  1. Alone, unloved, the story of his life. As he walked into his room one last time, never to emerge, he heard music in the distance calling for him. He was found in his room, with a knife in his hand, cuts in his wrists, alone, as the agony of life drained from his veins. His heart lay silent, never to be heard again; the story of his life. Now he was home, the music calling his name. This is my first attemptat literature guys, so any feedback is welcomed. :? Oh and sorry for the depressing subject matter. #-o
  2. Nicely written, it's very discriptive and clear. I like the subject as well. Just one thing; is it grammatically correct to put a semicolon just before the word 'and'? I'm not sure, sorry if I'm wrong.
  3. I'd say both. Music to me is the instrumetation laying down a feeling and then the lyrics converying that to the audience through a message. I do like a good instrumental, however. 'ashes of the wake' by lamb of god (best instrumental ever in my opinion) and 'there will be no violins when you die' by IKTPQ are two that spring to mind.
  4. Lets hope so. I loathed the whole Jay-Z Linkin Park thing.
  5. If you dig songs about political issues I would definetly reccomend Rage Against the Machine. Thier lyrics are hip-hop and the music is basically rock, but it is amazing. In my opinion, the lyricists lyrics are the best and most well 'rapped' I have ever heard.
  6. 'Safing' is a [developmentally delayed]s s excuse for you not keeling over to die and kindly donate them your items. The combat system makes it much too easy to escape but coming up with the idea that 'safing' is bad is just a pathetic scam to try and guilt trip you into handing over your items.
  7. I agree there. I think those that commit crimes such as tax evasion and other non violent crimes should be made to repay thier debt twice over; either monitarily or with community service. Imagine the deterrant of being broke and having no social life for the rest of your life because you cheated disabled and elderly people out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. :ohnoes: Let me edit this idea ever so slightly. Those who are the victims should be repayed by the perpatrator twice over, either monitarily or though community service. Anyway, just an idea.
  8. My high school seems to have brainwashed so many kids like that. "I will not drink a drink of anything with alcohol at all ever because I'll die." You can't have a glass of red wine rich in antioxidants? You can't have a beer now and then? You can't have a rum and coke? That's a load. As for weed, it should be legalized, but only in one's home and smoking lounges, and vaporizers should be the preferred mode of smokin' it, since that actually produces only vapor and lowers the risk of lung cancer. I agree, beer is good for you. (in moderation) The whole 'beer gut' thing has been proven false too.
  9. Utility is lame. You can't quantize pleasure, and utility doesn't account for unforeseen circumstances - you've got to pretty much predict the future with every moral choice you make. It also doesn't account for intentions - if you try and murder your brother but somehow you fail and make $20 out of it, hey, that's a good action! What about slavery? Let's say my family of four has one slave. The slave benefits four of us, in many different ways. He is but one slave, and is being inconvenienced but one way! Utility is being reached here my friend, slavery must be right!? You don't need to be a mindless robot while using utilitarian ethics. Just because you want to achieve utility dosen't mean you can take away common sense. If you make $20 with an attempt to kill someone, you have to weigh up before hand - what is best? The death of someone or gaining $20? But if the outcome of $20 is not expected, you must weigh up what is best? One alive and one dead or two alive? As for the slave example, what is best? Four free people and one slave or five free people? You needn't complicate it.
  10. I remember the day pretty well, come to think of it. I was in grade 7 and I woke up to go to school. After I came out to the lounge room after having a shower, etc, my brother explianed that one plane had hit a building in new york. Minutes later I saw a replay on the TV and was shocked to say the least. Then we saw the second plane hit, which made more feelings arise. So then I went off to school and all my frinds were like 'did you see it?' etc. We had this teacher who liked to talk about off topic things alot so we basically rejected lesson plans and talked about it. When I got home, I remember the extensive coverage; so much so that I have never seen anything covered in the media as much still to this day.
  11. Really? I'm extremely curious as to how. Just as an example, in North Carolina, the average execution costs $2.16 million dollars, as opposed to a fraction of that by keeping a prisoner in a prison. They don't just chop off their heads with a guillotine. California also spends more money on capital punishment than on keeping prisoners (annually). The cost comes from the extensive trial process to make certain they aren't going to kill an innocent person. I think.
  12. The government knows best? Yeah. Hmm. No. Not even the government of Australia knows best at the moment (in my opinion). In my honest opinion, no democratic government anywhere in the world knows both the best thing to do and how to do it quickly without putting politics and media into it, which kind of makes me quite annoyed. I hate politics. Sorry. I dont mind governments or laws, although we should question them daily for the betterment of the system, but I just can not stand polotics. Or the smug faces of poloticians in the media. Rant over. :XD:
  13. Useless in that they are no different than you. So I guess hypocritical would have been a better term to use. You have a belief that tolerance is good - they have a belief that their religion is good. You are intolerant to those that don't subscribe to your belief, just like those people you mention are intolerant to those that don't subscribe to their belief. No difference. There is a difference, toleration is good however religions that can't see this don't deserve toleration. Yes, I am being intolerant to intolerant religions. Whats the problem? Toleration leads to utility so you probably wouldn't have this point of view if your not a utilitarian. Utilitarian ethics FTW  :P And I agree with your basic principal here Satenza; tolerate the tolerant and be less tolerant of the intolerant. The point of this is to maximise tolerance (by gently remindig the intolerant that they aren't tolerant enough) which leads to less conflict in religous and other issues. Now, obviously, you may say 'stop, hold on there buddy, isn't being intolerant of intolerance hypocritical?' Well if you apply the literal definition of hypocricy, yes it is, but the ethic I stated above is designed to help tolerance on the whole and hence the utilitarian standpoint. I hope you can get your head around all the 'tolerant's. :? :P
  14. Sounds cool man, best of luck. Try and write some originals as well. Getting a record deal isn't all about what you can play, it's what you can write (assuming your not going down the whole superficial 'i'll write your songs for you' pop culture).
  15. People are pretty solid on thier beleifs here mate, you'll learn soon enough to show a bit of empathy for how people feel. In other words, if you just keep going like you were in my evolution topic, people aren't going to like you that much.
  16. I beg to differ. The first time I did it, I barely even felt the effects. It was the second time that screwed me up the most, as was the same for a few of my friends. I beg to differ as well, unless you have mental problems or something. I've done it around 5 times total and each time was boring to say the least, but thats just my experience with it. When I said "screwed me up the most", I didn't mean to the point where I was lying paraletic or something like that. I merely meant that it was when it had the strongest effect on me. Generally, it just relaxes me a bit, nothing major. Sorry man, I can see that what I wrote didn't come across clearly. When I said 'I beg to differ as well' I was agreeing with your stance on the statement 'it really screws you up the first time.'

  18. Ohk, sorry, I wasn't aware of that.
  19. I wonder whether people who don't think a building could fall from fire damage took into account that the WTC towers 1 and 2 were hit by commercial airliners... Don't you think that flying such a massive object into a building would take out a few load bearing girders?
  20. Learn to read, [developmentally delayed]. He said he has a family member in a mental institution as a result of weed. That's experience. Sorry to be a nazi and all, but likewise, learn to read. He said firsthand experience, suggesting having tried it personally.
  21. Oh, I don't know, maybe it's because jails cost MONEY!! Of course they do, but I was merely making the point that it is kind of evil to kill people because they take up space in a jail cell. If someone killed someone very close to you, would you want that person locked up and living, or dead? Thats beside the point I was making. I would rather they rot in a jail cell for life, but thats just my opinion.

  23. Sorry for the double post, but I can't help myself. Where do you come from telling us what we are? Not everyone who thinks marijuana isn't as bad as they say is a "stoner." I smoke casually. I don't do it every week or anything like that. You have never tried it, therefore, your opinion is extremely bias. You need to experience something first hand before you can judge people on it. In my experience, you are one of few. All the people I know who do it basically see it as a need and hence they are dependant on it. And just to clear things up in advance, I've tried it before.
  24. Coachella can hold around 200 000 people I've heard? I heard Coldplay barely sold 70% of the seats when they played there. I still wouldn't be surprised if Rage fill it up. I still get chills down my spine when I hear Zack's rhymes and Tom's riffs.
  25. Broken - Pantera. \m/
