Goutweed Tubers - the new Lumberjack top
Grr! I've been trying for a week now. Getting kind of desperate now... I have a red topaz machete and I've cut all kinds of bushes for several hours a day. I can't believe they make this kind of task a medium one!

How Rare Is the Big Shark?
Yeah, I've prepared to fish tons, but not to get any levels since I'm 99 already :? And I will not need the sharks, I just need the big one. I hope I get it soon.

How Rare Is the Big Shark?
Has any of you managed to catch a big shark for your house? If so, how long did it take you? I've fished 1K sharks now without luck. I'm just wondering how long must I still stay in the fishing guild. Seems a bit like waste of time seeing I'm 99 fishing already.

Music box
I have all but one, been stuck in this situation for ages already. I started unlocking the songs way back when RS2 came online. Took a few hours to explore every place back then, after that it's been just roaming the new updates. The one I'm still missing is Evil Bob's Island from the random event.

Most of the Barbarian Assault Rewards Utterly Useless?
Thanks for the replies so far, but there's still one thing that greatly bugs me. In the news clip on the main site it says that there is "a new armour set with multiple uses" as one of the rewards. Any ideas what they meant with this?

Most of the Barbarian Assault Rewards Utterly Useless?
I know that the gloves and torso are the useful ones, but has someone confirmed the general opinion that the others are completely useless? For example someone wearing a runner hat, runner boots, Penance skirt, Penance torso and gloves could have some bonus that has not yet been confirmed.

4th January- Barbarian Assualt
That game is awful currently. It's a great minigame, but the factor that 90% of people can't be bothered to study the tutorial and KB makes it plain awful. If you want to play this properly now, you must have a team before you go there.

Behind the Scenes - January
Sounds like a great month! Too bad I'm forced to go to the army on the 8th January. I hope I find some time to look through these interesting updates.

Do You Enjoy Runescape NOW As Much As When You Started?
I got to admit that I enjoyed playing more in the beginning. But maybe that's just because the past always seems so golden. Now the gaming's a bit different but I still enjoy it a lot.

Best year to play RuneScape?
2001 without doubt! I loved being a total noob with everyone else. If only I could go back to those days with all my current knowledge.... I'd be wise enough to train smithing high in the beginning (although it was a pain because we had no banks etc.). I'd also get tons of pumpkins and crackers and stuff :)

Poll: How many Amulets of Glory do you own?
I currently have 43, I think. One is mounted in my house, others I use for RC'ing. Bought some extra because I always lose a few of them because of the silly PK'ers.

Your favourite place to train?
Currently the abyss since I'm making money with nats.

How do you type in Runescape?
I'd go with 9 out of 10. I don't usually use full stops. But hey, who in RuneScape does? There's not many of those. I try to spell everything correctly and use appropriate grammar but sometimes a typo or two slip in. Usually I try to correct those too.

World 99
I used to use it for a while. The problem is that it lags way too much. I prefer the Finland worlds, they are almost lag-free for me.

About levels and xp
Floor is a term used in most computer scripting/programming langauges and basically means to round the number that is being "floored" down to the nearest integer. It's the same as using the greatest-integer brackets. Ah, if this is the case, then Phil's formula could be exactly what Andrew (or Paul?) thought when they programmed the game. At least it's a lot higher chance than polynomials with terms like 19383.3983298023805325238638249235792375.... But again, since the data is discrete, there's an infinite amount of 100% fitting functions. So we can never be sure unless we get some info from Jagex.

About levels and xp
But doesn't the slope of the Natural log function go the wrong way as the level increases? Namely, the Exp curve looks exponential not logarithmic. Yeah, that's why I'm curious as to where Phil's formula came from. It's such a strange looking thing. First note: You're right, it goes the wrong way. However, it's symmetric with the line y = x, so its inverse function is just what we need, that is the form e^x. And my guess for the second one is that they just hand-drew a curve without thinking any exact formula for it. Then they took the values from that. Now, if you try to search the formula for it, you'll end up with crazy values. If there is an exact, beforehand determined function, I'd search for something like e^(f(x)), where f(x) is a simple function including only 1 or 2-decimal values. I can't really say anything about Phil's formula. I didn't understand the "floor" thing. Is it something computer-related? At least I haven't seen it in mathematics yet. Still, that formula looks a bit complicated to me. I don't believe a programmer would just invent a formula like that. Of course, I could be wrong and it could be the exact formula.

About levels and xp
What do you think of the 2 Level-to-Exp functions presented earlier? Natural logarithms would be the most logical choice for function, if you ask me. However, because of the discrete, non-infinite nature of the data we have, we can never be sure of the exact function (supposing there even is one).

About levels and xp
Personally, I don't believe there's a nice function behind the (lvl, xp) pairs. I've drawn some mappings with my functional calculator, and the growth seems somewhat exponential, but not completely regular. It could be constructed from a few different functions and then be compiled from those. Of course they may have drawn the mapping f(x) = 1.2x^4 - 184x^3 + 9248x^2 - 161600x + 654933 for example and taken some approximate values from that. Or maybe they just hand-drawed some curve and used a computer program to look up for some values. After all, any set of pairs can be approximated with extreme accurateness if we just add enough terms to the function. I highly doubt the programmer just came up with numbers with more than 10 decimals. My bet is they just hand-drew a curve and took values from that. We can always search for functions, and there is an infinite amount of 100% accurate functions (since the values are discrete) and none of them are really "better" than the others. I study mathematics at an university so feel free to ask me some questions.

Animal Magnetism complete (reward)
Can't combine capes and accumulators. They both must be equipped in cape slot to function.
-
12 December 2006-Animal Magnetism.
Yes, according to Ava. The accumulator picks mainly steel arrows to your equip slot when you're moving around. The main use of this is the +4 ranged bonus, I think. Nothing else has this high bonus.
-
Animal Magnetism complete (reward)
wow i think it picked up a steel knife for me to... after like 20 arrows i got 1 steel knife i dont have any steel knives so this is a shock testing this thing out with every peice of armor.. now i wish i had a 3rd age melee plate... Yes, Ava said that it can pick up some other junk too. Seems as it's mainly steel arrows anyway.
-
Animal Magnetism complete (reward)
Yeah, +4 ranged bonus is awesome. And it picks steel arrows to your arrow slot, about once in 5 seconds. Could be handy bonus when doing a lot of running around. This items doesn't work when wearing any metallic body armour, says Ava after completing the quest. New one costs 999 coins and 75 steel arrows more to upgrade it to as good as the original reward. The accumulator weighs 5 kg, so I don't know if it's that efficient when for example rc'ing a lot. EDIT: Now I'm abyss crafting nature runes. I get 3 steel arrows per run. Doesn't seem good enough. I'll just switch back to my trusty spottier cape. Could be something for lower-levels if they'd wear it whole their RS careers. Of course for ranged training this is awesome because the highest possible cape bonus.

POLL: Highest Stat?
Mine is firemaking at 99, I believe. I don't think I have as much exp in cooking, fishing or thieving which are 99 too.

Favorite Quest (Hot Topic Yay :D)
For some reason I enjoyed the Darkness of Hallowvale quest greatly. I loved the maze thing, it was something new in RuneScape.

Cool Usernames 680+ replies and 24k+ views
For some weird reason I get many people daily congratulating me for my name. It's weird, they talk about some crazy old wizard from the tower and many have tried catching me too! Weird people, if you ask me. :?
