Do you think every atheist thinks this way? Let me enlighten you and everyone else as to what atheism fundamentally means. Everyone huddle round and listen up, this is important so we don't continue misrepresenting each other. and do you think every Christian is as close minded as you say we are? When did I EVER say that? Show me and I'll not only eat my shoe, but apologise profusely. not you but your atheist friends have said it. Then next time please try and direct the comment at the right people.

Atheists have intresting charaters. From my perspective of them, they base things off evidence, logic, rationality. Their goal when talking to a christian? Point out how his beliefs are illogical, unevidential, and unrational by his research and findings (thus why he Athiest). Yet its amazing that a Athiest, being logical and the common sense type of man has no common sense or logic when dealing with people. Adding insults and emotional cuts to your posts will not get a Christian to be open minded. They would simpley only retract. There is no such thing as a open minded Athiest, because he is the excate opposite of a christian. For example, A Christian believes there is a God, no other way around this. A Athiest believes there is no God, and there is no other way around this. You cannot say "There may be and i'll change my mind later", you cannot, that would make you Agnostic or whatever Religion you may take on. A Agnostic is a person who would be most open minded because he believes a God may or may not exist. ~Defender~ No I don't. You're assuming all atheists are strong atheists. I am this kind of atheist:

Do you think every atheist thinks this way? Let me enlighten you and everyone else as to what atheism fundamentally means. Everyone huddle round and listen up, this is important so we don't continue misrepresenting each other. The prefix 'a' means without or not. The root 'theism' means the belief in the existance of a god or gods. Thus, 'a-theism' means being without or not sharing a belief in the existance of a god or gods. Most people, however, choose to lump all atheism in with the group of people who believe that 'there is no god.' These people are strong atheists. They have an active belief where I, as adhering to the basic definition of atheism, merely lack belief because I am skeptical. I don't have belief that there is no god. There is a crucial difference here.- The bible
I'd be interested to know your source for evolution being disproved - please elaborate. It hasn't been. It's totally the opposite i.e. the overwhelming majority of the scientific community accepts it. I'm afraid to say he's either ignorant or lying. Don't take my word for it, ask a scientist. I'm confident they will reiterate my sentiments exactly.- The bible
Only if that were really the case. If someone just believes a literal interpretation of the bible and dosen't suggest it's truthful by manipulating and misrepresenting science, I'd hasten to say I wouldn't give a toss.- The bible
Can we all avoid the creationsit websites that spew out this garbage rhetoric of the unreliablility of carbon dating when firstly it's not supposed to be used to date things greater than 60,000 years and secondly there are somewhere in the order of 40 other much more well respected and used radiometric dating techniques? They take people for blubbering fools. They give you a very one sided story with no objectivity as to how accurate the other 39 or so dating methods are as if they mysteriously forgot about them. Well I'm telling you right now they haven't. They are using the argument they know will sway you the most. Truth is of no value or worth. They want your socially conditioned mind to dissolve to jelly so they can remould you at will and proliferate thier culture. But hey, forgive my assumptions. If you show me your source and it turns out to be an unbiased one I'll apologise profusely.- The bible
The Bible contradicts itself, in the Genesis creation story God makes the earth first, then the stars, but other books of the Bible disagree with this. Meh, either way creationism is bunk. Why can't everyone get it through their blasted heads? the bible, especially Genesis and Revelation, are SYMBOLISM. Why the blasted hell is the world created in six days, when god probably can have made it in 10 seconds? ans if god is godly, why did he need to rest on the last day? the answer? Those "days" are symbols for the israeli work days. monday through saturday, work work work. sunday rest. that author used symbolism to show how close god is to his people. we all know very well that dinosaurs came before humans, so why are they not mentioned? the answer is, they WERE. Each "day" in that book can have varied from 20 minutes to 60 million years. the dinosaurs can have come, died, and evolution took place all in one "day". The earth was not created the same time as everything else. It could have been created millions of years after some things, depending on how long the "day" was. But its symbolism. The real point is not how the world was created, but a hint of who God is. Atheists and agnostics think they can find flaws in the bible and then point out that christianity must be wrong. but of course, what every blasted atheist can't seem to comprehend is that there's more SYMBOLISM in the bible then actual FACTS! Whats the point of the bible then? exactly what you're supposed to find. How to live a good life. but symbolism makes it basically a christian code that blocks out all idiots and anti-christs who believe the bible is flawed. I've posted several long posts on this thread and they seem to be ignored. I'm getting rather annoyed that nobody can comprehend the word "symbolism." I for one recognise symbolism in the bible. I agrue against the literal interpretation, I don't make it seem like it should be taken literally just so I can argue your religion. See what I'm getting at? I think you should at least throw literalists in with the agnostic and atheist crowd here.- Do blind people see their dreams?
Biochemistry, perhaps? I'm not aware of the specifics but seeing as human beings all have human being eyes, we all interpret different EM wavlengths in the same way, right?- The bible
How would you know that the devil tries to trick people without taking what the bible proclaims about the devils shenanigans as true? Gotta be objective and truthful, right?- Janitors, lunch ladies, bus drivers, teachers etc..
With the kind of respect some kids have, they might as well be looking into the mirror at thier future selves and the job they'll end up with themselves. Everyone deserves no disrespect, at bare minimum. Anything less is bad karma. :P- Big Brother 07
I personally think it's outdated, bloated diatribe. They ran out of ideas long ago to the point where whenever I hear "double eviction this sunday" I feel sorry for the puppets who actually volunteered for this crap. Reality television? [cabbage]. The american show "Cops" is reality television, and pure gold at that. I know, I'm a harsh critic. :P- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Does he die?- Do blind people see their dreams?
No senses can contemplate the nature of dimensions in which we do not exist empirically. The sense of touch may be able to allow a blind person to know what shape is, at least, and possibly form an image in the brain from that. Again, I'll confess this is speculation. Whether or not a person who has been blind thier whole life can see imagery in thier brain or know how to identify said imagery as genuine images or not is very difficult to come to terms with.- Do blind people see their dreams?
This is interesting. Tigra, your post actually made me think about this a little. I was originally going to say no, but seeing as they do have some sort of stimulus, thier brains may be triggered into forming images like the brain of someone who has sight does. It's just we know our picture is accurate because we've actually experienced sight. The question would be much easier if the person in question had no senses whatsoever. If that were the case, then I'd speculate dreaming would be impossible. This is all conjecture because testing this kind of stuff would be really unethical but I can't see how someone with no senses whatsoever could ever form images, behaviours, language or anything. There would be no stimulus to recieve and thus nothing to trigger the images, behaviours or language etc. With a person just without sight, however, there is stimulus, therefore, I'd say there could possibly be some kind of bizzare imagry formed in thier brain. Again, all speculation.- Save 3000 strangers OR 1 person you love?
Damn. This is harder than the '1000 people's lives or millions of dollars' thread. In that one I'd save the people every time but this one... Damn. I'm a human being and I have compassion for both the loved one and the 3000... Screw it, I'll be selfish on this one and choose the loved one. :P I think it's safe to say that no one here would ever want to make such a choice, though.- NRL Thread
It's on tomorrow for Broncos vs. Parra, Eels. :P We'll have to pull off something special to beat you guys though, I'm afraid. With no Hunt now our chances just shot closer to zero. :(- The bible
Yes, but the idea behind Creationism is that the universe and world were created at the same time, 6,000 years ago, not that the Earth just popped into a really old universe recently. Oh, and when labeling diagrams that have to do with light, try not to use the letter "c". It gets confusing when you have to differentiate it from the variable (ille est, the constant speed of light) every time you look at it #-o . Nooo, the bible never says that the earth was created at the same time as the rest of the universe ... I don't think their astronomy was advanced enough to really think about it. And about how I label points in my diagram; does that really matter? It got the idea across. EDIT: Just want to make it clear, because I'm not sure whether I'm arguing with a Christian or an Atheist (Rebdragon?), I don't support Creationism. Normally I wouldn't try to pick apart the theories set by Atheists, but that one was so glaringly wrong. What theory is that? I'm confused. :?- A catharsis from what?
Do you ever find yourself looking for ways to catharsize yourself i.e. to feel something just because you want to get your mind off of things or just because you want to feel? How do you do it? The real question is why do you do it? Why do we need a catharsis from living? Is life really that mediocre that we try and purposefully make ourselves feel something that we don't or can't? Ok, now for why I'm doing this. Perhaps I'm just thinking too much or perhaps I'm mixed up in the head. Lately I've been purposefully wanting to make myself feel something; anything. I just watched the movie 'The Shawshank Redemption' (awesome movie) and kept thinking to myself I hope I'm crying by the end of this. The thing is there's nothing I'm hiding from; my life is basically great. Does anyone else feel this need for catharsis like I do or is it just that I'm a bit messed up, in your opinion. No need to be kind.- The bible
Actually you do inherit powers when you convert... And as for the verses of the Bible damning themselves, some Christians just pull out that black Sharpie and draw a line through them. Ha. Personally, I'm a Christian, *but* I've attacked (not physically, in a debate) fundamentalists over the sexist verses and the verses saying "God hates the wicked" (which would mean God hates homosexuals?) and pointing out defects in their morals. I don't see why a woman cannot be equal to a male. At least the woman isn't likely at all to go in a testosterone rage and kill someone. Sexist males remind me a lot of grunting apes fighting over a piece of food. I remember on Answers.com it mentioned an injection being developed to destroy male dominance. I don't know if it's true or not. But at least some people are trying to end it nonetheless. Maybe 'male aggression' can be severed, too. Maybe W4rri0r will know more about this. Never heard about it sorry.- The bible
(1) Oh you're killing me. That's rich. I fully recognise the symbolism of the Bible and the fact that some of your own don't recognise it so I challenge them. I don't challenge peoples beliefs because I couldn't care less besides sometimes being curious. People can and should be able to have the freedom to believe whatever they want without someone else telling them they are stupid. (2) Some would (not me). And only christians know the symbolism in the bible? How's that? Do you inherit a magic power when you convert? Please be a little more careful with your words.- SATs
I'm a bit ignorant of all the titles and levels having only done one semester of tertiary study but sounds cool. :P - Soundtrack of your life
