Changing The World
Greed means people live in rediculosly lavish houses with many cars, boats and in some cases helecopters and planes while children in africa, india, cambodia and other places around the world starve. That just dosen't sit right with me.

Changing The World
Why is the world in such a shambles at the moment? one word; greed. People always want more and are never satisfied. More money More power More knowlege (and the subsequent debate about the origins of existance) More control More democracy More capitalism More freedom (the search for freedom can be flawed. Try too hard and you end up killing people for your own gain) As Bob Marley once said - Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, None but ourselves can free our minds. In other words, be content with what you have and you wont end up as another greedy CEO of X-company and a subsequent cancer on the world.

Little known facts about you
I play the guitar and write music (mostly heavy metal/alternative prog rock). I love cricket and can sit on my @ss for the whole day watching i (although a few of you would know this). I like iced coffee and don't care for regular coffee. I have a dog called genevieve, she is a minature poodle. I have a very broad range of music, from Slipknot, Lamb of God and Pantera, right the way down to some classical, jazz and artists like Gomez, The John Butler Trio and Jeff Buckley.

Back to the beginning
Well written, and I understand where you are coming from with the problem with entropy. The disorder eventually subsides to nothing, according the the 2nd law of thermodynamics, correct? (i'm not overly familiar with it) So I suppose the argument that something must have created everything becomes valid. But then, one could ask 'what created the creator.' And there you have another cyclical, paradoxical argument. Perhaps the law of thermodynamics is solid 100% of the time, or perhaps there is an exotic complex of energy transfer in the form of a 'big bang' ending in a 'big crunch' etc that we can't fully comprehend with current knowlege. Either way, science can change and is accountable for what it states, where as religion is not. And as for evolution being 'just a theory,' have a look at my topic 'evolution.' and the site provided. Take from it what you will, and believe what you want, it's up to you.

Eeps, a ghost!
I don't know about being exploited, they are just stories. But if it's the likes of John Edwards you are talking about, then yes, people (due to thier inherent stupidity) are likely to put all of thier faith and trust in people like him.

Haha, I went to the cricket for my 18th. :P But yeah, what you got there sounds good.- The Belief-o--matic
May I suggest the philosophical theory where only the self exists? I can't remember the name for it, something sol, or something as in solo. And it's bother me too, does anyone know it's name? I know it at leasts starts with an 'S'. Satanism, I believe. Satanism isn't all about the self though, I believe they teach about respect for others proportional to how much they show you. Dont take my word for it, I haven't read up on satanism in a while.- The Belief-o--matic
But it's not a stereotype for us. :P- The Belief-o--matic
You are just in denial. You and all other Australians would one day be enslaved. You know there is a point were it starts to get lame. Try not to get in over your head, or at least try not to say it like you are a psychopathic zealot. Just a tip. umm by the pure definition I am a psychopathic zealot. (Edit: But the above is unrelated to my faith) And what faith defines it's followers as psychopathic zealots?- Should AUS and NZ remove the Union Jack from their flag?
True; but it only takes one person to tarnish it forever. Well; for a long time. There have definately been some good ones, but yet it only takes one to stuff things up.- Should AUS and NZ remove the Union Jack from their flag?
I must say I totally agree. Iv'e kind of hated the title of 'president' ever since a certain someone became the president of the U.S.- The Belief-o--matic

I know it at leasts starts with an 'S'. I believe that everyone else also exists, but they are just worshipers destined to worship me. Deep down you all know I speak the truth. Darn, I would have believed you if you weren't a New Zealander. :P- Should AUS and NZ remove the Union Jack from their flag?
I would hate a presidential head of state (whats the word for it? can't remember) as I dislike the current phase of 'americanisation' in general.- Should AUS and NZ remove the Union Jack from their flag?
Definately keep it. It shows clearly where we come from and a crucial part of our origins as a nation. Besides, it's kind of comforting to know we have such a strong tie with the 'motherland' yet we still nail them at cricket. I like the way it looks anyway and we are still part of the commonwealth so it's not like we can say 'sorry chaps, we thought we'd ditch your union jack.'- How can we rid the world of terrorism?
Don't worry, i'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. We don't have to argue about it if you don't want.- Whats Your Philosophy
I suppose after reading a bit about existentialism, I am an existentialist.- How can we rid the world of terrorism?
Do you understand that you are kind of mocking the whole population of christians across the world? You are using your religion as a pass into any possible afterlife, as a back-up, just in case. You don't actually believe it from what i'm reading here which comes across as incredibly shallow. And as for your rant above on evolution, here are some facts for you: yes, there is proof, and yes it is logical. Please, try to actually do some research before posting false information. I am not using it as a back-up, I believe in God, but IF I were wrong and evolution did happen then nothing happens to me other then that I will eventually die. In my honest opinion it is not logical. Who says my information is false? You're just bias to evolution since that is the only thing you have ever been thought. I rid myself of this thread, I will not read anymore of these posts since I am not the one who should be debating. I'm hardly biased, I spent 6 years of my life at a Lutheran school. I'm not debating against religion, i'm merely arguing for evolution, which I can hardly see as not being logical. The pure basis of it is that organisms have genetic mutations (this occurs naturally, and is not disputed) which can either benefit of harm the organism (again, this is not disputed). Then, the fittest of the species will have the greater chance of reproducing while the weaker ones will die off or hae a lessened chance of reproducing (I can hardly see why anyone could dispute this). Finally, the beneficial genetic mutation is carried down to the offspring. There you have it, evolution in a nutshell. We have so many diverse species simply because the environments on this planet are many and diverse. It's pure simplicity. I fail to see how this isn't logical to anyone, although we are all entitled to believe what we want. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This from a site Eelspremiers provided. It's kind of annoying how you go on about how evolution is a theory and requires evidence, but then you give a site with 'evidence' such as this. I wasn't convinced with generally the whole of the 2 sites you provided. There are a lot of misconceptions out there about evolution, some of which came to mind while going through the information on your sites. there's also a lot of bias out there because (as some zealots think) if evolution is true, then thier whole belief system is shattered. This is not the case for science. If a theory is incorrect, we adjust, we are accountable, we move on to bigger and better things.- Whats Your Philosophy
I think my eyes are bleeding. :uhh:- What are you listening to right now!?
Enjoy the Silence - Lacuna Coil- Whats Your Philosophy
Yeah, anthropological pessimism. The belief that humans are by nature evil beings. But not moronic or irresponsible :P Well, I would say i am a beleiver that human nature is not 'good' in a way. Hobbes' 'Search For Felicity' is what i beleive to be part of human nature. Which basically means humans are never satisfied and are always looking for more. Which is not a bad thing, if we go about getting more in a good way. Like some of us do, but many do not. This can range from wanting a new television to wanting complete power of a country and the extermination of all Jews. It spans depending to the character we are i guess. So I suppose you could say being content with life is a rarity. Everyone just wants more. - Planning my 18th birthday party (help me!)
