  1. Logical fallacy Xpls, logical fallacy.
  2. I asked my biology teacher this exact question today (he's a very intelligent man) and his response was "Almost certainly, yes."
  3. I suppose that depends whether or not you're talking about mathematical science or experimental science. I agree, experimental science will never be 100% accurate, but (if maths can be considered a science) the fact that 2+2=4 to me is just one of those universal truths. Meh.
  4. It's a nice website, clear and easy to read information. Sadly though, the science behind it is less accurate than you might think.
  5. Clearly, we need another Rocky... *cough* :uhh:
  6. Enya's awesome Aside from that, I have to say i'm partial to the beautifully melodic, haunting melodies of SCOOTER!!!11, famous for giving us such insightful lyrics like "Respect to the man with the ice-cream van" and "Siberia the place to be". Anyway, a bit of James Blunt now and again never did anyone harm (except dog's ears) and er...what the hell, Bryan Adams!
  7. It's all right, ghosts aren't real. Never underestimate the power of the brain for making us "see" things.
  8. To be honest, we're lucky to have half the fossils that we do, considering the delicate and specific conditions they require to form and stay accessible. The fossil record supports evolution, but isn't the only evidence behind it.
  9. Wait 'til that loveable thong clad scouser posts :P
  10. As much as I like the aesthetics, 100 quid is a lot of money to spend on that.
  11. Interesting point, except the non-intuitive nature of physics that you refer to is proven by calculation, and hence less a leap of faith than more of a way of looking at things which is hard for us to grasp at the moment. We've always lived in a middle sized world, yet if we were to suddenly look at a similarly developed species of thinking, logical intellectual beings but ones who lived on the atmoic scale, the laws of quantum mechanics would be completely intuitive to them, but relativity would be mind blowing. And vice versa.
  12. But still very restrictive compared to the western world.
  13. Well then, clearly we have completely different outlooks. You need religion to help you with this life, i'm the opposite.
  14. That's a good way of putting it. I dont think medical advances is considered evolution. Thats just prolonging our already frail body. If anything we are digressing instead of progressing. We have so many comforts in our lives and no physical challenges. Yes we are constantly improving our mental states, but are physically getting lazier. We are only slowing down our evolution, not all animals. They are constantly improving. trying to survive in the world filled by viruses (aka man kind) Speak for yourself, many humans are always pushing themselves harder physically, with or without science.
  15. Try to look at it from an atheist's perspective though. We look around, and see all the religion, all the misinformation about fundamentalism, interpretations and the like. You're right, we live amongst and respect the good muslims, and christians, and jews and all others, but not because of their religion. We judge them by the content of their character, not by their religious beliefs. We wonder what the potential of these people would be if they weren't held back by religion, we wonder how many lives might have been saved without religion, we wonder how much better the world might be without not only fundamentalism and extremism, but without moderate religion, without the indoctrination of children before they can make up their minds, without the segregation of men and women for no other reason than an ancient scripture says so. We wonder what the world might be like if unquestionable faith wasn't taught to be a virtue, and something to be automatically respected. So, forgive us when we seem irate and aggressive, forgive us when we become frustrated and angry and throw quotes and facts at you to try and curb the spread of misinformation. We mean well, we really do. Some may feel sorry for us, living without god, but please don't, because we have come to appreciate the amazement and wonder of the world as it is. The world suddenly becomes a lot more beautiful, and life so very precious when you realise that this is all we have. We live our lives for the world, not for an afterlife. We just wish others would join us.
  16. That's a good way of putting it.
  17. http://www.a1freesoundeffects.com/radio.html They have a couple on there, no idea if they're any good. As you said, results are either not related or latest chart ringtones.
  18. Oh yeah I completely agree, fossil fuels are going to run out probably within our lifetime, so we definitely need to do research and implement renewals. And making everything more efficient makes good sense anyway. However, it's just nice not to feel guilty when the press declare that cheap airline flights are destroying the planet. Have you read any of this post?
  19. The Camera Eye - Rush
  20. We Were Soliders is probably my favourite Vietnam movie, but Platoon and Apocalypse Now were superb as well.
  21. That's an interesting question, the simple answer is, environmentalists love it. In actual fact, the idea of global warming was proposed by a Sweedish scientist on a BBC program because at the time everyone was worried about global cooling (kind of ironic). The sweedish scientist speculated that an increase in CO2 might actually heat the Earth up by a few degrees or so, but he was laughed at by most of the scientific community (kind of ironic). Margaret Thatcher then caught wind of this theory, and ran with it. At the time she was struggling to wrestle power from the coal unions in the UK, so she needed something to reduce our supposed dependency on coal. She thought the middle east was too unstable to rely on for oil, so tried to get nuclear power started. But to do so effectively she needed to convince people that using fossil fuels was dangerous, and hence she founded what would become the IPCC. Then, the Berlin Wall came down, and suddenly we had an influx of ideological marxist type people getting involved in western affairs. Living in communist russia for a few years, they generally hated the idea of big capitalist oil companies, so suddenly we have a new army of environmentalists who know how to use propoganda and misinformation very effectively. Nowadays, enough people have been swindled that politicians tap into the vast support global warming type policies can bring them, the press love the sensationalist stories of "we're doomed" and the propoganda continues.
  22. Answers that science doesn't currently have isn't the same as answers it won't ever have. That's an arrogant and deluded statement anyway, not even the most religious people profess to have all the answers, most of them are wiser than that. Corrected your misquoting of trapical as well.
  23. Nothing, I just dislike it when people parade incorrect or irrelevant science as some sort of proof for the existence of a creator. It nearly misled me in the past, i'd hate others to be converted on that kind of basis.
