Pretty much. Say you had a Uranium Nanite land on a big lump of Iron...It could make Iron copies of itself to its heart's content, but it couldn't make uranium copies of itself unless it had a supply of uranium.

Anything which has a high enough velocity or high enough mass will destroy a nanite made of a weak enough material...

New rules stop you using more than a ridiculously small number of quotes....

Delta V
Advantages: [quoe]Largely temperature resistant[quot] Check [quoe]Does not breath (Atmosphere doesn't matter)[quot] Check, though this means you don't get the oxygen bonus...and since Flourine will bind with most anything you will still need to build domes on those planets. [quoe] Metal bodied (Harder to kill) [quoe] Check [quoe] Lower moral effects (They weren't created, so were never given anything resembling emotion. I guess it developed to a limited extent, but not much) [quoe] Since they naturally evolved they have laws rather than emotions...but work in roughly the same way...IF X THEN Y UNLESS Z...ect. [quoe]Purely logic abiding (Efficiency increase I suppose)[quoe] Research penalty for lack of imagination. [quoe] Semi-Hivemind (A few AIs, but each one controls a lot of individuals as an extension of themselves. I guess each AI would be allocated it's own settlement) [quoe] Ok... [quoe]Technologically advanced (Better at learning to use technology and any effects which come with that)[quoe] Ok, if you see a weapon or tech in action(unless it defys the laws of physics) you get a bonus in reseaeching it. [quoe] Disease resistant (Mechanical body) [quoe] Check. Disadvantages: [quoe]Higher average colonisation costs (As stated above)[quoe] Check [quoe] Semi-Hivemind (If one AI rebels, the entire settlement does.)[quoe] Hmmm, I would say concenus rules...Sort of like pure democracy, everything is checked with all the AIs in a settlement and then a decision is reached. [quoe] Lower moral effects (No glorious war speeches rallying troops to victory) [quoe] Check [quoe] EMP vulnerability [quoe] Check [quoe] New settlements need a new AI[quoe] Extra building needed, check. [quoe] When he means troop strength, is that how effective troops are or how muscular they are? Like would it matter for a psionic race? [quoe] Higher gravity = more muscle and faster metabolism...So they are mildly more efficent all round. [quot]Mine don't count as mechanical right? Since each nanite does neither contain heating or moving parts.[/quoe] Nanites generally aren't effected by heat, unless it melts them. And nanites have multiple moving parts.... [quoe] But streptococci don't interact with each other (as far as I can tell), but your nanothings do. Also streptococci still have all the basic organelles, which means they do in fact have moving parts. And as Ross mentioned, they still need to respire and would require fuel. [quot] OMG! Rocco and Science! Hehe, but yeah, Nanites compared to blood cells:

Would be helpful. Mechanical races have higher colonisation costs, equivilant to not having an ideal planet. Since you need filtered air for cooling, or heating elements for heating, depending on how functional your computers are at any given time. That...and your inhabitance are constructs.
-
Delta V
Did you post your race yet? And people can inhabit any planet, developments are customisable, so temperature and such can be set lower or higher than outside...it just costs more.
-
Delta V
Implying that there are more than 10 developments on a planet... Implying that planets with an average above 373(100 centigrade) kelvin has oceans.

Meh, doesn't really make any difference to me. Licht have two castles. Thinkers and doers. Thinkers are Green, Doers of Black. Result of a war with a powerful psionic entity that split the race from their brown orgins. For more info: http://wiki.uqm.stack.nl/Ur-Quan

A magic gene that causes intelligence of 900% average, a much weaker structure and practically a different speices.... Simple point and click weapons then...You start addind varriable settings and you are gonna have guns blow up.
-
Delta V
Mkay. Using genders as caste systems is just adding confusion... Breeding two distinct castes is gonna take alot of inbreeding, so your race would have a tonne of defects. Simple weapons: Ok, limit on using any kind of advanced weaponary.

Sigh.... Reasonable... The inflated limbs could explode under too much strain, but the same is true of human muscle...only difference is that a human muscle wouldn't explode the skin away... It would be considerably easier to just disconnect those pathways in the brain, rather than suppressing them using genetics. The link between brains and genitalia is yet to be proved... A much simpler explaination is that males developed along an intellectual line, females developed along a psionic line. Females use their psionic ability to control the males and use their mental capacity as their own, making the males dumb. Females force the males to work out, hunt and such, instead of read and research...Since the females can do that and use the male brains as dumping grounds for memories and such. Meaning that, even though they are capable of intelligence, the males remain dumb. Would also explain why the females had above average IQs... Advantages: Females above normal stats: Check Females resistance: Its slightly elevated. Males are fast and strong: Check, instictively they still have their intelligence, but can't access it consciencously. Kelp Architecture: Check. Bioships: They can carry more troops, but the deployment limit is still 2,000. Disadvantage: Strength: Check. Male Psionically weak: Check. Nurients: They are enforced omnivores...not really a disadvantage. Bioships: Research takes 20 years to actually take effect on ships. Bioships: Non-Bioships, made by the Licht, are 75% weaker than counterparts from other empires. Architecture: Same Male Pours: Check Simple weapons: Examples?

Basing your argument on one strand is kinda flawed. Dogs ~ Cats. Cats have four legs, as do Dogs. Dogs = Four legs with tail and whiskers = Cat. Cat + Cat + Gestation = Cat = Dog. Therefore I can use a Dog to make a Cat.

I had sort of reasoned that bit. However it is like me saying External, Plasma CPUs/Harddrives/AIs. It doesn't explain how something which is effectively mindless and nerveless would produce a computer.

I don't understand the concept Mather.... Though one squirt of Detol and half your city just had a blackout.

No globle spanning super computers...or if they are then they need multiple personalities. Having one super computer would mean you were playing Dungeoneering while everyone else was playing Hegemony.
-
Delta V
No. It would be like a laser-dampener due to rogue laser beams roaming the planet. You can get a higher resistance, but not immunity. If you want...

Hmmmm. If an electronic computer was gonna evolve naturally then you would be looking at Starfish like evolution. That being that each arm has an independent network of nerves, the only reason they are linked together is that they meet at a mouth...Thus you get multiple brains, with multiple personalities, working together. Thus, supposing that the beings evolved on a planet with high copper or silver(Low resistivity to current) deposits, they could have used the silver/copper as Skeletons and Nerves...Then, over time, random genetic mutations within the independant networks developed into operating systems... They could then combine into larger organisms by merging nerve conductors...since the different arms have different systems, the race would be more or less capable of doing this. They would be analogue computers though, so directly interfacing with digital computers would required a converter. [/random thought]

The scripted Hegemony
To my mind, this game would be kinda like playing chess, with the rules changed everytime a move was made. Same as Retech's Hegemony, each time you used a weapon or tech it changed in its ability by such a wide measure the game was impossible to play.

Napoleonic Hegemony
OCC: I think you mean 'Demand payment in blood' What you said was that, for killing your army you are gonna pay them with the lives of your soliders.

"You can't direct the wind, but you can adjust you sails." There is no truer lesson in life than this.

Napoleonic Hegemony
THOMAS JEFFERSON! ! >.< You've: Annoyed me. Annoyed Retech. Annoyed Dungeonal. Hehe I created a Triangle Anywho. King Frederick has taken to wearing a black armband for the rest of the year. King Frederick also makes a powerful speech condemning the continued war. The main focus of the speech is on how overseas empires cause nothing but suffering for their mother country. He apportions most of the blame to America, since a treaty was already signed when they sought alliance with Spain to attack the British with no reasonable justification for war. He finally calls for an end to hostilities before more innocents are killed.

Probably, would mean you didn't colonise planets but developed migrant fleets.
-
The scripted Hegemony
I think there are two problems: 1 No one wants to play a game where combat is disallowed 2 No one wants to play a game where the gameplay is scripted to such a high degree that you can't be creative without tedium.

Licht: Humanoid Amphibians would not evolve from marine plant life...Be like Humans evolving from Tulips. Sentient plant life would carry on after the Licht had evolved onwards...So either the Licht Genocided the Sentient Kelp or the Sentient Kelp is secretly the dominate power... Crystal clear water would kill the kelp. Even with crystal clear water, light would not manage to travel several thousand feet. A plant evolving to eat other plants...Simple matter of 'Why?' Plant skin...especially marine plant skin...would not be resistant to toxins... Why would they need stomach acid...or throats...they are plants. The quality of the skin poses no evolutionary benefits on a planet with crystal clear water... A total lack of metal/chemical research for the major part of their evolution would have far greater impact than more expensive houses or a happiness penalty. Why would the males compete? The sea is a huge area, you settle down for any length of time and you will be at a disadvantage over the roaming ones. Why would the females be more intelligent than standard humans? They are in an environment with few natural enemies and lots of resources, being clever doesn't help them much...Being easily distracted with attractively placed kelp would help them because it would distract them from their tedious existance...So culturally they would be light years ahead. Advantages: Hazmat skin: Pretty much the opposite...Licht would be at heavy disadvantage out of water, so resistances to fire, gas and chemicals would be greatly reduced. Physically they would be stronger, since they have no skeletal structure. And biologically they would be weak because genetic faults in one of them would probably by present in all of them...It would mean they could recover from a biological disaster pretty fast(Virus kills 99% of the population, the other 1% reproduce rapidly with the immunity)...But if someone developed a virus, or one naturally occured, then the Licht would be hit hard. Mindless Males: There are outliers in every speices...So a male could be born and would be unsuspected by the females. More than that, realistically males would have very powerful subconscience minds, since most everything is instinctal...So the females being super intelligent would be like monkeys being controlled by scientists...Scientist can put them in cages, but can't actually control them. Bio-ships: Would need to be fed to regenerate, and would be a disadvantage, since all worlds produce materials for building ships. Plant legacy: Redundant Kelp Architecture: Ok, any planet which have a temperature average of 300 Kelvin or less has 50% cheaper buildings. However planets with an average temperature under 265 Kelvin cost trice as much to colonise(Need space heaters to heat the ice into water to produce kelp.) Disadvantages: Hazmat skin: So you are saying that if they are injured there is the 95% chance they are dead? Mindless males: See monkey analogy. Pheremones are a terrible idea in water due to dispersion. Bio Ships: Pretty major disadvantage, as stated. Kelp Depedance: I would say that planets with an average over 300 Kelvin cost twice as much to colonise, but after that are fine(since you will build a water filled dome and grow kelp). However the capacity to harvest other resources is severly limited, so 50% of the speed and in 25% Industy. All in all...Your race seems to have a lot more disadvantages...and considerably more severe disadvantages...than advantages.
