  1. Alas, no. It's a zone focusing camera, so you're meant to work out the distance between the subject that you're trying to photograph and yourself, and adjust the focus ring to suit. the focus ring has three indents, one for a headshot (1m), a full length shot (3m) and then for infinity, but of course you can set it anywhere in between. The rangefinder was this cameras older, more expensive brother.
  2. You would be surprised what can be done in C4D. I just thought it was more object based modelling as opposed to rendering whole environments. Hours? I'm not really sure, even though that's something that i'm meant to have tracked for my portfolio lol. Several hundred i presume... maybe more. It's enjoyable stuff, problem solving and all that. And yeah, it's really a very powerful program, and very simple to use, it has a much better gui than 3dsmax. Btw, random update, this came in the mail for me yesterday: totally rad, i love it hah. I've just gotta find a battery for the meter and we're ready to roll - film of course.
  3. Well, if you have another part of the paper use that, I'd imagine you could clone the seam out in photoshop. Na i only have the one half :'( I tried experimenting with a sheet off to the side, but it just illuminated what was behind it and made it shine through. A new one is definitely on the list of things to buy, sadly quite low on the list though hah.
  4. A pentax K20D, but it really doesn't matter what type of camera you have at all. The most important part of the photography you've seen is probably off camera flash, which you can accomplish with even some point-and-shoot cameras. Just get out there and be creative :D
  5. Yeah thanks for the tips woop. The main issue that i have is that the background is really small, it's meant to be 3m wide, but who ever used it before i chopped it in half, so it's really hard to get full length shots with the background properly lit but without limbs and such sticking out over the edges of the background. But i'm happy how it's gone so far, especially since i picked it up for free :P
  6. Aye, that'd be me hah, and my awesome optimus prime t shirt :D Cheers you two.
  7. Shamless bump, just added a stack of new shots :D
  8. It's not too bad, my suggestion would be to consider where you're taking the photo before you do so; the background is rather distracting and not relevant. A piece of black cloth, or anything uniform really, would have made this already decent shot a lot better. Using off camera flash may not be available to you, but even simple stuff like using a desk lamp to create interesting lighting effects will help to make the can, and the water droplets in particular, 'pop'. Just my two cents :D

  10. Haha thanks tripsis +sam, i like it too :D wireless flash triggers all the way. I agree with the hanging stuff, i might go recreate it without the pink clothes rack thing. I tried it with the dryer above too, but it wasn't as cool. Personally i think the next step is to get inside the washing machine...
  11. Thanks nad, yeah it's a 360 degree panorama which i got of sxc.hu and placed on a cylinder around the house. Getting even lighting is so difficult... particularly when the light travels through walls, i have lights in my kitchen illuminating my bedrooms. Unfortunately since the project is due in about three days i really don't have much time to muck around with it, having to create an application and a massive portfolio as well, but i hope to create decent looking renders when this whole things over, just for experience.
  12. Ha thanks man. The whole flash=flat thing is to do with on-camera flash, having the light source coming from the exact same angle as where the picture is being taken, and yeah, it looks aweful. Having flash off-camera is basically the same as being able to move the sun around hah, and you get much more control over the diffusion of the light as well. If anything, off camera flash can increase the 'depth' in a photo, particularly between the subject and the background, by creating seperation etc etc. I ramble. Read strobist :P
  13. Update :D I recently bought a lightstand and a reflective/shoot through dual layer umbrella, they're great. The lightstand especially, it means i don't have to use people hah. Just been mucking around with more portrait stuff as you can see here: [hide=click me!]In a tunnel not far from my place: A shoot for one of my friend's major works - she's creating three books on hair, makeup and something else which i can't remember hah: And lastly for you skaters out there; I don't skate at all, but i went down the shops around the corner from my place last week and saw these guys setting up, i offered to come back and shoot them for a bit of fun, it worked out rather well :D[/hide] [hide=Old Posts]Hey y'all, just thought i would post a small selection of some of the stuff that i've been doing lately. Using money that i got for my birthday in mid-June, i purchased a sigma 530 super (flash) and a manfrotto superclamp from adorama in the states and had it shipped out here (saving about $300 AU). Love them both. The superclamp is ingenious, so bloody usefull. I use it mainly to turn my microphone stand into a light stand. All of the following portraits a flash, the most recent ones down the bottom starting from the one in the bush use the new flash. I'm really into the whole 'strobist' movement - using small strobes (flashes) to achieve studio-quality light without the hassle. I especially love the contrasty look when you use flash outdoors. I highly recommend all you photographers out there go check out the strobist website here, look especially at the lighting 101 section to get you started, it's awesome. I managed to get my hands on a roll of white seamless paper, the perfect portrait backdrop, they were chucking it out at school but i snaffled it up. Worth about $180AU :o i was so happy i got it. So the following portraits of other people I've done using it: And last but not least, my 3D work. I've been using Cinema 4D to design at create a house for a major project for one of the subjects i'm doing for my HSC. If that didn't make sense, the HSC is the leaving-school exams in year 12 (18y/o) in Australia, i'm doing multimedia as a subject and we have to do this big project, with a portfolio and everything. So i'm doing this house, and creating an application that allows you to move through the whole thing, it's quite cool, nearly finished bar alot of paper work hah, tis due next thursday, so everything's really hectic here at the moment. At least i enjoy doing it. some screenshots: So yeah, that's about all from me. I may add some more stuff up, especially other renders from the rest of the house as it comes out. Please give C/C or comment or what ever, through me a cookie or eight, i'd love to hear from you all.[/hide] RM
  14. Shameless bump. Also, when does this actually finish?
  15. Is anything happening about the suggestion for normal/panoramic instead of unmanip/manip? I thought it was a good idea. Edit: 1500 posts, again hah. Took me long enough.
  16. Most of them are. You can get a rotating Film cameras that use 35mm film and just keep the shutter open and rotate the camera to create a panorama (the Panorama covers more than one section of the film). Fisheye lenses can capture up to 180 degrees, but they need to be adjusted to view them correctly. All the rest are manipulated. I wasn't aware that this was the case? If they just used 35mm film there'd be gaps where the different negatives are attached to each other. My uncle's is a motorized one, it uses film that is specifically made for it, and a certain aspect ratio, couldn't tell you what. About four shots to a roll, because each neg is so long. You can also get wide format panoramic cameras that shoot onto wide format negatives without moving around, obviously you can't get wider than 180 degrees though with these. Digital ones too. One day :)
  17. I totally agree with this, excellent suggestion. Now i've just gotta think of locations... And pirate_felix i don't think anyone's really into landscape photography to facilitate them owning a panoramic camera hah, although i do dream. My uncle has one actually, sadly he lives about six hours away.

    Summer?

Yeah i love it, it just struck me as something that you'd see as a header to a website, is there a local tourist company or something that might buy it off you? Council? You never know, you could make a bit of cash out of it. I'm sure if you got a few prints made up and put them in a few restaurants around town you'd get some business too. Local fair? Ha i'm just throwing around ideas.

  20. This month has been rather hectic i'm afraid, and i haven't produced anything that i'm happy with hah. So i'm throwing this in: [hide=][/hide] Taken about a month ago, of a zygocactus. Sadly nothing for the manip section. I had ambitions to take a photo of an eye and go nuts, but ah well. It's good to see so many entries :D
  21. Yeah, i much prefer the non-sepia one. Tis a tad dark though, twould look cool with some ps work, burning the clouds in a bit etc.
  22. Very nice mate, I particularly like the 2nd one. What does the first one look without the adjustments? Also out of curiosity, what are you shooting with? The shot of the eagle looks awesome.
  23. Ha Eckered what is that? I'm having a lot of trouble thinking of anything to photograph hah, i really want to steer clear of photos. Extension tubes would also be nice at this point.
  24. Hey man nice job. I don't know if it's possible nor how it works, but can you shorten the time for the picture to enlarge? As in less frames, because it's fairly jittery on my computer, and we have decently fast internet (by Australian standards, which suck), i presume a quicker magnification would eliminate this. Also the pictures cover your header on mouse over. Overall i don't really know if i like the dock bit, that's just personal preference though. I think it would look better with the text. Respect though, you've obviously put a lot of time and effort into it, and i commend you on that.

    Leaves [!]

Looks good, i don't like the background though, how about slotting a stock photo of some asphalt in there instead? And yeah, you've kinda overdone it with the blur on a few of them, the one far right in particular. Cool concept though.
