  4. I am somewhat confused by your response in general. From what I gather you are trying to disprove me, but not "technically" disprove me. What I posted was factual, and you combated me with assumptions, such as: Unfortunately, I believe when used in the concept of Runescape "to quit" has become a little jaded. The percentage of high level people with rares that truly quit is incredibly small compared to the people who quit for a few months or so. Also, concerning: A few things here for you to keep in mind: 1)Not everyone that plays Runescape is young, and at the rate that gaming in general is expanding, gaming will be viewed at in a completely new perspective. In ten years, people who grew up with the SNES will be in their 30s holding respectable jobs. 2)Ok, here's the part where I was going to quote the rest of your list and tell you that you that you know what assuming does, but I am tired as well and need sleep.
  5. I believe you misread what he said. He is talking about rares being completely removed from the game, as in eliminated. When people quit, rares are not eliminated, they are merely "put on hold". Also, why do you see it unlikely that people would play a game for ten years? Take games like Everquest and Ultima Online, games with almost that much of a history and have thousands of users that are active and played when it released. The fact is most people do not enjoy change. A commitment (albeit to a game) provides stability to some people for what reality is: a constant unstable world.
  6. Oh, as you can see by my postcount vs. regdate, I don't much follow this forum. I don't have enough tolerance for this community to not cringe reading 90% of the topics. Edit: format didn't quite work out on that one, changed it up.
  7. Sorry if I came off as malicious, no intention as such. I guess I have always figured that putting aside feelings in debates yielded greater productivity, no hard feelings :). Also, if you just saw the Lost season finally as I did, I would just like to add that it was amazing and as always left us with way too many questions and way too long of a break before we get them. Also Locke isn't dead :D
  8. Have you ever considered talking to your parents in a considerate manner to at least find out what you did wrong? Here is my educated guess: you are in a hurry to get back to your computer for whatever reason and when your grandfather asks you a question, you respond quickly and don't take time to adorn him. Your grandfather sees this as a lack of respect and tell your parents, which in turn ground you as they see the culprit as your computer. Maybe you need to reevaluate your importance on things, and speak to your parents in that mind frame.
  9. Rune rocks are in the wilderness, JaGex intended these to be in the wilderness for many reasons, one of which was to make things more difficult. If you do not want to be pked, stay out of the wilderness. I assure you you are quite safe mining rocks in the heroes (legends? I'm not sure) guild. Why people still don't understand this concept is beyond me.
  10. This is nowhere near a valid argument. The reason for that being is that this entire topic is hypothetical, therefore all replies in turn will be...hypothetical. I agree with you completely that Runescape in no way represents world economy. Hypothetical questions are brought about with the intent of receiving hypothetical answers, as I am sure you are aware. There is no sure-fire way to explain hypothetical concepts, therefore we must turn to metaphors and "what-ifs", which to your credit can get hazy. The reason for our confusion in short/long term is no doubt the broad range of the OP's post, in which he used the phrase "die-out" which I read as long-term and you read as dinosaurs. I'm going to bed now, it was fun.
  11. RebDragon and I are debating the issue, if you want to contribute feel free, but otherwise you should be aware that this was not the right forum (or site for that matter) to post this in. Let me save you a rant and say debate is beyond most of Tip.It's members.
  12. You seem to be under the false impression that I was being literal, it was only a metaphor. Also, you seem to think that this would happen in a day, or a week, which it certainly would not. This would happen over the course of many many years, in which course gold value would settle out. Also, broccoli was intended to be a representation of consumables in general, which people do indeed need on a daily basis. I will not address your daggonith king reference, because I do not see it in any way relevant. Short term economy study != long term economy study by a very large margin
  13. "In 2003, when you get your first full addy (g) set, accept that trade where the guy offers you a santa for it" Oh god...
  14. First of all: Think of Runescape as a microcosm for the real world for a moment. (Thankfully) this situation is not plausible, but it will help me describe in detail what would happen should Runescape "go on forever" and rares doing the opposite. Think of rares as antique paintings, or just antiques in general. Eventually, all of van Gogh's original paintings will be gone and/or destroyed, but will that affect the price of broccoli at your grocery store? Tl;dr version: No, the change to the regular Runescape economy would be very very gradual or even not at all.
  15. Here you go seeton..now you can stop complaining about how I haven't contributed :P
