- Can My Parents Force Me To Go To Church?
Being that this topic is two months old, and we keep hearing the same things over and over again, I'm givin' this one the ole lock.- Utilitarianism
My problem with utilitarianism is that it is consequentialist. If you try to murder someone, fail, and end up making $100 out of it, it's considered a "good" act. My other problem with it is that it's impractical. In split second situations, or just normal everyday situations, you're not going to be able to take the 15 hours it takes to calculate every single possibility of your action to make "the right choice". Another problem is moral luck, which I guess is the same as #1. That being said, I think it's a good model for making business/governmental decisions, where majority/democracy come into play and alot of time can be spent making the decision/applying the principle of utility.- New Tony Hawk Footage... :| OMG
Please at least sound somewhat mature. :? He was only joking. Try not to sound like the forum police, since you have been here for what, like a month. He has more posts than you and his join date is earlier than yours :P- Do YOU believe in God?
We're talking specifically about the "500 people" thing, which was from one of his "revelations," not from the scripture. Gotcha. Apparently, Paul will assume any belief as long as he will ultimately be rewarded by god, or what he assumes god is. Errrr, no. 1. He's not assuming "any belief". "To the Jews I became a Jew" just means that he is relating to the Jews, bringing the gospel to them in a way they will understand - remember, Christ came primarily for the Jews - it's not like their belief systems are opposite. In fact he says within that passage that he is always under the Law of God "(being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ". Becoming without the law to "those without the law" means that he was relating to the Gentiles, showing how the gospel is relevant and applicable to their lives. 2. He doesn't even speak about being rewarded by God - he says he is doing it for the sake of the gospel, which means it is for the sake of other people, not himself. I have no idea how you pulled this one out of that passage.- Do YOU believe in God?
Paul specifically writes in corinthians that anything he knew about the resurrection appearances came from the scripture and [...] not eyewitness accounts. What is scripture based on? Not eyewitness accounts? All historical data is eventually (down the line) going to come from an eyewitness account. Moreover, I'm just curious, and since I don't feel the need to read through two books, could you provide me with the reference where Paul specifically writes that?- Starting a new forum?I need help and people who wouldto join
There's an excellent topic about how to make a great forum around these boards, I'll let you search for it (hint; the author is Mercifull). But asking our users to join is considered advertising and thus us not allowed here.- NHL Playoffs
That's impossible, they're in the same conference!- PS3 VS Xbox/360
He's just not around OT much - he's got over 2000 posts :P- Do YOU believe in God?
That's what I'm saying. He could be responsible for causing life and evolution, but Intelligent Design goes beyond that. Excellent, for once we agree.- Do YOU believe in God?
And that is exactly how religion should be viewed. It is when people go further than the origin of the big bang to say that god was involved in the development of life that they become wrong. That's an argument ad ignorantium - just because you can't observe God being involved doesn't mean that God isn't involved. It's something that cannot be proven/disproven by science, since science deals with natural phenomena - not the supernatural.- PS3 VS Xbox/360
Do they even have dev-kits yet? :P- Hello!
- NHL Playoffs
It's true, I noticed his goals during the game (for some reason the last name "Ranger" stuck out to me as a defensemen), and never heard anything about him on the sports shows next morning.- Moto Restaurant
I'm actually surprised by the prices, I was expecting something alot more expensive. Maybe restaurant food is generally more expensive in Canada or something.- NHL Playoffs
Chris Neil was incredible for Ottawa tonight - I don't think he got a point, but he must have drawn about 40minutes in penalties singlehandedly. In one play, he said one word to a Tampa Bay player, and the TB guy immediately jumped Neil after the faceoff and was given a 7minute penalty (2 for instigation, and 5 for fighting), and Neil was given nothing. Ottawa won 8-4, and totally dominated TB all night. Havlat also scored a highlight reeler, I hope it's the highlight of the night on SportsCentre tomorrow morning!- Moto Restaurant
Moto Restaurant is a modern cuisine restaurant where head chef Homaro Cantu puts alot of science into his creations, such as "donut soup" - liquid that tastes just like the inside of a Krispy Kreme donut, or "carbonated grapefruit". His cooking appliances consist of pipettes, liquid nitrogen, and lasers. Another invention of his is the edible menu - the ink is made from organics, are is compatible with his every-day printer :P Some of the projects his other chefs are working on is for example, a scoop of ice cream that is cooked at low temperatures so it shatters into powder when eaten. There isn't too much information to offer other than the website, which isn't too informative. There's a really neat article in "Fast Company" magazine. I dunno, my mom subscribes to it, and I just saw the article on the table. A quick google search revealed some interesting articles though :)- PS3 VS Xbox/360
That's because they present a prototype that won't actually be the ps3. They give a souped-up version to get media hype. And what about the "delay" that Sony clearly planned from the get-go yet waited until after Christmas to announce? :P- NHL Playoffs
I couldn't be happier with how tonight is going so far! 3-0 for Montreal vs. Carolina after 1, and 5-0 for Buffalo vs. Philadelphia after 1.- United 93 - Discussion about it...
I was against it until I saw the preview in theatres, where they interviewed the families of those that died and they actually took part in making the movie. I still think it is too soon though, less than 5 years after it happened?- Your Face!!!
"Your face" is a safer comeback I think. It avoids insulting someone with "Your mom!", whose mother passed away.- discovery versus jesus
Because they have things proving them wrong. Even Catholic religion has been proved wrong by it's own bible, seeing how could virgin Mary be a virgin if Jesus had brothers? Because Jesus was the oldest? Seems kind of easy to figure out. When Mary was a virgin, she had Jesus. Jesus had brothers. Therefore Jesus was firstborn. The focus isn't that Mary was always a virgin, the focus is on the virgin birth, hence Mary being "Virgin Mary".- Discrimination?
Exactly, Lionheart, you're comparing the maturity level of your average child to the maturity level of your average adult. Are all kids stupid because they don't know university-level biochem? No, because you compare them to other kids their own age. Therefore, when judging a kid's maturity level, don't compare them to adults - compare them to the average maturity level of other kids their own age.- dangit
