  1. While exploring through the wilderness tonight I stumbled upon a chest located at the end of the lava maze. Curiosity struck me, and I attempted to open it. Unfortunately, a little message came up and informed me "the chest is locked." Here is the picture if you still don't know what I'm talking about: Does anyone know which key opens this chest? Where do you get the key? What lies inside the chest?
  2. Thanks for the compliment. :) I do, though, have some individuals who think some stages should be changed, but generally all runescape players follow through all nine stages. I've heard a couple people claiming to be stuck on stage 6. Usually this is the longest, if not one of the longest stages in a player's life. It's a big step from 5-6, so the player really has to settle in with the maturity before he/she can start thinking about leading something.
  3. Good point, I know I claimed to be one of them and that's because the description is right, besides the denial. z0mG!1 We need a new stage! We need a stage ten: "10. Walking into a gamestop and seeing another mmorpg. Go back to stage one, but do not collect $200." I didn't include a stage 10 because the aftermath of totally quitting runescape varies for alot of people. Most people do, though, find a new game to get interested in. I know a few former runescape players who found WoW to be alot better.
  4. I'd say a good 5-6% of RS players actually go through this stage  That's about right. :P Unfortunately if the player does not mature the community will not give fully give him the respect he deserves. I see alot of players on RSOF who are just staying put in the low stages. I'm glad to see everyone is enjoying my article. I might add some more information to the stages soon, I see a couple suggestions on this topic already.
  5. Sometimes you can go back to stages, skip them, and even be in two stages at once. Though you should generally be flowing from 1 to 9. :?
  6. A title is like a first impression, you don't want to mess it up. "Parties" does not have a "y" in it. Please fix it. I have had some small drop parties in the past, and I've always found it funny to watch 20 people run toward the same item. Totally worth giving away 300k each time. I also did them on f2p servers so everyone wasn't so demanding.
  7. Abyss pking have you ever... 1. Yelled at an rc pker where you were runecrafting, but then tried to kill an rcer at another time? [ I usually engage in friendly conversation, and I just leave them alone, actually ] 2. Come back to attack the pker who attacked you, but when someone you attacked came back for you, you called him a noob? [ no... Normal Pking/death matches have you ever... 1. complained about protect prayers, but then did them yourself when you were losing? [ Yes XD ] 2. complained about teleporting/tagging/pjing, but did them yourself at some time before/after the incident? [ I'm not a pker, I don't really get into that stuff anyway ] 3. complained about people safing/double eating, but you do it too when given the chance to live?[ see above answer ] Basic Runescape Principles have you ever... 1. Tell people that you would return items you find in a death pile if you saw the person die, but when the time came, you kept them?[ Tbh I did return someone's death pile once, and another time I didn't because he was a jerk ] Or if the above never happened, were you lying when you said you'd return them?[ ] 2. Do you complain about autoers and say they need to go, but you buy supplies from them anyway because it's cheaper and faster? [ Yes  ] 3. yelled and reported a scammer, but got curious to see if it'd work? [ And risk my account? NO! ] Lying have you ever... 1. Told someone your friends list was full when it really wasn't? [ No ] 2. Told someone you were signing off, but you really put private on "off" and kept playing? [ Many, many times ] 3. Lied about your gender to get free items[ no... ] (please say no...) Friends these questions are to be answered if it was a very close friend asking you for the following, or you helping a friend have you ever... 1. Been asked by a friend to Pilejump a deathmatch if he lost, which he did, and you did, even though you claimed to be against it.[ Never been in that situation ] 2. Asked to borrow a friend's expensive item to try on, but secretly you felt like stealing it?[ My policy is to never borrow someone's items, I don't want to make my friends nervous ] If yes, did you actually take it?[ There was one point, though, when my friend traded his crystal bow for my whip; we both returned them though ] (anything counts, from 10 gp to a party hat) 3. Killed a boss monster (Kq, KBD, etc) with a friend and lied about the drop so you could get all the money?[ Not really into boss killing, and no I probably wouldn't unless it was a visage drop ] 4. Thought about killing a friend in wild to get his items?[ That's just mean... ] 5. removed a friend in game by telling him/her you'd "be back later"[ Yes, the really annoying ones ]
  8. A few months ago on these forums I made a topic on the general boards that applied Erik Erikson's theory of personality development. I believed that just like Erikson had suggested, there are several stages in a runescape player's life. Although this article will be some what modified from it's original version, it still goes over the same subject. Erikson, using bits and pieces of Frued's theory, had come up with eight stages in a person's life. From stage one to stage eight, it described how a person's personality developed(i.e. gaining trust in others and finally fear of one's own death). Let me first make it clear that some players, with my first version of these stages found some parts to be offensive. Please I am not trying to insult anyone with this article; some players have found they skip over a stage and some have found they don't necessarily start on stage one. It's almost always different for everyone. 1) Curiosity In the first stage of a runescape player's life he is obviously fresh off tutorial island. The new player is curious, and that sparks a sense of adventure. The whole world is waiting for him, and it's pretty big. Memorizing the map has not even come to mind, the player just wants to explore. Skills are just something that he uses, he doesn't necessarily train them. Other players are just other players to him, he does not consider they are real people with real feelings. 2) Environment interaction Interacting with the environment would be the second stage. From learning to cut a tree, burn the log, and catch a fish, he quickly master the basics of interacting with the environment. Skills are still something to work out for him, some may be confusing to him and he may not even know how to train them. 3) Player interaction All the adventuring soon comes to an end, and the new player searches for something more exciting to do. Perhaps he realizes other players are real people, and not programmed NPCs. In this stage, he might make some great friends and use, if not already, the private messaging system. Also during his observation of the players, he finds some of them are rule-breaking players who sometimes get away with their wrong-doings. With this he becomes curious. He does not realize that runescape is actually a complex game with a complex community- he just views it as any old game where you can "screw around." Perhaps at this time he will try to scam other players- and in this he will receive a warning from jagex, and at that point he stops. His observations continue as he moves forward into the fourth stage. 4) Urge to be the best As he takes a look at his skills, he notices they are inferior compared to other players he has seen. Now comes the strive for superiority- he MUST be the best player in the game. Now perhaps comes serious training of skills; running back and worth over and over to the mining fields, killing goblins and burying bones. Now that the player has developed friends, he feels the need to be better than them. As the player reaches out to more places he realizes there are guilds and quests- and so many other things to compete with other players. 5) Community interaction As he meets new people he realizes runescape has a complex community- perhaps he visits the forums. As all humans, he wants to be heard as a voice in the community. He feels lost as if he is being pushed back- and he wants to make himself noticed. Now comes the time when his skills could be low to medium- and he wants to join a clan or a fansite, or a forum. 6) Maturity Then perhaps comes the end of the "newbie" stages. He learns that if he wants to survive in the community he must use proper grammar, spelling, and have excellent sentence structure. Not only that, the player starts acting more mature. Other players respect him more, and may recognize him from a fansite. He is more determined now, more determined to be the best. That means longer and harder goals, reaching for the higher levels. The urge to let his total level and his bank value grow arises. 7) Climbing ranks To be sure his social status grows, the player attempts to climb ranks in the community. He wishes to be a leader of an important group perhaps, a moderator of a popular forum. With this he develops the skills to take on a leader title- through sometimes failure and trying it out a different way. 8) Denial The feeling of conquering the game arises- the player suddenly feels as if he has visited every location in runescape. Being desperate, denying the fact that he is finally getting bored of runescape, he searches for anything in runescape he hasn't tried out yet. It could be his first round of barrows- or maybe he has never tried the wilderness course. Then these excitements grow to bore, and the player waits impatiently for an update- so maybe runescape will be exciting again. 9) Retirement Finally the amount of time played ingame daily drops- and the player finds himself bored with runescape. The community though- is an everlasting forum of change. The player may now spend a lot more time helping the community- rather than training his own character ingame. With his position as a leader, he can focus more on what he is leading. Some though, quit this job as leader just to take a break. And then soon the interest in the community will slowly fade- and he will post less and less often on forums. There are my nine stages. If you wish to add you're own I would be glad to hear them. Please state the title and your explanation. I'd say I'm on stage seven right now. The urge to lead something aroused a couple months ago, and now I am a proud leader of CTET- learning how to become a successful leader. Some of my friends have found it fun to see which stage they are on, try to see which one you fall under yourself and explain.
  9. You could use my behavioral stages of runescape players, most people when they first play this game view it only as "some other game"- and not what it truly is- a large, complex community. They have nothing to lose, because they literally just joined, and therefore try to scam other players for easy money- because perhaps they cannot find a good way to get money. As for the higher level scammers, I think they're either quitting runescape, and as a last stand they just scam like crazy and get banned, or they're just idiots.
  10. Wow this is an old thread... I guess someone wanted to bump it.
  11. My rules when someone dies are if the person was nice to me, or just simply wasn't a jerk, I would track them down and return every single item. If the person is a jerk, I keep all his stuff and pm him with something like "I'll keep your stuff just to teach you a lesson, stop being a jerk." There was something that happened like this once actually in both situations. Once I was traning at the ape atoll course, with several other monkeys. One person asked "agility lvls?", and I replied "83." Well then he really just started calling me a no lifing noob, and many other negative comments. Eventually he teleported away for someone I didn't know. And eventually I ran out of energy potions, and I teleported back to edgeville, restocked, teleported back to ape atoll, went down the stairs, and lo-and-behold, there he is training on the ape guards with protect from melee on. He recognized me too, and started of course just critising my agility level. Then the next thing I know his prayer goes off and he dies in two seconds! Apparently he was too busy talking to me to pray. I was going to pm him, but his private chat was off. I had a nice laugh that day as I racked up a full red d hide set and a dragon scimitar. There was another time when I met a player mod at the other worldly being in zanaris. He was a very nice person, we shared some conversations together about recipe for disaster and all that. I noticed he kept his health very low even though the beings weren't hitting that hard and I kept on reminding him to heal. Well eventually he died when a being hit a 5 on him. I can't remember the exact equipment, but I knew he was wearing full saradomin and a slayer mask. I met him in lumbridge and returned his stuff. Oh by the way he was oddly skulled.

Yes, it's got a bad reputation to be appealing for the younger(way younger) audience. I really don't know how your friend can possibly think adventure quest is better than runescape. Obviously he won't get convinced by just talking to him, you need to actually show him the vast number of things in runescape you can do. And what is this talk that you can't see your character? Of course you can! Infact, unlike adventure quest, you can rotate the camera and see every bit of your character in three dimensions!
  14. This is one thing I hate. You may say "it's only pixels" but when you lose a phat while merchanting, you also probably lose the time needed to get the money for merchanting it - which can be a lot. Also, I could say that I could lend all my IRL money to a stranger and then he'd ran off - but who cares, it's only a few pieces of paper and metal. I also absolutely hate people who say they are "just pixels", and Fairness just gave a great answer. It's not just the pixels, it's the possibly hundreds of hours of rcing you devote to get that santa, or perhaps those hundreds of hours barrowing trying to get that guthan's spear.
  15. He is back from leave, and we are currently in communication with admin regarding the trouble with the Clans in the Forums and CTET. For now admin have asked us not to post next weekends event untill a few things have been sorted out. That is all we know at this time, so please just be patient. Yes, Tallest will be posting a topic soon on these boards that will clear up the whole thing. But for now do not post any events public.
  16. Yes, and it's not just them. I mean the entire dispute, there are several more involved.
  17. Wisp, please do not post this event public. We have decided to put a hold on all CTET events until this whole clan dispute is settled out. I'm sure you were looking foward to hosting it this Sunday, but that might not happen now. So once again please do not post this public, this event is on hold.

Ok first off I want to apologize for the very late response, I've been on a two and a half week vacation and just got back yesterday. I haven't been ignoring you, don't worry. :P Actually ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Åbuetford̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

  23. If you don't know, bankspace actually costs jagex money, it's something like memory storage or something, but it does cost them. Really I don't feel these constant f2p/p2p arguements get anywhere, both sides have one main argument and really nothing else. What's the real problem here? These type of threads, don't make these, their encouraging a pointless argument that's been going on for years. "F2p don't deserve updates because they don't pay, f2p should just get members if they're complaining so much" are some I've seen. F2p and p2p need to stop disrepecting eachother and move along. There is no shame in being f2p.
  24. Quests are unique because they provide a challenge or just something different from your boring, average skill training. They offer awesome storylines, some history about Gleinor, and some nice rewards at the end. Rewards could include massive chunks of experience(tons of combat exp in monkey madness), new teleports(thank you ectophial!), and new weapons(anchor).
  25. Think about it, anyone can have any amount of experience in any skill from 1-200,000,000. This is how the highscores are ranked, by experience in the skill, not the actual level. If jagex were to introduce the questpoints to the highscores it would be very confusing because there are only around 240qp, and so there would only be 240 ranks, with maybe about 1,000 or so people per rank.
