  1. well now that i know you dont know basic economics, this makes things more difficult. people dont borrow from the government (well, in theway you said it). the government lowered interest rates which the banks and financial institutions all had to follow. take for example your local savings and loan. you can get a loan for a house or a car from there and get a certain interest rate on it. this interest rate was set by the government at way to low of rates, so everyone started to borrow from the loaners, and the interest rates were set so the loaners couldnt really do anything about it. when they started to call in the debt, no one had money to pay it back. and then the banks couldnt pay back their debt either, and then all hell broke lose. if the government wouldnt have set such a low interest rate, then not as many people could borrow money. only the people who need to borrow woudl borrow then, and they wouldnt go crazy investing it whereever they want.

heh, i thought this topic was about canada day, which is today!
  3. if you had read what i wrote, you would know i explained exactly that. the GOVERNMENT put its nose into buisness, creating artificially low interest rates, and everyone began to borrow when the economy couldnt support it. they invested all this money they borrowed into stocks, bonds, anything they could. once the loans needed to be repaid and the money didnt exist to repay them, the government raised interest rates extremely high to curb all borrowing, and te stock market crashed. if the government was never in it at all, then interest rates would have never been that low, and not everyone would have got extremely bad debt. the great depression would have never happened if the government hadnt intervened.
  4. uh, what new rpg elements?
  5. to topic starter: just so you know that yellow font sticks out a lot more than the normal font on the black background, so my eyes went right to it. but ive seen the old version of the movie and read the book, so there wasnt really any suprises. im going to go see it tommorow, tom cruise is my favorite actor.
  6. yes, most of the laws were stupid, and are still stupid, because stupid people were elected into office because they spouted stupid gibberish at the stupid masses that decided to vote them in. unemployment and social security and the other things fdr put into effect all steal from the productive workers and give to the lazy unemployed people. i dont see how that makes any sense, but the general masses think that they benefit from being made to pay taxes for programs that dont affect them at all. the economy would have gotten better by itself if it was left alone completely (the main problem was that they were messing with it anyways by artificial interest rates and abandoning the gold standard) because with an economic system that is planned, if the central planner screws up, everything gets screwed up. if it was just left alone, the people who screw up only screw up them selves and the rest of the people are ok. and for the record, i got most of this from an articles by nathaniel branden and alan greenspan, who probably know more about economics than any of us.

the view system sucks. and its hard to walk sometimes, it doesnt register your click. and many times you can lose soemthing a monster dropped because another one will be on top of it. but i still like it, i just hope they do soem fixes soon.
  8. hoover got us into the great depression. fdr kept us there. and who are you to judges how long the great depression should have happened? i dont think it should of happened at all, and it wouldnt have if the government at the time wasnt turning socialist, and was trying to completely control the economy by keeping an artificial economic boom. the government set interest rates irrationaly low, so everyone started to invest more and more, and then once some of the bills started to come in no one had any money. the government then raised the interest rates extremely high to stop borrowing, and that put many buisnesses out of buisness, and many people into bankruptcy. after doing that, fdr decides that since socialism got us into the great depression, lets blame it on capitalism and see how socialist we can go to get out of the great depression. so instead of letting the economy get better by itself, he decided he should control it. he then instituted many different laws including extremely high minimum wages onto american buisnesses, so that unskilled labor was earning much more than it should be. the buisnesses couldnt stay in buisness like this, so many failed and all the people were out of work. and instead of taking away all these stupid laws on buisnesses, he decides that he should worry about all the unemployed people who wont help at all in getting the country going again. so he creates social security. now all those unemployed people are getting paid for doing absolutly nothing, and all the money comes from taxing the people who are working. the people who are workign are already having trouble with increased prices in everything because buisness had to increase the prices to stay in buisness anymore, so the working people took the brunt of the assualt. now what did fdr do to get us out of the great depression? nothing. all he did was make it last longer, and made a lot of stupid laws that should have been previewed before put into effect, and should have been repealed once people saw what they did to ruin the country. instead people celebrated with fdr for "saving" us from the great depression.
  9. finally someone i agree with Reagan did nothing but put us into more poverty in the long run JFK is overrated he got to be president because of tv and he did not accomplish anything he promised (civil liberty, direct relief... etc.) FDR would be #1 for me ashington and lincoln are okay too you complain about reagan putting us into poverty, and the you say FDR is #1? fdr screwed up the economic system more than any otehr president left. he caused us to stay in the great depression a lot longer than it should have lasted.

just decided i wanted to play a mmorpg again, and after looking through all of the free ones i was quite dissapointed, and thought i might go back to this one or kal online, but i found one called "thang global" and i actually enjoy it. so even if i didnt like knight online, it did make me want to get into a game again so it gets props for that

  12. 8 hours of work a day, 5 days a week (mowing and trimming grass, and digging holes, and a lot of hard work, but i like it) 5 hours of work a night, wednesday and friday (washing dishes, easy, just have to stand for 5 hours straight) and soon to be 6 hours of work at night (start at 9 at night, so i dont get home till late), monday, tuesday, and thursday (collating/binding, so 6 hours of standing up and constantly doing the same thing over and over and over...) other than that i sleep and hang out with friends on saturday nights.
  13. So? I was like 2 weeks away from being 19... yeah im 18 and a half and i havent
  14. i have a lot of trees blocking my view, so i wont be able to see it from my house. oh well, did anyone get any pictures of it last night?
  15. a lot of people seem to have trouble with backing up with a trailer, but i dont really understand why. i thought it was quite easy, just dont go to fast and do everythign backwards
  16. the derek and thd dominoes version is awesome, i like it better than the acoustic.
  17. just backing up the car for his dad. he wasnt going to drive anywhere.
  18. long drives. anymore than 20 minutes and i get so bored i want to do someting interesting, like swerving over into the oncoming lane and play chicken, or swerve the other way and play chicken with the trees.

    get a cat.
  20. some one i know was backing out of his driveway when he was about 15 years old, somehow lost control and ran into a house. he is 19 now and hasnt tried to drive a car since. at least you know it was just an accident, and will get back on your feet and go. just be a little more cautious from now on
  21. me also.
  22. i work at a cemetery, and about a third of the time im sitting down mowing (trimming the other times mostly, but that is standing up for around 4 hours and walkiung around and carrying a grass trimmer, so that wouldnt be good for you). if you live in a place that has a pretty big cemetary, they usually hire a few people. you could just say that you cant stand up for long, and they might just put you on mowing. theres always other stuff to do too, you might try there. alternatively, babysit. i know it may sound like a stupid job to do, but you can usually sit the kids down in front of the tv and just sit there. and it doesnt pay bad (usually) either.
  23. Adding an "extra" part to your avatar in addition to the normal wouldnt be that big of a deal, and neither would having a custom avatar title. so i dont think its a bad idea to offer those to people who donate. the bioware forum just gives you a small extra for purchasing their game, (along with the use of an avatar, but well assume that we can still do everything we can already do, just have extra for donating), it just adds the title of a game of theirs you bought to their avatar example a way to incorporate somethign like that onto these forums would be have a list under your avatar, and maybe how much you donated, or seperate the forum and website, and have a "forum donater" and "website donater" titles in addition to your title for post count.
  24. sounds like a good idea, keeping the board seperate from the site. be even better if we could donate to a certain forum since all i use is off topic, but thats not a feasible idea
