Warhammer 40k anyone? (a good hobby) pics in side
Expensive? Yes. Fun? HELL YES. My friend has an enormous space marine army, a tau army, tyranid, and necron army. Its not quite fun when he uses the necron army with a C'Tan, however. Those things are MEAN.

the advent of chinese farming in Runescape
Actually, its not racist because 1) It's true that most of these companies are based in china and employ chinese workers (obviously) 2) The non-macroing lvl 3 chars can't fluently speak english but can converse well with me in chinese 3) I'm chinese, so it wouldn't really be racism. And yes, the pay is so low that it might as well be slavery. But discussions about the sweatshops and China's economic power being dependent on sweatshop labor is a whole 'nother can of worms.

lol just go to any f2p server and check either yews right south of falador or aubury (the rune ess teleport guy in varrock) xiao, qui, liao, hui, any names like that. you'll find tons.

If by that you mean what do the companies pay the people who do the actual clicking, they're paid in yuan (chinese currency) I assume. As for how well, they're most likely on sweatshop levels of pay. Or if you mean what do people pay for RS gp, you'd have to check ebay, i don't remember how much gp is going for in dollars these days.

For those of you that know some stuff about WoW, then you probably know what I'm talking about. Chinese companies where hundreds, maybe thousands of people are paid to sit there and do something menial, like mining ess or cutting yews, which are then converted to gp and sold for actual money on ebay or other sites. Of course, some of these chinese farm companies also probably use macros as well. Thoughts?

Is human society screwed? (new topic name)
Technically, an incorruptible dictatorship is the best way. Absolute power corrupts absolutely? Maybe not. Yea, leave it up to one person [like you] to decide everything that goes on in my country. I'll take option two. Notice the number of people that bothered to comment on your useless flame. That's because the wittiness of his post left us speechless. I bet it did. You were apparently too speechless to make a meaningful contribution to this conversation. Runesmithie, I know what a hegemon is, per se (the U.S. as an increasingly less dominant one), but i had no idea what he meant by a hegemonic council, and why it wouldn't have anything to gain.

Elaborate? I've never heard of a Hegemon Council. The only thing google turned up for me is a MIT website about a hegemonic federation of planets that sounded like Star Trek.

Is human society screwed? (new topic name)
I agree that it's by no means a perfect system, but in terms of politics it's a relatively new concept. Frankly it's so overwhelmed with the current problems throughout the world. I refuse to accept that it's a completely broken system though. The idea behind the UN isn't what I think is broke. But I can't think of anything good the UN does... I'm reading a book on that at the moment, let me get back to you on that  Off the top of my head though i'm sure some of the arms embargoes etc. have had some effect. I might be wrong though. The U.N. isn't the worst idea to ever come through the international scene (coughLeagueofNationscough) but i would agree that they're hamstrung in major decisions by the Security Council, which seems so often defined by the directly opposite views of the U.S. from Russia or China.

Exactly. Communism/Socialism promotes mediocrity, whereas capitalism promotes competition and therefore excellence. Its fairly simple to see which will produce a more thriving economy. Chris, you act as if capitalism and democracy are mutually exclusive. One is a broad political system (broad meaning there are several sub-classes of democracies) and one is an economic system. They work together... No, i'm not saying they're mutually exclusive. But i'm saying that in conjunction, they fail.

I might as well answer all the people who responded to me directly in one topic. 1) This topic wasn't started as an argument (i argued with mercifull because he was being a jerk) 2) Yes, I'm aware that the U.S. is a variation of democracy, a republic. And it fails in conjunction with capitalism. 3) Again, this topic is a question. My statements about various systems failing I am willing to defend. I guess my argument is that a comibned system of capitalism and democracy/republic fails because of capitalism's inevitable corruption of a deomcratic/republic society. I'm guessing that the only way to truly have a successful system is through a benevolent tyranny that ruthlessly regulates a capitalist economic society. Yes, Sweden does work. But Sweden is also a SMALL country. As Invidious says, imagine the hell in applying that to the U.S.

read an article? what article? You don't exactly explain how my arguments are flawed. You misunderstand my topic- it wasn't so much "we're all doomed" as a "we're never going to find a system of government that can work within human society. So lets hear you tell me more about how i'm flawed and less about how smart you are because you *didn't* read what you wrote in an article.

Is human society screwed? (new topic name)
Socialism doesn't work because greed and self interest is an undeniable part of human society. The greater good immediately breaks down into, well capitalism. Capitalism fails because (especially free-market capitalism) the concept of self-interest eventually serving the greater interest, well, fails. Miserably. Corporations are living proof of that. Democracy fails because inevitably, as proven by the U.S., government eventually ceases to exist to serve its citizens but exists to exist. The focus of our government is to continue its existence. Politicians pander to corporate and private interests (Exxon, Haliburton, etc) because they can't survive any other way. Without money and support from those interests, they don't have enough money to fund their campaigns and get reelected. Most of the focus of a House of Reps or Senate member is on reelection, not policymaking. Am I just hopelessly cynical? Or is the only way for society to function in a truly benevolent way to have rule through one benevolent tyrant? And even if that tyrant is corrupt, evil and ruthless, at least they'd be honest about it? Maybe the conspiracy theory of the Illuminati is not a theory, but a dream. Thoughts?

F2p melee training: rune scimmy vs. baxe
Another thing I considered: bringing a baxe/r2h and a scimmy, and using the baxe/r2h for the first hit then switching to the scimmy. I've tried doing a quick switch between the two weapons to get faster and higher hits in. No idea how well its working. Most of the time it seems like i'm slowing my attack rate down.

F2p melee training: rune scimmy vs. baxe
The scimmy hits faster, the axe hits harder. I'm not sure if you should make different considerations based on the monster you're training on, maybe different weaknesses to different attacks? Any thoughts?

Older persons who play Runescape
It seems like there's still a big stigma against older people playing video games. How many times have you heard something like "you must be some creepy 40 year old who does nothing but play video games" or "older and playing video games...yep, must be a basement dweller!" Not to mention it would be a great way to connect with your kids- bonding through runescape! Although I'm 19 and still at the young-tender-whole-life-ahead-of-me stage. Oh and happy birthday Blackbane- my friend just turned 21 too (hello beer pong)
