Um, Switzerland is much more powerful than the US when it comes to military technology. Bigger isn't always better, in this case the most technologically advanced is, which is Switzerland. BTW China has a bigger army. You can throw in the subtle advantages of Sweedish technology all you want (in reality, they're not that far ahead of the US at all, don't think that either government reveal all their military technologies) but the simple fact is the US still has the most powerful army/navy/airforce in the world in terms of technology, size and global projection power combined. And that's what counts, not sheer size (China) or pure technology (Sweeden).

  4. For pity's sake just get a grip. Have you not read what I and someone else has been saying. Religion is used as an excuse to justify that kind of thing and theyd just find another excuse to hate blacks if there was no religion. Have you not read what I said? Religion is not used an excuse to justify racism or suicide bombings etc. religion is the cause of these things in these cases. I'm tired of people saying that religion is an excuse for suicide bombings, when it's actually the cause. Suicide bombers and other fundamentalists really do believe that they are doing what is right, they are doing it in the name of faith and God because they really do believe in it. They do not look for "excuses" to be racist or violent.
  5. All those things are done in the name of religion or God, all are done because of unquestioning faith. They're not done by people who say "let's use religion as an excuse to kill some people", they're all done because people actually believe in their cause, otherwise why else would someone blow themself up, if they don't believe in an afterlife? Oh for the love of.. People will still kill each other even if there is no religion. We'd kill each other if our skins don't match, or we don't live the same lifestyle. You name it. It's not just religion they kill themselves for. People would kill themselves to give a better life for their families. Don't be so naive to think that people kill themselves only for an afterlife. I'm not denying there'd still be war or violence in an atheistic world, it just might be done in the name of a lot less irrational causes.

  8. This is one of those never-ending debates that you can never make a decision on. A lot of people would say Hendrix simply because he's more famous and there's a lot of hype about him, but they don't really realise how innovative he was. That said, there are far better technical guitarists, and I have other classic rock guitarists that I prefer, it's all down to opinion.
  9. You'll enjoy it, all my experiences of travelling in that region of northern europe are very good. Don't worry about the language, nearly everybody speaks english, especially if you're staying in larger hotels. When I went and did all the war graves and battle fields we stayed in small B&B's where they spoke little english but you should be fine. The food's generally superb, the people are friendly enough and the history is fascinating.
  10. Wanting to wear shorter socks? Yeah! Anarchy! Now go throw a leaf at a nun!
  11. Grim, you've no idea how much respect i've lost for you in this thread. You're blindly defending an archaic belief system and set of causes based on no principle other than that it somebody's elses law and therefore we must respect it because we haven't experienced it. Clearly, Sharia law is a blatant and rather disgusting violation of human rights. Regardless of it's basis or implementation or history, we should condemn it because most of us live in a society that treats women equally, and respects people's liberty and religious freedom and all those other important human rights. Don't even try and tell me that Sharia law treats women equally for the most part because it just doesn't. It's a law based on a religion that was founded thousands of years ago and the laws haven't changed much, despite the changing moral zeitgeist being advanced so much further. It's laws like the Sharia law which are holding back the advancement of human rights, liberty and equality. You really should read The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.
  12. Billie Jean or Thriller by Michael Jackon, and uh, Night Fever? :uhh:
  13. Means a lot to me.
  14. Oh hell yeah, I do those all the time on my iPod for big family parties or friend's parties. I just plug the iPod into a speaker system and enjoy the party. I try and include enough stuff to get people going but I have an eclectic taste, so i'll often try and slip in a few more obscure tracks, which sometimes go down well and sometimes don't. Although it seems lazy I do actually spend a lot of effort trying to choose the right songs for the right occasion and get the order right so you have the general pop/rock stuff at the beginning leading into better songs to dance to leading to more romantic stuff.
  15. I've listened to quite a bit of rock n' roll because my parents love it, and I like it as well. It sounds absolutely fantastic in certain situations. I'm fan of Elvis, Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly, and other 50's artists.

    Nah, reggae.
  17. Lucky thing, enjoy!
  18. I agree, a yes vote for me.
  19. Rocky has a seriously iconic soundtrack, Sly Stallone running up those steps...ah. Some more great "classical" soundtracks: Gladiator Dances With Wolves Platoon Braveheart The Deer Hunter Schindler's List The Godfather and The Piano all spring to mind.

  21. Do what Bubsa said, not tell anyone, stick it in a high interest savings account and just live a comfortable lifestyle. Nice holidays, nice cars (but not ridiculously expensive), nice food and drink etc.
  22. It's not Dune. That's about all I can help. Ok, althought I'm starting to think that it was The Never Ending Story, is there anyone who is big on that movie? Oh god I semi-remember that film, but in the same way that you do. I can remember one scene or two which I really loved and stayed with me for ages but only parts of it, the rest of the film is just blank for me. Did it have a boy riding a giant dog in it? Or a young damsel in distress type figure lying in a bed? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_NeverE ... %28film%29
  23. Difference of opinion, fair enough. I suppose it does actually have a special meaning for me, which might explain my affection for it.
  24. The Sentinel Although not an especially clever "thriller", I did enjoy it over my dinner.
