If you say H/c x2 in game you will be muted. (Taken from Reddit)
Are ya serious Absolutely. Based on this topic, you guys (not you necessarily, but overall) don't like him very much. Still, he does what he wants, he plays the game his way, and as far as I know, he doesn't scam anyone, so he still gets an enjoyable experience out of it. Runescape has the great ability, that I don't find in other MMORPGs to actually let you do what the hell you want, and I think Vann takes that in stride. So if what he's doing embodies the spirit of the game, why are there Jagex-created discussion topics about curbing it on the RSOF, and why is Jagex actively trying to work against it through game updates, such as dice bag removal or silent muting? Not to mention he admitted to breaking multiple rules including RWT.. This has nothing to do with my point. This has everything to do with your point. How can you argue someone is playing the game in a manner that is befitting and supportive of the integrity and spirit of the game when the same player has used those means to fund activities that are almost 100% regarded as entirely destructive to the game (RWT), and have been from the beginning against the rules. The player clearly has no active interest in the game or the spirit of the game, only the interest of his own self-gain and what benefits him the most - so much to an extent that he has compromised the spirit of the game only to benefit himself and then justify it with "I got what I want, then I stopped so it's okay!" You have got to be kidding me if you believe that player is the spirit of the game, this game wouldn't exist if we all had his attitude. I understand the point you were making, I was merely remarking that it wasn't on the same map I was looking at. Second, I do not take the rules into effect when thinking about what the spirit of the game means, this was my counter point. Simply because the U.S. outlawed alcohol, didn't change the spirit of the U.S., the spirit of the U.S. still wanted alcohol, whether or not it is illegal. This isn't the best analogy, as citizens can vote to change laws, and players cannot; nor is the term 'spirit' used in the same sense. Just because you place a bird in the cage, doesn't mean it doesn't want to fly free. It may willfully stay in the house, and in turn stay in its cage because it knows it can be provided food social comfort, but it still wants to break free and fly. I am not saying that gambling with flower seeds is the spirit of the game. I am not saying that rule breaking is the spirit of the game. You're being too literal, well, I assume you're being too literal. Constrictor is partly right in that I'm saying the spirit of the game is what you make it. Now that I read Constrictor's post that reminded me I had a very similar argument on his topic as well. The spirit of Runescape isn't a tangible thing, sometimes you cannot see the spirit, but instead you can only see the anti-spirit, and from that you have to deduce where the spirit is. I don't like saying spirit so much, it makes me sound like a hippie. Brief example: 6/6/06, Durial321 changed the game a lot for that time period. How did Runescape react? I'm sure if you think about it (if you were around back then, I don't know your start date) there were two very different reactions to the "massacre." Now look at the next game changing event, and the next, and the next, (or going and look later than Durial, this is a starting point for some), do you see a pattern emerging? It's really not that hard to decipher, honestly. I am also aware that I stand at odds with some in the Tip.It community on this matter, so its perfectly possible we won't see eye-to-eye. I think Tip.It has the tendency to be entirely too legalistic in some cases; while this is usually for the better of the community, I do not think it applies in this case.

Sounds like a solid majority of the democratically elected governments in the world, I don't see any difference. Apart from, you know, Jagex owning the game. Ha. Hahahahaha. 8/10 for making me reply I'm stating that there are major logical inconcistencies, hopefully you understood that. o also ty also check out my BoB & stats l0l Are ya serious Absolutely. Jagex created topics, not player created topics. I think its been known for a long time that Jagex doesn't do a very good job in keeping in touch with their player base. Jagex may be working on making the Jagex-player relations slightly better than the opposing tribes in the Rwandan genocide, they're still far from many other MMORPG companies' public relations.

How does it feel knowing you are helping ruin the game? I wish you and all your ilk were permabanned instead. The odds are always in your favor, and you are making money from kids who cannot control themselves or have an addiction. Ok, so JAGEX makes all of this talk about making the game more adult-oriented. Switchable censor, quests made for people who can't devote 7 hours to the game a day, etc. (Mainly the censor, and Jagex's explicit wish to cater more to the adult people). Then they go and say "oh hey, you can't excercise personal responsibility on your own account! Its for your own good!" Also, don't talk crap about Vann, its people like him who are the spirit of the game. Lastly, I guess if Jagex really wants to fix this moral morass, if anything they could make some type of institutionalized 'mini game' BUT, the emphasis is that the players would still be the 'hosts.' The ones gambling would deposit their money into a machine that the host 'owns,' the host could then select varying options, much like Staking "h/c, etc." perhaps even throw in some coupons, like deposit %15 of the money, and get 16% back if won (extra money would be taken directly from Host's bank account/gold pouch.) The game itself would then use flower seeds or WHATEVER (It would have to be a fairly open ended system) and then plant them or WHATEVER. Once the system is done it then gives the rewards accordingly. Based on the relatively complex systems Jagex has created in the past, this shouldn't be *too* difficult. Gambling doesn't have to go away in any way, shape or form, but the scamming aspect does.

A dying skill?
Thats without even mentioning the fact that its WALLOFTEXT. Or even mentioning the fact that I TYPEDITONMYPHONE. @Sy_Accursed, In my original post I stated that no skill is a novelty skill, and I extrapolated upon that in my follow up post. I said that to imply one skill is worth more than another, is to imply that the value of each skill can be measured, and weighed against each other. I argued that each skill is equally useful, because the usefulness of a skill is not something that can be quantified. Because a skill's usefulness/value comes not from the environment, but from the person actually training the skill at that point and time. I said that while yes, some skills do have a sort of extrinsic worth, because the commodities produced from said skill can be sold, or used for personal advancement; this alone cannot define the usefulness of a skill. In re-reading my post, I do see that it is a bit all over the place, this is due to my phone being not the most ideal medium for posting on forums. It is absolutely possible that we are arguing completely different things, it wouldn't be the first time two people were fighting eye to eye, only to realize they were looking in the opposite direction. Allow me to clarify. My original post, stated that all skills are a novelty, and by that very factor, none of them are novelties. I used 'real world examples' of why this was. I said that for a tangible object to be a novelty, it is generally assumed that it has little to no purpose to further one's goal/objective/job/relationship/education, etc. I stated that due to the environmental factors placed upon the game by JAGEX, none of those qualifiers can be applied. Why? Because the goal/objective/job/relationship/education/etc in this instance, is to have fun in the game. Since this fundamental rule has been laid down, we cannot use the same rules for determining the novelty of an item, like we can in real life. The game is what you make it, this is my point. The 'waffle of combat,' that you described, was my attempt to compromise with you that perhaps both of our points could be equally valid. On one hand, everything you do in the game, in the long run, is motivated by an external force outside of the game, typically the urge to enjoy yourself. Ergo, you cannot garner value of an item, when the scale to measure the value measures neither the intrinsic, nor extrinsic properties of it. That said, on the other hand, one could attempt to say that the main combat skills, as well as the skills that supplement it, are not novelty 'items,' because they are most in demand with the player base. This is narrows the argument down to a matter of opinion, which is to be expected. If you look, you will see that the response in my post vis a vis your post was not so outlandish, I was attempting to make the same point I was making in the beginning. That while yes, one could argue the player base of Construction may be shrinking, in the end, this is a moot point. It does not matter if it is not played by anyone but you. As long as you play it, and you enjoy it, the skill is alive and fighting.

A dying skill?
I would not agree at all that all skills are a novelty, most have a definite use to the overall game. Attack, strength, defence, hp, magic, ranged, summoning and prayer all confer some extra benefits the more you level them through improving combat. Slayer runs quite high up with most slayer monsters offering reasonable profit through drops Fishing and Cooking are necessities of the combat market too - sure YOU might not use them, but if nobody did you wouldnt be buying those fishies you love so much. Etc. About the only ones that lift out massively as having very little boon to being trained at all are Fm, Mining, Smithing, Agility and Construction. Mine and Smith are easily fixable via squashing content down to appropriate levels and adding some new high-end content. The other 3 really need complete overhauls that offer fundamental alterations to what the skill can do to make them have much in the way of practical uses. Yes, but that only applies if you are combat oriented. While yes, there are monsters all throughout runescape, and some of the best 'skilling' spots are located in dangerous areas, the vast majority of the game can be played without any interaction with combat, as we see by the meteoric rise of low level, to no level skillers back in 'the day.' While overall, some skills having a markably higher usage rate among the community on average is undeniable, nothing about those skills make them.... "un novelty" for lack of a better phrase. The player base is more geared toward combat, and thus skills that provide ease of access to it such as Cooking, Herblore, Agility, Fishing and Farming are bound to be just as heavily trained as combat. This however, does not mean that all skills that are not either a) applicable to easing combat, or b) involved directly in combat (such as Summoning) are then considered fruitless. You will find anywhere in the world, people who spend their lives doing things that add no monetary, societal, or heck, any tangible gain whatsoever. They do these things passionaltely and without complaint because they love doing it. The only requirement for a skill to be useful, is for it to be fun to the player, and never is it more true than in the video game industry, that fun is in the eye of beholder. So yes, I will agree with you that it's certainly not a... sought after skill, for much of the populace, and so in the real world, it would be considered a novelty. But JAGEX goes through great lengths to ensure that all players are considered equal, and because this is a closed system, the programming rules put in place by JAGEX developers are used to not only decide the visceral world around you, but the world of the economy as well. Since every player is considered equal, you cannot have a skill that is 'better' than the other, because each skill's value is intrinsically based, and so to others it is a worthless products, but to others it is life itself for the game. We cannot have novelty skills, because there is no way to calculate the 'cut off' point, if you will, of a skill's value, vs for example, so many thousands of items that Jagex dumps on the game every year that no one uses. While typing this, I've realized that one could argue there are no novelty items either, but since then the values to many of the items are inherently tied to the market, the value can be derived from that.

A dying skill?
I love my 99 con (14, 598,042 xp). Looooove my house. It makes it pleasurable to have to teleport there as a hub for anywhere I fricken want in RS. Is it a novelty? Of course. Isn't everything a novelty in its own way? I have like 82 Cook and 76 Dung, I don't know if I'll ever get them higher. I can buy my own food, and I can do well without chaotics. Each skill is a novelty, that's the point of it.Finding enjoyment in the unenjoyable, in the end all you're doing is clicking on a screen for 8 hours a day as your muscles atrophy to nothing but waste.

Need EoC/Combat Tips (Armor, dual wielding, etc.)
Hello, I'm coming back from a looooooooong staycation, and so this whole RS game is foreign too me, basically. What armor should one aspire to use for slayer? I'm going for 99. My outfit currently is BCP/Tassets/Whip/DDef/Fury/Fire cape/dboots I also have an ags, I may sell that. I have about 80m capital for armor, and I'm fine with investing. What are good armor sets for all a round slaying? I know I should aim for a chaotic rapier, but I'm only at 112k dung tokens, and I don't really feel like DGing for two months to get the weapon. What should I look for in an offhand weapon? It seems they all degrade now? Also, on a completely unrelated topic: Have skills become cheaper to level now? Is Herb/Prayer still 200m+? Which is how much it was when I quit. (I quit rougly 1.5? years ago). Thank you, Saru.

Gracias, I've gotten the hang of it pretty well. I just realized why I kind of quit, dear God leveling takes a long time. I'm trying to figure out what is a decent set of armor, right now I have tassets, BCP, whip/ddef and or AGS and fire cape. But I see these people with [bleep]ing outfits hitting some high crap and I'm like >.> I really need a chaotic rapier.

I know, it looks neat. I just reallly..... hate how a lot of the items look now. I also hate how I have my tasset and fury and whip and a whole other of crap in my bank, that are all now worthless. I looked in my GE history though, and the last item I sold was my AGS, which I sold for like, 67m. It's now like what, 6m? I'm so grateful I sold it.
