Huzzah for new games!
-
Archimage: Zax (Pronouced Zach) Sigil of Helia (The Power of the Sun contained with a long heavy mace), Human, age 31, Female.

Tibia!!!! Actually I have just got to the mainland...which is where I tend to lose interest...But anyway. Ummm, Civ 5 remains attrocious. Fallen Rising (Fall and Rise of Civilisation?) seems interesting.

I think the main reason people don't join the Tavern is that conversations go like this: Person A: [Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact][Opinion][Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact][Fact] Person B: Your opinion is wrong!
-
Its not a good place to discuss a new game Nex, since this thread is directed at finding ways to recruit people.
-
I said kind of...and some people could interpret as transsexualism... And...at the end of the day, we really don't care who or what you are, as long as you roleplay coherantly
-
Yup, it is not easy to move into a new area, especially when you have something other people don't like. However, since with have 3 people with Aspergus, at least one gay person, a female, a transexual(Well, kind of in Jen), manga fantics and other such groups...I think it is fairly safe to say that, while we might not approve of something, we don't let that interfere with roleplaying. The greater problem is joining when Hex has temporarily/forever quit...
-
You see, it is a general concept, entirely subject to interpretation. To me, it is Songhoi's Roll to Dodge, to Hex/Iconic it is a text based game. The problem is not with the Tavern...The Tavern does not prevent people from posting their own roleplaying games in any way shape and/or form. The problem is with the people who don't just join in...Honestly, what is the worst that could happen if you posted or PMed the mod with a question... It was how I joined, so I know it is possible. Retech, Icuownage, Ieyfura, Earthsage...They all joined the tavern by just posting.
-
Well...Dungeoneering is the basic concept set out by Songhoi: http://forum.tip.it/topic/206957-sonerohis-roll-to-dodge/ [hide]I'm starting up a roll to dodge for all those interested. It basically consists of the GM (myself) making a large, complex, and overly frustrating dungeon-like area, and you poor saps failing to navigate it (or are you guys not incompetent?). At the start all you get to do is choose appearance, and how you enter the first room. I'd like to wait for 3 or 4 people before starting the exploration, but until then feel free to make a move, thus an attempt at skill increase. Also, if you won't be active for a bit, have your move be ____ falls asleep. This lets me know that you are out of comission until I am otherwise notified. I will not be keeping a map for you guys, because it's a lot more fun for story development if someone messes up and thus splits the group in half, arguing over which room is right. [/hide] As such it is a general concept which people interpret in whatever way they choose and then use this interpretation to run a game. Also, I used to post long complicated rule guides...people didn't like them. And the rules for games are usually included in the Opening Post. Since most of them are freeform, though, the rules can be nothing but general and vague. When 3.5 and 4e DND rules were used the system was plagued with problems....and...at the end of the day I could start a new game of Dungeoneering in 12 minutes... If I wanted to start a game of Dungeons and Dragons I would need to plan a campaign taking hours...Which then would fall victim, as it has in the past, to people making sandwiches, connection problems and other small problems that make traditional roleplaying ineffably slow, boring and tedious. We are not operating on the assumption no one new is coming in...We are operating based on precedent and tradition. Something which becomes void three posts in when it occurs that something which the mod didn't inititally think comes up. Elsewise it is something we already do.
-
Seems like a bad idea. People already argue about battle reports... So, for it to work a map would have to be made and each side position their forces...then get scout information, which means they would change their deployment(else it would be worthless). And a good plan takes an hour or so to make...so you are looking at 2 hours...not including making the map.
-
Could easily take ages. I think the IRC idea is good for people who want to...But if one person wants to and the other person doesn't/can't then it should just be done via pm plans. Best o' both worlds.
-
Ah, the forum rules have been updated since I last looked =P Perhaps rewritting it as 'In roleplaying debates can sometimes get very heated, just remember, its only a game, no one's feelings need to be hurt.'
-
Good work overall. Minor changes: The Wikipedia entry...It could be done without. Via PM. (Preventing clogging) Already covered in the Forum Rules, constructive flaming is allowed by the forum rules and flaming is not commonly found in a way that contravenes the rules. The Roleplay types should have an advisory, since the games are not labelled 'Dungeoneering' or 'Hegemony' style. May cause minor confusion.
-
Sticky thread so far: I think we should try not to be afraid of frightening people and, instead, just be ourselves...People will join because they want to roleplay...not because we smiled at them when they looked around. And Iey joined a few months ago...
-
Nope, they are weapons.
-
22 kT 1 Tri-Barrelled Anti-Proton Beam and 3 mining lasers(Which are terrible against ships)
-
It seems rather redundant to have an 'Introduce yourself' part to the thread if it is never going to be touched again... Far better, if you feel it would intimidate new people, to forget the idea and just stick to the Forum Introduction and Rules...Or to use hide tags.
-
Hmmm, the risk there is thread necromancy aversion. Ie we all post in the next week or so, and then it never gets touched again. Also, the capacity for off topic discussion being what it is, the thread could get overburdened...and alot of replies is generally a detractor when people view 'offical' posts. Especially 'Offical posts' from yesteryear. Of course, hide tags would make the wall of text less intimidating.
-
Yeah, things start getting complicated when small items have values, since then weapons need values which means, if someone dies then they equipment needs replacing...Ect, ect...Too complicated and serves no real purpose. So, small items, which are not sold and such, are written off as freebies. Landing on a planet and going 'Here, have 500 rifles!' will invoke a cost though. Also, the Kirby has struck a large deposit of Uridium, around 25 kT. The choice is extract it between sessions, which means that only 20 kT of Raw Materials is mined. OR Extract it during session, which will take 3 hours.(9 hours with one laser)

Japan's Gambit Husk of Hegemony America or Broke The Swiss Takeover How I saved the World, part 1 Anthrax Begone
-
Space is a Hegemony-Dungeoneering Hybrid, since the Dungeoneering game has an impact on the Hegemony world. Beyond that I can't see a terribly good way to do it...because of the time difference. And starting a game of Hegemony inside a game of Dungeoneering...Dreaming within a dream? Zombie Apocalypse Hegemony set as a Dungeoneering game...If a mod could be found then much interest could be had.
-
Including every game is self defeating...but picking one or two turns it into a contest which everyone wants to be a part of. No matter what happens, someone is gonna end up upset. Hence why I think rolling the Rules and Introduction into one would be a good idea and leaving the 'Popular Roleplays' out of it. IF anything including long term members of the Tavern would be preferable, with a brief bit of information about them. That way any newcomer would be able to see who was who...Though this would require a high degree of honesty from people...as a dozen 'I am really nice and friendly' bios achieve nothing. Example: (The uninterests took the longest) It would need to be as honest as that...so people actually know what kind of a person you are. The Rules obviously need updating(since they were written when the Tavern was pre-natal, specifically with Hegemony in mind.) Though, realistically, the rules could be summerised as: -The Moderator has Defacto Control over a thread. -If there is a problem, discuss it in the Back-Room or via PM. -Follow the Tip It Rules. The Introduction... I think we should keep the theme, its dark, slightly wacky and smells of new, shared, experiences...They define the Tavern without directly relating to anyone, so no one has to disagree that they should have been included. Setting it as a friendly place, without the messes of off-topic postings, passed out topics and spills of creativity...It just makes the Tavern out to be something that it isn't...It is friendly because of the occassional hostility and randomness...Because we work together.

Well... Dungeoneering: A Roleplaying type where you take on the role as an individual, plunged into a scenario of the Moderators choosing. Examples include Pirates, Adventurers and Spacemen. Hegemony: A Roleplaying type where you take control of an Empire, usually the game is preceeded by a debate as to the setting. Examples include the Napoleonic Period, the Modern/Future Period and the Prehistoric Period. Zombie Survival: A Simulation in which you are asked what you would do immediately after a zombie takeover of the real world. (As a starter)

I think it is more that the Admin want to help us, some of us(myself included) don't see a huge need to advertise, while others of us(Such as Iconic) want to see the Tavern given as much as physically possible. @Earth: Well...We have Dungeoneering, Hegemony and the Zombie Survival thread types. I think...

Ah, I see, rolling the current array of sticky topics into one topic. I still have considerably doubts about 'Popular Roleplays' as we rarely go beyond the first page with active threads...and usually the opening post conveys all the information required...and experience indicates that it will fall into disuse relatively quickly....But it seems reasonable.
