A modest suggestion.
Ok, I've thought about this for a bit and I'm not sure if it's a good idea, that's why I decided to run it by you fine folks. Many people complain about many things in the present state of runescape. Prices have dropped on too many items and skyrocketed on too many others, new players are at a severe disadvantage, etc. While I do not agree with some of these grievences, others are certainly well founded. My solution: Restart Runescape. Ok Ok, let me explain before you light up the flame gun. Take a few, maybe 5 - 10 worlds (1 or 2 members), and turn them into a clean slate. You would have to create a new account to play on these worlds, and that account could not play on the pre-existing worlds and pre-exsting accounts could not play on these worlds. The pros: Everyone (at the time of world creation) starts out on equal footing. Things like rune and dragon become rare again. No rares, for people who dislike rares. Personally I think it would be fun to play where everyone starts out on equal footing since I wasn't aware of runescape in it's earliest days. Does not affect the players who wish to remain on the present system. The Cons: This is a temporary fix. Those worlds will inevitably end up like the present runescape universe. Does not help people who come after the world switch. I'm sure there are others. A Possible solution to these cons could be that after a certain amount of time, the players are given the option of joining the mainstreme runescape world, and the clean slate worlds reset again. I find this solution unsatisfying but it's all I can come up with at the time. Discuss?

Slayer oddities
I got the same assignment and thought it odd.

Another option for public chat...
As for the trading thing, private chat on hide solves the problem. The trades show up in the chat window but none of the speech does. And I agree with the thread starter as well. It is practically impossilbe to have a conversation while smithing cannon balls or anything for which a message pops up frequently.

The bad habit of begging
I agree, I never ever reward beggars. Ever. If someone puts forth even a little effort though, I try to be as helpful as I can. If I see someone shouting "Need 1 law, free plz." I don't give them a second glance. But if I see someone saying "Need 1 law, 200gp" I'll gladly give it to them, and in many cases for free if they'll take it. And as for your "Who starts off as a rich high lvl in rs?" This raises another question in my mind. I've had 3-4 friends in the past months start new accounts because their old accounts were hacked -- they got the account back, but all their stuff was gone... am I the only one who thinks this makes no sense? You lost all your material possessions so the logical conclusion you reach so you decide to start from scratch instead of using the ONE THING the hackers couldn't take: your skills. They don't get this when I try to explain it to them.

World of Offline Gamming
That was freaking fantastic. And the artwork at the end is rather impressive too.

Do NOT use ring of wealth when getting pouches
Dwarfie, your analysis is very nearly correct, but I *think* that a Bernoulli Random Variable better describes the situation. Poisson variables are generally for continuous cases (ie, your cars passing through an intersection in X minutes) whereas Bernoulli Random Variables are more of a discrete case kinda thing (ie, how many coin flips result in heads out of 20). Since I don't want to take over the thread, PM me if you like and we can continue this excellent mathematical discussion.

Do NOT use ring of wealth when getting pouches
The abyss is a weird place and I wouldn't find it too surprising to learn that ROW has a negative affect there. But in general, I feel my drops are better with it than without it. As for the stats: 1 in 10 drop rate yields the following probability: After killing 10 monsters, the probability of getting AT LEAST one drop is Sum( (10 choose n)*.1^n*.9^(10-n), n=1 to 10) = 65.1% After killing 10 monster, the probability of getting EXACTLY one drop is: (10 choose 1)*.1*.9^(9) = 38.7% Google Bernoulli Random Variable to find out more about Runescape's most used kind of probability.

Sulpher Vents (lock please)
Interestingly, by the rules of logic, this statement both makes sense and is true. The sky is in fact blue or green. (Just a tidbit and I do take your intended point)

interesting numbers in the RS world
[nitpicky mathematician] Fermat Primes are primes of the form 2^(2^n)+1, for n a non-negative integer. Thus n=0 => 2^(2^0)+1 = 2+1 = 3, so technically 3 is the first Fermat prime. [/nitpicky mathematician] Good list though, I like it :)!

How many quests have you done (or left to do)
I just finished my last one yesterday, Devious minds. Spent Friday night getting my RC up to 50 so I could finally do it. I have absolutely no idea how many other people have completed them all.

an incredible coincidence
A fun picture :) Although I'm not convinced that randoms are too random. I've been at firegiants more than once, when about 3-4 people there get the MOM all within about 10 seconds of each other. Perhaps they just cycle through everyone on the server every X minutes and hav a Y% chance of giving a random to the person they're on... hmmmm....[/musings]

Moral question..
It's been said many a time, but it bears repeating: You did the right thing. If people ask me if they can borrow my things, I ALWAYS tell them yes they can, if they give me collateral. None of my friends have ever complained about that policy. I have lent a few things out this way and always got them back. Same thing for money too, I'll lend friends money for collateral, and we agree upon a length of time that I can't sell the items for, but after that if I need the money and they haven't returned it then I'm free to sell it to recoup my losses. It seems strict, but since I hold everyone to that standard, nobody seems to mind.

Secretest place in RS?
As for the rogues castle in high wild, I know lvl 3 clues take you out there from time to time. My votes are both islands: Crash Island, farthest point from the crashed plane. There is nothing else on the island as far as I know. And the island from Ghost's Ahoy quest. There's not a whole lot there, and you need ecto tokens to get there I think.

Improving chatting
I like everything except option 2, imagine if everyone constantly had something over their head in the marketplace. It would be too jumbled to read.

Expierence formula
I don't suppose you'd accept a piecewise function: Honestly, Ithink it'd just be easier to look them up in a table than try to find a formula for that. If I have a bit of spare time I'll keep working on it though.

doing clue scrolls
Some require Plague City, others, Regicide, I know for sure. Also two require troll romance/stronghold. For quite a few you don't have to finish the quest, just start it. I think there may be a few more, most of the ones I was thinking up there are coordinate clues, but there are definately some NPC's that you have to talk to for clues which require quests to get there.

Liven up slayer a bit!
I like this idea. It's a fun new twist on the previously proposed idea of xp bonus for completing a slayer task. Well done.

removing the stat cap
I think you grossly underestimate the rate at which xp required for leveling increases. If ALL of lilyuffie88's xp points (the highest total xp of anyone) were placed into a single skill, and if you can trust extrapolation of xp values past 99, then she would have exactly 1 skill that is level 135. Alternatively if divided between the 7 combat level affecting skills, she would have lvl 115 atk, str, def, hp, pray, ranged, and magic. My best guess is that this isn't even over level 150. Even true blue no lifers would have a very hard time getting past 105 in any skill (106 would be like getting 99 twice). One could argue that competition of this form already exists in the form of XP, since there is no cap. But I definately take your point on this one. Honestly I'd kinda like to see the level cap removed just to see how high anyone would ever manage to get. Sanity would have to give at some point  !

Bonus XP for finishing Slayer assignments
I would love that. Although it'd be tough finding a balance between giving enough of a bonus to make it worthwhile and not giving so much as to make it really easy. As it stands, I usually kill 1 trip worth of Iron drags when I get that assignment (around 30 or 40), and I never do Kurasks or Turoths. I hate that stupid leaf bladed spear!

Reforging?
I definately like the idea. I don't know how you'd deal with things like the single bar things. Maybe it could be random like you have a 50% chance of getting 1 bar back for each bar an item took to make. Example: A med helm could have: 0 bars back - 1/2 = 50% 1 bar back - 1/2 = 50% A plate body would have: 0 bars back - 1/32 = 3.1% 1 bar back - 5/32 = 15.6% 2 bars back - 5/16 = 31.3% 3 bars back - 5/16 = 31.3% 4 bars back - 5/32 = 15.6% 5 bars back - 1/32 = 3.1% And so on in this fasion. It would make smithing a little easier, for sure, but it may also eliminate the huge amount of items that people have to make in order to smith things. It would eliminate the need to sell the items you smith, but would also be less profitable to resmith rather than sell the items in most cases. Also, as far as xp goes. I'd be an advocate of either one of these two options: 1: You recieve no XP for melting down items into bars, but smithing the bars gives normal xp. 2: You recieve a small amount of XP for melting down items, but are unable to do so until you reach a level halfway to the next metal (i.e. you can melt bronze down at level 7, Iron at 22, steel at 40, mith at 60, addy at 80, and rune... maybe 95, maybe higher?) Definatetly something I'd like to see instated. I'd also like to hear about negative rammifications, as I am generally not too good at thinking of those kinds of things.

Tip.It Times: Jagex interfering?
A policy which they no longer have because it wasn't a good policy. Would it be hypocritical for US women to complain if they were asked not to vote in any upcomming elections because it used to be the policy that they couldn't?

Tip.It Times: Jagex interfering?
I do think the request is somewhat out of line for JAGeX, but they are perfectly allowed to request whatever they what of whomever they wish. Tip.it is also at liberty to honor or deny that request. I'm sure they have their reasons for honoring the request, and from the reasons I've heard on the forums I don't have a problem with them doing so. There is something to be said for respect amongst peers, although I feel tip.it has shown much more respect to JAGeX in this matter than vice verse. The fundamental problem with JAGeX's complaint on "guide noobs" is that any problem with a single unique solution is going to be "guidable." That is, any puzzle that can be solved in exactly the same way by many people is liable to have a guide written about it. This is why people hate puzzle boxes so much because even if you know the goal, there's not really a guide for getting there. Conclusion: JAGeX needs to implement more puzzles that can be randomized for each player, like the slide puzzles. Things like "Lights out", "Rubik's Cube", and many other similar puzzles could easily be implemented and bypass the guiding problem.
