Alpha Centauri is not the closet star to earth, the Sun is the closes. Alpha Centauri is a star system made up of three stars so it is not even a Star. The stars in the system are called Alpha Centauri A, Alpha Centauri B and the third star is called Proxima Centauri. Out of the three stars the closest to our sun is Proxima Centauri.
