Just imagine this random event being like the mime and maze events, where multiple players can sometimes appear in them. Being in level 98 wilderness it could certainly become a deathtrap for some players. Especially a level 60 in, skulled, in full rune that ends up there with me

I do not believe there should be judge, jury and executioner power vested in any player, by any means. The consequences of misusing this would obviously be vere severe, and would require strict enforcement. It could be made inoperable during combat. That would eliminate the possibility for misuse during pking or similar circumstances. The fact of the matter is, we are in a macroing crisis, that threatens to do irreparable damage to runescape. Something has to be done, to protect the game that we all enjoy, from the threat of cheating. I want the ability to inform players, who's chat may be turned off, that I suspect they are cheating. This way they can stop me from sending a report, or I can have greater certainty of whether someone is indeed autoing. Currently it's just a guessing game, they kind of look like an autoer, so I'm going to send a report. I find myself concerned that I may wind up in trouble for mistakenly reporting an honest player, who just wasn't paying attention at the right time. This creates a disincentive to report people, and as a result, it protects the macroers.

Your concerns are well founded Swampy. I play in much the same manner you described, and I can understand your position. Let's say that the timer on this warning would be something like 2 minutes. Certainly, this could assuage your fears, could it not? Or say there wasn't a timer, but it simply prevented you from continuing to cut yews or mine ess or whatever until you dealt with the warning. It could just be used to inform the person who suspects a macroer. Also, what is to prevent players from reporting you for macroing now? Much of the reason I brought up this idea, is because sometimes it is difficult to discern skillers from macroers. Instead of simply being reported, you would have an chance to demonstrate you are not macroing with this concept. In this regard, it can help avoid sending out incorrect reports. I 100% agree with you on p mods though. There are far too few currently, to do the job they are intended.

Did you read anything other than the initial post? I'm going to venture a guess that you didn't.

Balancing weapons (formerly "useless weapons")
Lim_Dul replied to Lim_Dul's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
The energy generated by a pickaxe was precisely what I meant. That would be capable of dealing a devastating blow and especially against armor. A dagger would be of little consequence against plate armor, though suitable for use against chain maille. The pickaxe would also have a sizeable reach advantage over a dagger. I wish I could post a link, but there is one website in particular which gives some great information on medieval weaponry. It states that the "warhammer" would most closely be associated with a pickaxe. here's a picture I scrounged up, it's not the most pickesque warhammer ever, but you can see the concept is the same. -
Exactly my point. This is especially a problem in F2p worlds. I know of approximately 6 nonmember player mods, yet the vast majority of macroing goes on in F2p worlds. How are 6 people, some of whom no longer play runescape regularly, supposed to police all the free worlds? This in itself is a serious problem, but to try and stop autoers, it is everyones responsibility to report them. I am yet to meet a level 3, non autoer, that didn't shower me with questions like "how long did it take to get that combat level" and "how much money do you have". I find it hard to believe all the level 3s and 4s who have the default character appearance, just "don't want to talk" to me, because they're cutting yews with iron axes. Obviously the number of autoers isn't apparent to you Albosky. You need to come down to the Rimmington yews, Varrock yews, Ess mines even the lumbridge willows in a F2p server. The number of players blatantly violating the rules is sickening. These people are an insult to rule abiding players, and it is everyones job to report them so that Jagex can take action. The current reporting system is not sufficient to deal with the volume of people breaking rule #7. If the reports were easier to send out, and provided definitive proof, we could cut deep into the ranks of macroers and hopefully put an end to this form of cheating. I think my idea of a report warning system would do just that. It will enpower every player to combat the problem head on, but prevent errant reports from being sent.

I have to post a reply, late as it may be, because the only car listed here which even remotely compares to any of my cars, is that '64 galaxy. I'm a full size addict, and since full size cars stopped being made (as far as I'm concerned) in the late '70s, I try to stick to model years prior to that. I'll try to keep it short and sweet, so here's some of my best cars. '76 olds Ninety-eight: I bought this car from a junkyard for 500 dollars and drove the hell out of it, then later swapped the engine into another Oldsmobile. Probably my favorite car of any I've owned. It was so unsightly due to multiple accidents, and surface rust which all occurred prior to my purchase. It's 455 motor was a force to be reckoned with, and averaged a nice even 10 miles per gallon. Oh the burnouts, I destroyed many a tire in many a parking lot  '79 Lincoln Continental: The biggest land-yacht of my fleet to date, weighing in at 4900 pounds, and measuring 233 inches overall length. Pretty underpowered with only a 400 cubic inch V8, but the most fuel efficient car I've owned since highschool (12 mpg according to the original window sticker). I got this beauty for 900 dollars from a golfcart dealership. The Lincoln in my signature is the same body style but is a '76 model. '67 Buick Electra 225: My mouth waters when I think about this car. With a 430 cubic inch big block and dual glasspacks, nothing on the road could approach it's menacing gutteral exhaust sound. It could really throw it's weight around too. The fastest I ever got it was 110 mph, but you could hear it was just getting warmed up at that speed. Tragically this car has been plagued with problems and is currently out of commission. On it's best days, I wouldn't have traded this car for a million dollars.

Metal armors give a negative defense bonus against a mages attacks. If you put on your addy armor and look at your magic defense bonus, it's something like -18. That means magic will be more likely to hit you due to your armor. You can beat melzar pretty easily by just taking your armor off, or wearing range armor. Green dragon hide would be optimum if you have over 40 range. With a handful of lobsters you can defeat him soundly.

There are easy solutions for your concerns. First off, you would only need to do it one time per person. That means they could limit you to one report warning, per player, per hour. You don't need to sit there and do it again and again on the same person. You could still report warn as many people as you want, as quickly as you want, just not repeatedly. Secondly, if someone did try to abuse the feature by report warning you when you're clearly not autoing, this can already be dealt with. That's what the report misuse of customer support option is for. Abuse of this sort of thing should obviously carry a harsh penalty. For the problem of macroers writing a script to overcome the warning they receive, this would also be pretty simple. Since this is a serious matter, which wouldn't come up regularly for a legitimate player, the warning could bring up a cut and dry text box with letters and numbers of different fonts that you have to type out. Just like when you start an email account or something of that sort, it would be the same thing. The more I think about it, the more I like this idea.

Don't switch back and forth between skills too often. Each time you go from one skill to another you're wasting time. Stick to one skill for a few days and gain several levels, then switch, that way you're maximizing efficiency towards training. Optimally you could stick to one skill all the way through 99, but this can get very boring, so naturally you're going to have to change it up from time to time. Try to train in areas with less players. This way you can continually be working on your skills instead of waiting for trees and monsters to respawn. Crowds of other players result in alot of down time which can really add up. Keep in mind that it's more efficient to buy items to train certain skills. Don't throw your time towards training a skill that could be easily bought later on. A perfect example of this is crafting. In F2p, your options would be mining your own silver (incredibly slow xp) or gathering your own cowhides (even slower xp). Those options are a waste of time when compared with buying cowhides once you have the gp to do so. Avoid skills like crafting, until you can afford to buy your levels in them. These are the best tips I can give. There really isn't any magical secret, just a whole lot of determination and patience. Good luck :D

Syzygy has been at 89 prayer since the dawn of time, don't hold your breathe on him reaching 125 anytime soon. I was told he doesn't buy bones, so that would explain the slow xp gain.

This idea just came to me while I was attempting to report hordes of autoers. I always like to say something like "(name of autoer), I think you are autoing, please respond or I will report". Generally I'll give two warnings of this sort, then I report. The obvious problems with this are, the potential for them to have chat off, and the fact that it takes quite a bit of time to type warnings and report for all the autoers I see. This is where my suggestion comes in. There needs to be some sort of button, preferably under the report abuse feature, which allows me to send a warning to a supposed autoer. It would be essentially like a player mod being able to speak to someone who's public chat is turned off, but it would allow everyone to have definitive proof before reporting. Here's an example of how I think it should work. You click "report warning" and it prompts you to enter the name of a suspected macroer. You enter the name and click on confirm. This sends the autoer a message of some sort with a countdown. If they don't respond to the message received, then they are automatically reported. It would be somewhat like a randon event. This would also do away with the 60 second delay between reports. When you walk up to the rimmington or varrock yews, often times there are as many as 10 blatant autoers there. Generally I switch worlds at this point, because you can't get any logs with 10 people cutting the trees, and this means I don't stick around long enough to report all of these obvious cheaters. If I could fire off 10 reports using report warnings, it would really streamline the process. With this reform, it would encourage legitimate players to help defeat cheaters. As it is now, I often feel I'm fighting a losing battle, trying to report macroers minute after minute, and watching more and more come. The current report system makes me feel so helpless to combat the scurge of runescape. We need a better way.

So world class boxers should enter the minor leagues and beat the crap out of every one? Let's try to stay on the topic of virtual reality buddy, not real life. His analogy is completely legitimate. The rule helps protect newer players from being slaughtered by pures with deep pockets. Assuming low level players who recently started playing runescape were cut to ribbons everytime they enter the wilderness, why would they keep playing? They can't hope to compete with accounts funded by lvl 120+ mains. The level system in the wilderness is there for a reason. That reason is not, so you can start a new account and give it millions of gp and weapons, to kill lower levels. The level system in the wilderness is to allow everyone to take on fighters of their own class, much like boxing. You could still start an account and make it just as good, but it is much more laborious because of the rule Jagex wisely implemented.

Balancing weapons (formerly "useless weapons")
Lim_Dul replied to Lim_Dul's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
There are several items which I believe should be added to the smithing tables. There's no reason pickaxes, halberds and spears wouldn't be smithable items. This would be a fantastic update for smiths, as it would add a few profitable items (a rarity in these days) to the skill. I just saw a third maul a couple days ago. This seems rather absurd that Jagex would add a third chapter to the saga of letdowns that is the maul. I think the granite maul had too much emphasis placed on it's special attack. If the special attack used the entire special bar for instance, but the attack and strength bonuses were higher, this would make it more consistantly useful. This would make it appeal to higher level players than those which use it currently. Is there some sort of hierarchy to the mauls now? I don't understand why they keep rehashing a weapon, making none of them suitable for high levels to use. -

I could certainly see a pickaxe being a better weapon than a dagger. In fact, warhammers were really closer in resemblance to pickaxes than hammers. The other day a great idea hit me relating to this topic. Why don't spears hit across obstacles like the halberds do? I would argue that a spear could lay greater claim to this special ability than a halberd. The reason for the pole of a halberd is to increase the energy generated at the axe head, not to have a longer striking distance. The spear and subsequent pike on the other hand, were designed specifically with range in mind. If the spear were given the added benefit of using safespots, many people would resort to them for training. Spears might need additional tweaking to bring them up to snuff, but safespots would go a long way to giving them legitimacy. -
Pretty cool idea, but the one flaw I see is the fire damage. If you were to hit 20 damage initially, the countdown of fire damage would be devastating. That would be a total of 147 damage with the additional damage you're continuing to hit stacked onto that. That would be a bit overpowered. Perhaps if instead of dealing damage counting down from the hit you dealt, it could hit random amounts of damage for a 10 second period, with a set maximum damage. This would still retain your concept, but keep it from being too overwhelming. On the whole, creative idea, and gives the mace a bit of a twist that it sorely needs :D

Balancing weapons (formerly "useless weapons")
Lim_Dul replied to Lim_Dul's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
Of course rapid fire is the attack virtually always used. But what I'm saying is, the shortbow completely eliminates any use for the longbow, because the shortbow is much faster. The same can be said for the crossbow, it's too slow to serve any purpose. Why not make it to where all the weapons can be used effectively, so people who want to use a longbow or crossbow can do so, without putting themselves at an immense disadvantage in training or pking. This isn't an issue of P2p vs. F2p. The issue here is that many weapons in the game, in both members and nonmembers worlds, are grossly outclassed by other weapons. For example the warhammer, many players want to use a warhammer, because they like the concept or believe it should be superior against plate armor (which it should). The problem is they can't use the weapon, because Jagex has made it so pitifully weak and slow. Why has Jagex made weapons which are utterly useless, While they've made other weapons clearly superior for every application? Eyrelex, I would suggest you average your xp per hour with the longsword and compare it with the scimitar. I haven't averaged xp in a long time so I can't recall what the ultimate results are, but it's at least a 15% difference. I want to say the longsword is the second best rune weapon, but don't quote me. -
Whirliebird, your post is envigorating. I'm so glad to see other people as passionate about the merciless slaughter of autoers. "Some might say that was an extreme position" Harassment and reporting is the duty of all legitimate players. We need more people with Whirliebirds passion for retribution against these runescape delinquents. We also need more people who admire Charles Bronson's great body of work, including "the dirty dozen", "the great escape", "the mechanic" and the "deatwish" series to name a few

Balancing weapons (formerly "useless weapons")
Lim_Dul replied to Lim_Dul's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
I think for the sake of simplicity, the adjustments should be focused on either bonuses, or speed, but not both. Theoretically this would make the proposed update more appealing to Jagex, because it wouldn't be such a massive undertaking. The possible problem with this, is that the bonuses might have to be increased too much to account for the current speed advantages. For instance, the rune battleaxe might have to have bonuses as high as dragon weapons to match the rune scimitar. In that case then the only recourse would be to alter the speeds of weapons as well. Raichase is correct on the abyssal whip. I don't think all weapons should be balanced out, but the weapons of equivilent class, like same metal, should be comparable in ability. I would like to see the gap between some weapons reduced though. From what I hear the abyssal whip so greatly outpaces anything else, such as a dragon scimitar for example, that it becomes the only weapon used by people who can afford it. The result is many players being carbon copies of one another, which is rather disinteresting. Optimally the whip could be the most desireable weapon for many situations, but if you are killing knights, then a maul would have the edge. I don't think one weapon should be the best for fighting every type of opponent. I completely forgot about claws. Obviously I have no experience with them, in fact I think I've only seen them being weilded once. I'm under the impression these are the pinnacle of useless weapons. -

Lim_Dul replied to Lim_Dul's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
Raichase, you're wit had me chuckling heartily several times reading that last post  Dealing with the battle axe specifically (dragon and rune alike) here is what I think should be done. If the accuracy were improved, in both crush and slash attacks, I think this would go a long way to putting it back into the running. The crush attack in particular should be increased quite substantially. This would allow it to produce reasonable xp while training, and also give it the teeth it needs for pking well armored opponents. The key to the battle axe is it should be versatile, easily adapted to attacking plate, chain, or robes. Currently it is poor in all three of those roles. The warhammer has a decent crush attack, but it's still not enough to match the speed of the scimitars slashing. I think the warhammer could use an improvement of crush attack, and a dash of strength bonus as well. This weapon should be highly effective against plate, in fact it should be the best rune weapon against platebody, because it is so limited in it's attack style. If you are sacrificing slash and stab attack entirely, you should be rewarded handsomely with devastating results on plate armor. These are the only weapons I'm going to cover now, because I'm lazy. Ultimately, the goal of these adjustments would be that you could take the battleaxe, scimitar, longsword, warhammer or 2h sword, and train with roughly the same xp per hour gained. That would be the litmus test of achieving proper balance. -
Balancing weapons (formerly "useless weapons")
Lim_Dul replied to Lim_Dul's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
Discussing barrows equipment: I was told that the great axe, even under 5 hp, is not as effective as a whip. If that's the case, the extraordinary risk of training below 5hp constantly would be pointless. I think the great axe is probably the most functional slow and powerful weapon in the game, even if the whip produces xp faster. The great axe certainly has uses for PvP applications due to it's awesome KO ability. Karil's is dreadfully expensive according to my friend. He couldn't cover the cost of upkeep and ammunition training on any monster. The sets capabilities aren't anything to rave about when compared with the already available range weapons and armor. Why does Jagex hate warhammers so much? Torags is no exception, because the dual warhammers are useless. Barrows did succeed in getting the spear and flail into use, albeit for extremely specialized purposes. I think the concept of barrows was to address the issue I'm raising in this thread, but it was like a band-aid over a gaping wound. The current weapons need to be revisited, to bring some balance to them. Dragon weapons: It sounds like there may be some parity among the dragon weapons. How well do the longsword and scimitar stack up against each other? Is there a clearly superior weapon among the two? I like the fact that the dragon dagger actually has some purpose. Unlike the rune dagger, which is suitable for spreading butter, or other noncombat activities. I wish there were more weapons which had niche roles like the dragon dagger. Unfortunately the battle axe falls short in runescape, yet again. Special aside, shouldn't one of the most versatile and feared weapons of medieval times be represented better than this? The battle axes in game never cease to disappoint. I have never heard much about the spear, but from what I gather, it's another paperweight. The interesting thing about the halberd, is that in runescape it has no crush attack. If you read on what brought the halberd into being, it was actually designed to defeat the thicker, stronger platebodies of the time. A halberd has a devastating crushing attack when swung downward onto the shoulders and head of an armored opponent. The halberd should be unrivaled in killing opponents wearing plate armor, yet in runescape it is merely for hitting giants from behind rocks? The dragon 2h sounds to be rather lackluster as well. I have difficulty imagining it being as bad as the rune two hand sword, because the r2h is abhorrently poor in performance. Wasn't the 2h something of mythical stature in Rsc? Why has it been turned into something so feeble? Abyssal whip and maul: I suppose that some sort of enchanted whip can explain the ability of this weapon. I don't see any problem with that explanation, but it seems that Jagex has gone way overboard with it. When one weapon is unequivocally superior to everything else, it makes the other weapons of the game a mute point really. This weapon needs to be toned down to allow some competition to exist between different classes of weapons. I was really excited when the granite maul came out, even if it was p2p. Here, I thought, is the weapon that will finally put crush attacks on the map. For about a week it was a dominant force, especially in the wilderness. Then it was converted from the powerful, armor flattening implement, into a level 50s tool of mediocrity. This was very depressing, because once again, slashing weapons reigned supreme over plate armor What about that other maul, the one that looks like a lamp post. Is it any good. It certainly didn't receive much fanfare at it's release. Armor: Jafnn is absolutely right here. A full set of rune with kite gives very consistantly high defense, and almost no advantage is served to use any specific attack against it. Compounding this problem, there isn't a decently capable weapon that uses an attack other than slash. As a result the wilderness is rather homogenous and bland in it's current state. I think the defense bonus of the chain is reasonable when compared to the platebody. There just needs to be weapons which can capitalize on the weaknesses of certain armors. If there were a serious advantage to crushing attacks against plate armor, many players would opt to wear chainbody instead. This would really change the wilderness, bringing much more diversity to the fray. -
I actually saw this earlier today before reading the post. I was really getting annoyed cause that one sheep was impossible to sheer. Took me a long time to notice that it's legs were clearly penguins (smacks forhead).

Idea for update, Right click to bury bones
Lim_Dul replied to my_pet_worm's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
I like this idea. This wouldn't make prayer any easier because you still have to click twice to bury bones. Instead of left clicking to pick up and then bury, you right click then left click. Good idea, good suggestion, add me in. Rsn: AKM762 -
Balancing weapons (formerly "useless weapons")
Lim_Dul replied to Lim_Dul's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
I don't think there would be any adjustments needed in store prices. The weapon prices reflect greater abilities in the weapons specifically needing improvements. Weapon prices are mostly at the mercy of players buying and selling now anyway, very few people actually pay store prices to obtain weapons anymore. Most of what we've discussed in this thread thus far has been about rune weapons. I'm really interested to hear what people have to say about the current balance of dragon, and other p2p weapons. From what I understand the abyssal whip has no rival. That seems a tad bit silly to me, since a whip isn't even intended to be a lethal weapon in reality. Didn't Jagex reduce the attack and strength bonuses of the granite maul considerably shortly after it's release? What specifically brought that reform about, and could it be reproduced to convince Jagex to revamp the entire weapons catalogue? -
