knows Drum knows he doesn't play efficiently nor does he really want to. He rarely gives RS his full attention, which kind of makes efficient playing difficult. Nothing is wrong with that. But using his XP records to try and prove some efficiency that doesn't exist is illogical - as I displayed.
  22. All because he didn't use Mousekeys which JMods have already OK'd. That thread was gold. Ask Drumgun.
  23. he holds 6 records. hes setting tons of records playing inefficiently obviously. 3 of those are his smith records. and the fact xp rates change isnt the reason he doesnt hold a lot of records. its him wanting to play afk for everything. Correct me if I'm wrong - but didn't he mostly do Rocktails for 200m Fishing? Didn't he inefficiently gather bonus Smith XP @ Stealing Creation to set records instead of taking the more efficient route and not wasting time @ Stealing Creation? (Assuming the 3 minute game method wasn't well known prior to the double points weekend and Drumgun was using Fast SC instead of 3 minute SC games) He held a Hunter record for quite a while - he got that record hunting Red Chinchompas. Even after Jadinkos were around he held the record for quite a while. Why? Because nobody really bothered to beat his record...to beat his record involved training Hunter for 6 hours prior to reset time, getting 6 hour'd shortly after daily reset, then playing for the entire day - and logging before the next days reset. I'd like to point out right now that I can beat every single Farming record if I went and inefficiently gathered Vinesweeper points @ 30-35k xp/hr, hoarded up 100m+ points, and then cashed them in on a single day. I'd DOMINATE all the current records. It'd be terribly inefficient - but I'd be a record holder! But I'd have done it in an inefficient way for the set of setting records. Which is exactly what Drumgun does. He plays inefficiently to prepare for methods that provide great amounts of XP - and then he sets records by pure manhours (using 30 hour days to set 24 hour records using the above described 6 hour method) Kinda like #1 Att gains. He hoarded Zeal from Soul Wars over the course of nearly a year I believe? Then cashed in like 190m Attack XP. Terribly inefficient, but I doubt anyone will ever beat his record. Drumgun admits himself he doesn't play efficiently as he would rather play for fun. He enjoys setting records and so he plays inefficiently to prepare to set those records. PS: He did 200m Combats w/o Slaying. Undoubtingly efficient.
  24. Drumgun does not try to do things as efficient as possible. He just likes setting records by playing extended amounts of time.
