  1. firstly have your friend go to windows update You have no service packs or the latest version of internet explorer. windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install all ctrical updates even if your friend does not use internet explorer, you still need to have the latest version.
  2. did you uninstall sp2 (the first time) from add-remove program list? if not you may have missed a file which winupdate looks for to see if you have the update or not. Or just download sp2 striaght from the main page.
  3. did you restart your computer after installing the updates? then scan for updates again.
  4. i don't know anything on nortan, can't help ya, sorry. Aol spyware doesn't pick up much since it doesn't scan for alot. Still good to have though. For all your scans make sure you update them regularly with the newest definitions. Spybot has an imuninize button that can stop some spyware from getting on your pc in the first place. :D Use it.
  5. dude you sound like you don't care about your pc sercurity. Might as well say "PLEASE HACK ME" get spybot AND ad-aware, and posibly microsoft antispyware beta. For a firewall i recamend Zonealarm free edition. http://www.zonelabs.com install all critical updates! it is important to keep your pc patched!
  6. i don't see why everyone has problems with microsoft. Yes, i do know there are WAY to many holes in windows. I have never had windows crash on me, even through all the sercurity updates.
  7. so should i set mine to 8 then? witht eh other tweaks that are on that site? I am on dsl with a new, fast computer (amd atholon 2.2ghs) and firefox is very slow. My dsl is at 1.5-2 mps! and take for ever Like merc said will i get ip banned from some sites (such as here, runescape, a few others) for chanrging those settings?
  8. why did you bump a thread up that was like 8 months old? :?
  9. oh thats good :D Now you have enough HD space to put your games back on there. And enough to install SP2 for windows if you have not. :D
  10. world swiching programs are ileagil to talk about here and are on runescape also. Most programs for runescape have keyloggers in them also.
  11. i installed firefox right from http://www.getfirefox.com. the newest version 1.0.3 I have a firewall which is zonealarm free edition. no i do not have a router no i dont have windows firewall on
  12. i hate AOL too, just my mom wants that same e-mail. I have that on top of my ISP. I want to same other ideas please. Last time my mom called AOL she was on hiold for a half hour.

if you realy want to look cool from smoking buy a pack of CANDY cigeretes. A lot safer and cheaper  Smoking is nasty :x
  14. I know nothing about msn but it seems very odd. I would try uninstalling msn and then reinstall it. Before you unstall it make sure you have the installation cd. I have msn from my ISP but don't use. On my computer it only takes around 700mb.
  15. Windows update does not crash a computer. When sp2 was first released it did have some bugs, but there all fixed (or most of them). The piont is it is critical that you update windows with sp2 and all critical updates. Your computer is in danger if you don't. I am still interested in how almost 70gb of space on your HD is used :? . Someone else said this but make sure all your scanning tools are updated before you scan.
  16. i have noticed that zonealarm does not lock IE for me. I will not just use IE though because i hate it  . It how ever locks firefox which i use as my main browser for everything. Anybody have any ideas how to fix this?
  17. do you have music saved on your computer? This happend on my old computer i had alot of music on it which made my HD fill up. If you have music you can copy them to blank cd's (im guessing you have a cd burner) and then delete them from your computer. Like someone else said 70gb is alot of space, there must be something like a virus i suspect. Currently I'm using only 20gb of my HD. :)
  18. you press the quote button in the corner of someone's post. I think the quote's are disabled still from the sercurity threats let's see
  19. please update your HJT it is very out of date. The current verion is 1.99.1 http://merijn.org/downloads.html Then post a new log
  20. I have found out it is a total firewall problem now. Zone Alarm is completling locking actcess to the internet. I checked all the seyyings and none would make it do that. I only way I am now is with my firewall disabled, which is a bad idea. Any ideas to stop this? Should i swich firewalls if i absultly have to?
  21. My internet has been locking up on me. Which means i am conected to the internet but it will not let me go to any website. On aol (version 9.0 sercurity se) it will get to the 2nd step and just won't connect. I believe my firewall is causing the problem. I have Zone Alarm free edition. When i disable the firewall the problem goes away on AOL atleast :? . here's a HJT log just incase (sorry it's kinda long :P ) Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 10:30:26 PM, on 4/23/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\WINDOWS\system32\services[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXPPS[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\ACS\AOLAcsd[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\TopSpeed\2.0\aoltsmon[Caution: ExecutableFile] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsrte[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\Common Files\New Boundary\PrismXL\PRISMXL.SYS C:\WINDOWS\Explorer[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstray[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\WINDOWS\zHotkey[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PDVDServ[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\PROGRA~1\VERIZO~1\SMARTB~1\MotiveSB[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\ACS\AOLDial[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\AOLSPY~1\AOLSP Scheduler[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\WkUFind[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasServ[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshld[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\Logitech\MouseWare\system\em_exec[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent[Caution: ExecutableFile] c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsescn[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\bin\jusched[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\gcasDtServ[Caution: ExecutableFile] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcshield[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\110521~1\EE\AOLHOS~1[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\110521~1\EE\AOLServiceHost[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\vsmon[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\America Online 9.0a\waol[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\America Online 9.0a\shellmon[Caution: ExecutableFile] C:\Program Files\hijackthis\HijackThis[Caution: ExecutableFile] R1 - 23. rollerblading at the skatepark or just around th block. The best, nice and peacefull just riding. Or after it rains on a summer day and it's hot outside. Then just go outside and do something.
  24. because they "track" you. I am not sure but i think to track what your doing on their site. Can someone confirm this? They are prety harmless if don't want ad-aware to find them just delete your history before you scan.
  25. yes, well sort of. When you scan copy and paste the log EXACTLY how it is there. I noticed that you only have service pack1 for windows it is urgent that you go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install all critical updates
