Guide to meleeing giant rock crabs, solo. (v.1)
Fail_o_holic replied to Fail_o_holic's topic in General Guides
Yes, rockshell is exactly the same as rune (although it doesn't require d slayer). I'm not sure about the prices, although I've seen the plate and legs going for 300-350k (for both). I think the full set is 450k or so. I'll start keeping a drop log for drop percentages. I'd appreciate any drop logs you guys make that I can incorporate into the calculations. You'll get credit, of course. Supermonk, I'll go with you, but you can't be my friend. :P -
Guide to meleeing giant rock crabs, solo. (v.1)
Fail_o_holic replied to Fail_o_holic's topic in General Guides
If you do want to try it I'll go, walk you through trapping them, then switch worlds. I'm trying to get each shell part so I can post pictures, so anyone can ask and I'll bring them with me (the overall coolness of telegroup spells 8-) ), help them get started, then switch worlds and do some crab-bashing myself. -
This guide will be updated when I am not dead tired at midnight... So you wanna melee giant rock crabs eh? Tired of burning runes on them? Want to actually use those monkfish and potions you stocked up on? This guide will show you how. This guide assumes you know where the waterbirth island dungeon is. Why giant rock crabs? - For rockshell parts. Suits have stayed roughly the same price due to low demand. Supply is low as well however. That's where you come in. - For something different to bash up. - The ability to give yourself the same title as any crab medication... Why melee? - You don't go through tons of runes fast. I'd take fishing over runecrafting any day. - You hate range and mage. (I don't, but you might.) - You're a sick, violent person. Acceptance is the first step. REQUIREMENTS - There are no requirements to try, but there are not to fail. You will need: - A friend. They can help or they can tele out after you're in. I prefer paying lower levels for the latter because I get all the drops. Suggested: - Lunar diplomacy and 73 magic. (For telegroup waterbirth.) - Hero's quest. (For glory tele out while on lunars.) - Recipe for disaster. (Dark gloves.) Equipment-wise, this is the best loadout: - Full veracs is essential unless you want to spend 15 minutes killing each crab. - The other equipment can be tweaked, but I prefer this setup. - I have no clue if the ring increases shell part chances. I'm just superstitious. Inventory-wise, you'll want something like this: - I only bring offensive potions only, but defence pots can be used as well. - Monkfish or better. Sharks and potatoes work fine too. - Waterbirth tele(group). I like to provide transportation for my buddy who helps me open the door, then teles. GETTING THERE (ABRIDGED) - Tele you and your buddy/team to waterbirth. - Get to the rockcrab section. - Go to the far end. This is your "kill-zone". THE GOOD PART These things have wicked high defence, hence the veracs. Pot up and start bashing away. But there's a problem... They run into a single combat zone full of other hostile crabs! Now there are 2 dumb solutions, and there is a smart solution. Dumb solution 1 - Weaken every rock crab in the room. Good luck... Dumb Solution 2 - Raise an army to pin all the other crabs... Smart way - Cut off their escape. Here's how: Trap them in this spot. They can't run, they stop hitting you once they start trying to run, and you won't get the dreaded "I'm already under attack!" message because it's multicombat. Having trouble trapping them? Here's how: 1. Provoke a crab. 2. Run to the red dot. (Not right next to the door.) 3. Run to the yellow dot. 4. Wait until the crab is in place. (You will be fighting it from the yellow dot.) 5. Run "across" the crab to where I'm standing and trap it in the corner. 6. Bash until it stops moving. 7. Repeat. Enjoy, and happy crab-crushing. SPECIAL THANKS TO: Shawnorama - My uncle, who took his time to help me open the door several times. Pauloino - His Guide to Obtaining and Creating Dagannoth Armour made me get off my behind and do experimentation with crab killing. Once I get some nice loot I'll post more pics.

Dagannoth Armour (Oct 2006) (AOW Discussion)
Fail_o_holic replied to pauloino's topic in General Guides
Sorry if I'm reviving your post, but I'd just like to add my 2 cents. For the crabs I like my veracs. At the end of the entry tunnel (multicombat) you can stick them against the wall where they can try to run all they want. They'll barely hit through verac's above-runite defence (even if there's 2 attacking you) and you can defeat them quite readily in melee. Praying also works very well because of verac's crazy high prayer bonuses. I can get a pic or two for you if you'd like, or go with people to demonstrate this method. I've become a veracs addict so I'll always be ready. [EDIT]Meh. You've inspired me to write a guide on giant rock crab killing. Then I won't be accused by anyone of stealing your guide. -
Last time I checked, most people who actually can teleblock either consider themselves above abyss pking or think it's not worth the bother. I mean, if I could tb, I'd be tbing abyss pkers, forcing them to fight fair for once. (OH NO! ) Because people who think they're super-cool, tough pkers try to ice rush you then run (or pop on prayer) when you start dds specing them. They're so rarely successful it's a wonder they still do it... Your cat looks so much like my sister's... If you look again, there isn't whining yet about the risk. It's that the pkers are such incompetent cowards, which they are. They always tele before I get their split, you lucky bum. :P

Bored With RS. I need ideas to help me get excited again.
Fail_o_holic replied to Xeith's topic in Help and Advice
Agreed, crazy goals all the way! Mine are all monetary currently, but the money will be made with skills. -
Yep, maples definately. Or coal, then smith steel/cballs and sell those for copious quantities of cash.
-
Barrows gets alot of bloods, plus other loot you can sell and buy more bloods, unless you're selling the bloods. I've been doing it with veracs, all runes are loot. :D Saving the minds for salarin slaying, selling everything else except guthan and dharok parts.
-
I like verac's best, although I've been doing barrows with it and killing giant rock crabs. Although if you're not getting the entire set don't get veracs. The armour itself is only worth the cost if you're praying alot.
-
Those are what I have now, although i may move attack up to 80 with time. I plan to try to max out defence before getting 76 strength. The rune defender sounds good actually. I'll try for that after I've got a couple more mil from barrows.
-
Okay, so here's the story. I like defence. When I play sports, I play defence. When I look at equipment, I prefer a rune kite over an obby shield any day due to it's better defence. I wear barrows armour to fight chickens. When I'm in a generous mood I give low levels armour when they ask for weapons. I am a defence man and I want skills to match. So, my current plan is to, after I've had my fill of barrows, train defence like a crazy loon using slayer assignments. I will use my black mask to compensate for the lack of offense, although I could supplement it with potions as well. Any suggestions, or is it a pretty sound plan? No idea will be overlooked. And I'm not going near pc. After reading all the rants I don't want to have my training ruined by the lower levels, and I'd rather not be associated at all with the higher ones.
-
I prefer d mace over my whip, as they seem to have lower crush defence and the prayer bonus is nice. If you're using food, use monk robes as there's no magic defence penalty, therefore less hits from breath. If your using anti-fires, use initiate so you take less hits on the way in. Take climbing boots, rfd gloves, and preferably a god cape and you're good to go. Amulet wise holy symbol is mediocre. The dragons have wicked high defence, so you'll want all the offensive stuff you can get, unless you are really low on p pots. Happy slaying.

There's a spot where you can melee a monkey archer from the grass so it's the only one that can get you. Near the jail I think.
-
An organisation I'm a part of uses it as part of their uniform. Looks better than rune, and also the leader hasn't done d slayer. :-$ Don't buy rockshell, get a different primary weapon. D hallys are only good if the enemy can't hit you, and even then they're slow. Spend your cash on a d scimmy/whip and rune kite/d []/obby shield/rune defender, unless you like killing every single monster from behind a rock, and very slowly.

I didn't read the whole thread, so this may have been suggested. Whip Noob, noun - 1. The antagonist expresses their frustration over the protagonist/combatant's being able to afford a whip while the antagonist can't, due to their principal income source being begging. 2. Also used to describe anyone who does not have strength as their highest combat skill (,presumably due to excessive whip use). Love this noobtionary, i'm recommending it as reading to anyone who begs to me and calls me a noob. [edited for spelling]

Wow, I've been an idiot. I've been using veracs... No more veracs for me! I'm selling it and buying an awful lot of monk robes! Oh and air staffs. And lobsters. How much are lobsters? Can I use tuna or do they heal too much? Maybe I'll stick with lobsters, they heal 9 right? I'll also switch my primary income source to begging, it requires less work so I can compensate for this new, um... innovative... barrows method. They should make spades wieldable so I can get rid of my staff and save 1500 geepee... EAT SPADE DHAROK!!! MUAHAHAHAHA!!! Oh, you're verac? Sorry... On a serious note, this was hilarious, although I'm still wondering how it belongs in the archive of wisdom. :P

Meleeing Iron\Steel Dragons (Aug2006)(AoW)
Fail_o_holic replied to Headnazgul's topic in General Guides
Haven't been to these since I started slaying more efficiently. Maybe I'll try this setup later. For the uber-minimalists you may want to add the holy wrench as well. For those of you who don't know what it is, do cabin fever. Yes, I agree that it's a waste of space, so I don't use it, but we're talking about minimalists here, not people who are well equipped and stocked with potions. You could kill bronzes easily. Any recommended equipment set would work. The dogs are a pain in the behind though. Just stick to the two westmost dragons so the black demon won't get at you. -
What not to say to a Jagex Mod...

Chop chop, just like my autocutters n00b. *Note that I like the updates alot recently, new quest was fun and the new monsters look wicked. -
The solution to abyss pkers? LINK TO FORUMS IS UP!!!
Fail_o_holic replied to Baemnt13's topic in General Discussion
If you're saying you've never been pked you're either incredibly strong or you don't rc much anyway. On Topic - Don't add me to the lists, but I'll rc on world 99 from now on and attack any pkers I can in the most annoying way possible. I'll 1-item, use prayer, speak 1337, the works if it'll make them leave. And yes, punching them continuously and speaking 1337 has made them leave before. I also wore my nurse hat. :P -
They always tele or run when I try to attack them back... However, I just carry an ectophial and wear dhides. Most of them snare first. gives me time to tele out.

Best Tradable Boots and Gloves that dont require Quests??
Fail_o_holic replied to Dragon_Scyth's topic in Help and Advice
Finish recipe for disaster, get the dark gloves. They are amazing for melee. Something any serious warrior should have. Plus, they cost 130k so you can't say you didn't make an investment. -
Saradomin hood and cape from cwars maybe?
-
Black masks increase your attack and defence by 15%, but only vs the creatures you have assigned. It's extremely helpful for any serious slayer. You are not, however, a serious slayer I'm assuming, so a black mask would not be necessary for you unless you intend to go into slayer alot. Just do assignments and you'll get 55 slayer fairly easily. Only use a cannon if you can afford it. Otherwise it will drain resources like crazy.

Monks are the best xp in the game for fishing, as they fish as fast as lobs and give more xp than sharks. HOWEVER, be aware that monkfish will stunt your cooking, as their cooking xp is not up to par with their fishing xp. It's the reason I can fish sharks but not cook them. Happy fishing.
