  1. You know the saying 'there's always someone worse off than you'? What would the parents of these Sudanese children say?
  2. Thanks for the responses thus far guys, good to see the overwhelming majority say yes.
  3. Mind explaining? My knowlege on the life and times of Ghandi is minimal. It just seems odd to me to label such an influential person as a racist.
  4. We don't need a key, we'll break in. :P Cookie for whoever guesses what the heck I'm talking about. Sorry for being so off-topic, but: Rage Against the Machine (feat. Maynard James Keenan): Know your Enemy And yeah, sucks about those sudanese. Maybe we should have invaded them, they're obviously more worth it. :P Edit: Hahaha, 1000th post!!... and it's spam... #-o sorry guys. =P~
  5. Your teacher wasn't quite correct at all :P Out of a 10 litre bucket, about 300-400ml would be drinkable, so that's quite a handful of teaspoons. But still, the point is still there :) You live in Townsville, right, Jem? What kind of sources do you guys get water from? Dams, underground aquifers, any recycling up there? The place where the powerpuff girls live? I have no idea what you are talking about, but no. Townsville is in northern Queensland.
  6. We don't need a key, we'll break in. :P Cookie for whoever guesses what the heck I'm talking about. But about the Sudanese and the problem in thier country, I believe thier problems are as much religous as they are political. Muslims in the rich north and Christians in the poor south. I could be way off as I haven't followed this information up though.
  7. Most people are ignorant and stereotypical of some cultures today, granted, but ignorance and stereotyping because you know no better is not racism to me. Racism is more of an active thing than an inactive thing and is epitomised best by organisations such as the KKK etc. These people actively hate and are intolerant (a key factor of being a racist in my opinion) towards other races. I suppose if I were to take both of our opinions on board, you could designate active or passive racism. Active being based dominantly on intolerance and prejudice and passive being based more on stereotypes and ignorance.
  8. Actually, it is. Nobody has ever died from smoking pot. Marijuana doesn't cause cancer (even if you find a study that says it does, courtesy of the US gov't, then users can still eat the marijuana or smoke it from a bong to avoid carcinogens). Marijuana shrinks tumours. Using marijuana while driving or right before driving increases your risk of getting into a crash. But using fast food while driving, or using the radio while driving, or having passengers in the car, can also increase your risk of getting into an accident. I wasn't suggesting it's harmful in the sense that it kills people, it's harmful in the sense that it can ruin your life. I've seen it happen.
  9. Pretty good site. It shows the pros and cons of both sides of the argument.
  10. I guess propaganda isn't a good substitute for life experience. People for the most part don't try smoking pot because they think it will transform them into somebody cool, and almost noobdy is pressured into trying it. Yeah, I mean, it's not like anybody uses it to reduce the wasting effect of AIDS, help prevent cataracts, or make themselves happier. It's not like it's one of the oldest medicines known to humankind, grown by George Washington (who said "Spread the Indian Hemp seed wherever you go!") and proven to be completely safe by even the governments tests. It's not like the first marijuana laws in the USA were against not growing marijuana. It's not like you failed to do any research, or anything. It's not like it's completely harmless, either.
  11. Most people start smoking because they want to know what its like and if they like it. They keep using because they like it and it isn't harmful to them. Peer pressure is just a buzzword, it does not accurately describe what goes on in reality. Go ask the stoners at your school (if you go to a public highschool, there will be plenty around) how many of them ever experienced "Peer Pressure" to smoke pot. See for yourself the reality of the situation. Pfft nobody does it because they want to "know what it's like". That's utter rubbish, you might as well eat glass "to see if it tastes nice". They either do it because they think it's cool, or they were pressured into doing so by friends or family. We're moving away here, so i'll say it plain and simple. SMOKING POT WILL DO YOU NO GOOD I did. And i can assure you I have never had problems with peer pressure. I found it boring by the way.
  12. You can find all kinds of deadly things in nature. Just because something is natural does not mean its safe. This is even true of chemicals found in the human body. Anyway, creatine is safe and is in quite a few of my favorite energy drinks. My favorite is Sobe Courage. Sorry, what I mean to say was that it is found naturally and does not appear to have any detrimental affects.
  13. I can't read. :P #-o No worries. :P
  14. I think the word you're looking for is metaphysical. If you are serious about submitting the argument that "existence" comes down to our perception then I'll respond. If existence is nothing more than our perception of it, does existence change for someone who cannot see? Is "existence" actually different for a blind man, because his perception is different, or is existence an absolute and he only perceives it differently? I believe strongly that existence is absolute. Therefore, God either exists or he does not. Humans thinking about him, or perceiving him, does not force Him into existence. Writing a book about God did not create Him (if He exists); He existed first, and then someone wrote a book about Him OR He did not exist first and someone wrote an fiction story about him. If existence is absolute, His existence would have to precede perceiving Him. :-s . And no, I dont care for argument on this issue, I just thought it is an interesting perspective to take on reality and the nature of existance.
  15. As it is found naturally, it shouldn't be bad for you, but excessive amounts could be. Use it in moderation and you should be fine. (If you choose to take this information you wave any legal liabilities I might me liable for. :uhh:  :P )
  16. As with any substance, some people will choose to use marijuana responsibly and some people will abuse it. The substance should be judged upon it's effects on people, not how people decide to use it. Marijuana is safe. He said he smokes it almost everyday, that's borderline chronic use if not chronic use. From my friends experiences, that kind of use isn't harmless as you suggest. Of course, in moderation, (as with most things) it can be more or less harmless.
  17. Irrelevant. Actully it makes perfect sence. If humans never wrote the Bible, people wouldn't believe in God. People just dont believe in a God then use a book to support it, the read the book first and then believe in God. Er, God would have to precede the Bible. In order for the Bible to be written, someone would have to have initially believed in him. Perhaps he means in terms of perception breeds existance. If we never knew a god existed, or we never percieved that he did/does, then he wouldn't exist. It's a metaphysical argument I subscibe to, but you may think that things exist irrespective of our perception of them. Well seeing as we created the definition for existance and the reality in which we exist, existance comes down to what we percieve, in a very basic sense. Anyway perhaps you don't think the same way. No big deal. :P
  18. You aren't everyone, mate. I know people who have experienced downsides, bigtime.
  19. A google search as a reference? You know it's odd how users are the ones who constantly say 'it can cure cancer' and 'it can never harm you.' I'd rather die from cancer than take my chances and become a chronic user; i've seen what it can do to people.
  20. Ever heard of medicinal marijuana? Anyway just thought I'd say how back in school I had this mate (well a small group of them [the "stoners", if you will]) who became a pretty chronic user and basically ended up with an obvious memory deficiency and a lack of motivation. Case in point: don't become a chronic user, it can make you an addict and is the major instance when you become addicted to marijuana. Chronic users are the only users who should be called "stoners" because they are the ones who show obvious detremental affects from the drug.
  21. Your teacher wasn't quite correct at all :P Out of a 10 litre bucket, about 300-400ml would be drinkable, so that's quite a handful of teaspoons. 22. So people who drink coffee are "fing morons"? I guess I'm an "fing moron" too. Caffeine, various pain killers, muscle relaxants, antibiotics... :ohnoes:
  23. How do China, Cuba and North Korea still survive, with a lower crime rate than anywhere in the world? How did the Soviet Union and the French Republic survive without an official religion? (Communist nations even prohibit religion) There are underground religious organizations in all of those nations. Doesn't mean anything, just stating that religion was there. And as for lower crime rates, I think the fear that the government can kill you and think nothing of it would be a slight deterrent to crime. Not to mention that whole brainwashed militaristic thing Kim-jung-is-ill (no idea how to spell  ) has going in North Korea. :ohnoes:
  24. Too bad that's impossible. I've heard somewhere you actually could look into a black hole (assuming you wouldn't rediculously deformed or killed) and come out to tell the tale if you had a rope tied around you. Total grabage? Not sure. Maybee.
  25. Ignorance does not equal racism, as racisms suggests some sort of hate (brought on by the precursor of fear, but that's another issue). In my opinion, it is the mixture of ignorance and intolerance that breeds racism. Perhaps you could explain to your friend that just because people may not be totally aware of his culture, dosen't mean that they won't tolerate or accept him.
